I'm now about two-thirds my way through season 7, and can't help wondering after watching recent episodes as Donna & Ray delve into Randolph's past, whether or not they had difficulty getting past censors with some of the issues raised. Back in 1983/1984, I would have thought it a bit risky.

To me this was a brilliant storyline and gave the viewers a good glimpse into JR's character as well.

I don't remember anyone batting an eyelid at the time.

No one seemed that bothered about child abuse in the 80s. Apart from Morgan Fairchild on FALCON CREST. It was only in the 90s that everyone on TWIN PEAKS, KNOTS LANDING, ROSEANNE, OPRAH, NYPD BLUE, MELROSE PLACE and HOMICIDE suddenly started unlocking repressed memories of sinister basements and eerily tinking music boxes. Sex trafficking seems to have now replaced it as the issue-du-jour, in the UK at least.

It's obviously easy saying this in hindsight but given the way that censorship generally seems to have weakened over the years, it's a surprise that they didn't pursue Dallas on that storyline.

Well, I suppose the cast members were the ones attracting all the media interest - anything else would have been irrelevant.
