Days of Our Lives to go on after Sept 2013 ?

Eileen Davidson taped her last episode with Days on July 16. Her scenes will air through the end of the year and then Kristin will be off the canvass for the foreseeable future.

This is bad news as far as I am concerned.

Many have said DOOL's increase in the ratings is mainly because of Eileen's return, guess we'll see in early 2014 if that was true or not, after she is gone.

Have really enjoyed her back, but between her long schedule of taping on DOOL, and years of the same on Y & R, no doubt she needs a break.

Still don't care at all for Theresa, it hit me though, seems like a reincarnation of Chelsea Brady. She was just like her when she first came on the show.

ED leaving is just mean, mean, mean! I wonder if she was only signed on to do a limited run with the option to renew if she wanted.....or maybe there was some backstage drama going on.......? She certainly left very abruptly, IMHO.

I knew Days was filming out of sequence and doing several episodes (or parts of them) daily, and have a schedule of working three weeks and off one week in an effort to save money, but I was amazed to hear just how far ahead they are. Even though ED just filmed her last scenes, she will be airing into NOVEMBER!

    Good news for fans.

Not sure what the main story will be after she leaves, the JJ and Theresa story is terrible.

I like the actor playing JJ and he's a good troublemaker, but I'm ready for the character to get knocked down a few pegs.

I really want to like Theresa. I like Jen Lilley and I find it a tad enjoyable watching Theresa being so awful to Jennifer but I'm getting bored with her just being obnoxious and awful with everybody and interacting with JJ and Daniel. Her introductory story needs to be about her relationship with Kim and Shane and what sent her packing to Salem and she needs to mostly be interacting with Carolyn and Kayla and Roman and the rest of the Bradys until Kimberly returns. At the moment she's a bore and the only time I'm really interested in her is when she mentions Kim and Shane or alludes to something happening in LA and that doesn't happen that often. Patsy Pease can't get on screen fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

I hate to ask, but has she said anything new about either of them since we last posted about her?

Nothing significant. She has made a couple of allusions to her anger at Kim, and Kayla and Caroline have mentioned that they promised Kim they would look after Theresa, but that's about it. Part of the problem is that her cousins like Eric and Sami and Stephanie and Shawn-Douglas are either being portrayed as much older than her or are no longer on the show. I think it would help me care about her more if she could be interacting with some of her Brady cousins.

Taking that route, are they? Funny. I thought of the two she'd be angrier at Shane (being an absent father/ISA agent and all). But I guess if Patsy's been asked back for a bit, they'll want as much conflict as possible.

That's a shame. I think, if anyone, I would have preferred to tune in for Andrew (Theresa's brother), as the whole Kim/Shane storyline kind of fell flat when the writers turned their focus away from him and towards Eve and Jeannie (Theresa) instead.

I'd have preferred it be Andrew who turned up too--partly for nostalgic reasons. His kidnapping storyline had me hooked on Days back in the day. I was recently rewatching some of the episodes surrounding Emma's murder and Andrew's kidnapping on YouTube. I miss 80s Days of Our Lives and Another World. :(

I liked the "Who's the Daddy?" storyline a lot. Especially when Kim and Shane split after he discovered that she'd slept with Victor. Good stuff. She got outwardly tough, but inwardly vulnerable again for a while--a reminder of the pre-Shane character she was when she first arrived in Salem. I still like the fact that Tony found her sleeping in his bed on her first day. :) I loved pre-Eve Shane though. He was a great match for Kimberly.

Funny you mention Another World. I watched that too, but mostly in the 1970s. I'm guessing you're more familiar with the Cass/Cecile stuff, which I occasionally tuned in for. I was thinking about the show because Karen Black died recently. She was in Trilogy of Terror, Five Easy Pieces, and Burnt Offerings among other films. Her sister, Gail Brown, used to play Clarice Ewing on Another World. She was kind of a fluff head, but I liked her character as well as her husband, Larry Ewing, played by Rick Porter. I still remember him wearing the same blue denim shirt in most episodes. Sadly, he died a few months ago: http://www.welovesoaps.net/2013/03/rick-porter-dead-at-58.html

    Anyway, this is Karen:

    This is Gail:

I watched Gail first, but I think they both played dimwits well.

That was a great storyline--back when Victor was actually a scary villain. I loved all the early Kim stuff--though I don't think I was a regular viewer when she first turned up.

Ugh! Eve and Gabrielle--I'm not a fan of either.

I've read a lot about 70's AW and I'm pretty familiar with the characters from that time period. I wish there was more stuff from that era on Youtube.

Blaine, Sandy, Cecile, Rachel and new-Steve and Mac, Pat--those were a few characters that were prominent when I started watching.

I remember Clarice and Larry (Blaine's brother I think) and I liked Clarice. I remember the character as being really sweet and I seem to recall that she had nice friendship with Mac. I had no idea she was related to Karen Black who I know from Trilogy of Terror. I think Clarice returned for Ada's funeral years later too.

Now I'm in the mood to poke around youtube and see if there have been any more 70's and 80's AW clips that have been added recently.

welovesoaps.net recently posted episodes from 1980 during the first week they went back to only (only!?) 60 minutes long, which featured a lot of the people you mention, and a bizarre plot where Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy!!) played a kidnapper who held Mac, Jamie, and others captive at the Cory cabin. The eps are in the "today in soap history" sections.

A cute story I read about "Clarice Ewing" involved a child actor who played Jamie. He kept mistakenly calling her "Clorox" in scenes and they'd have to stop tape and re-do the scene because Procter and Gamble refused to leave in an unintentional plug for a competing product.

Here's a new pic of Gloria Loring. Loved her as Liz Chandler:

Has anyone read her new book? I read there's a story in it about one of the other actresses (a diva, apparently ;)) who threw a trash can at her when she was on DAYS. LOL She didn't name names, but it's not difficult to guess who it was.

Anyway, I loved me some Liz and Neil and was thoroughly ticked when they broke up (mainly due to Gloria wanting to leave the show). My mother quit watching forever there and then as they were her favorite couple. Here's a tribute to them and their song which always reminds me of my mother, no matter who's singing it:

    Gosh, what a gorgeous voice.

I wonder if the diva that threw the trash can was feeling a bit devilish that day.....?

Though we will prob never see Liz or Neil again, their daughter, Noel, should come to Salem. Better an established character as opposed to a useless new one.

    She looks good!

:D I haven't read it. In fact I didn't know she had one out. Reading the blurb about it on Amazon, it sounds quite interesting.

I loved them too--though it was near the end of Gloria's time on Days when I started watching, so I missed a lot of the good stuff with those characters. The Neil character never really amounted to much after Gloria left, if I recall correctly.

Chandler Massey (Will) has been released from his contract 4 months early and has already taped his last episode. I'm really sad to hear this news. I think Massey is terrific and I'm a big fan of Will and Sonny. I had heard that he was leaving when his contract was up in December, to go back to school, but that would have at least meant he would be airing into next Spring. This sudden exit means he will air until December.

The show is going to recast. I can't decide how I feel about this. I know the role has already been recast multiple times over the years, but Massey will be hard to replace.

Oh, you missed all the good stuff. Liz was great in the early days. Gloria kind of filled the void as the show's singer after Patty Weaver (Trish) left and I thought her relationship with Tony was interesting.

And you are correct about Neil after Liz left. What a letdown as he was one of the show's better characters in the 1970s. He was excellent when he was involved (and mostly pining over) Amanda. He was quite the playboy/gambler/drunk. Unfortunately, the 80s writers didn't seem to know what to do with him or a lot of my other favorite characters, so I tend not to put the 80s writing teams on pedestals as many others do.

I still wish they made good dvds of 70s and early 80s DOOL though.

I've seen some of their story on YouTube and think it's quite good. It's funny how the times have changed at DOOL. Here's an interview with Wesley Eure that you might be interested in. He played Mike Horton in the 1970s. I liked him, and still remember the accident that helped prove that Mike was Bill's son and not Mickey's. Apparently, he was fired from the show because he was gay. I like the Susan Flannery story. :)

I think the character left within a year or two of me starting. I most distinctly remember storylines revolving around her daughter Noelle, stories around her brother Tod who was involved with some bad guys, and I remember Liz getting shot in the throat. My earliest experiences with Days were pretty patchy because I could only watch if we had a day off from school or half days at school due to parent conferences.

    If only . . .

It's my favorite thing about Days these days. My second favorite thing is Kristin. With both Eileen Davidson and Chandler Massey gone, I'm a bit worried. I may be taking a Days break again for a bit and checking back in with GH.

That was fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing that. Interesting about Patty Weaver. I haven't ever seen Eure in any scenes as Mike. He came across well to me in that interview. Susan Flannery always comes across to me as someone I would most definitely never f*ck with. I have a lot of respect for her. I hope she does a book soon.

Interesting--Charlie Sheen thinks Chandler Massey was fired from Days . . .

I don't put any stock in anything Sheen says, but I wonder if the fact that they already appear to have found someone to replace Massey led Days to be the ones to let Massey go early, rather than Massey asking to leave early?

It makes sense to me that Massey would want to be done now. Fall sessions must be starting soon at California universities.
