I am very surprised that no one has started a thread aout this yet.

Jeanne Cooper (according to son Corben Bernsen) is in the final stages of dying. JC went into the hospital in extremely critical condition last week, actually managed to get released, and then she was rushed back a few days ago.

It is simply a waiting game now.

VERY sad that such a soap icon will no longer be with us.

I can barely see how Y&R will come back from a loss as huge as this.

Viewers will prob know that Katherine is also very ill. I think that the writers did this as a way to have Katherine pass away too when JC does.

Though Katherine has been recast a few times when JC was ill in the past, I really hope that TPTB will never recast this character after JC finally passes on.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't want to talk about it because I still feel like I could deny it is happening if I don't say it out loud. Silly, I know, but I've been dreading hearing the inevitable news of her passing away. I log onto two soap news websites as part of my day and I've been pausing before pulling them up, for fear of reading the news.

They won't actually say what's wrong, though most people say it's some sort of blood infection. The tone of Bernsen's postings are so...disturbing that I don't even read them any more. I know he's going through the wringer.

I keep on hoping that she gets better. I only get my information from a daytime soap board, but it just seems to keep getting worse.

I have been reading posts from Corben. I hate reading them too, I keep hoping she will get better. It will be a big loss, I had the chance of meeting her a few times, and she was such a lovely lady.

I love Mrs. C. She is a huge part of Y&R and an amazing lady. I've grown up with her on my t.v. since I was a child. Wishing her the best and love to all of her family members right now.
    (l) and hugs to Jeanne & Fam.

Fans should just hang in there and keep praying. She's a tough lady, maybe she can turn it around....we have to hope right.

'Young and the Restless' star Jeanne Cooper has died at age 84

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - CBS says soap opera star Jeanne Cooper has died. She was 84.

A network spokeswoman said Cooper's family told the network of her death. Her son Corbin Bernsen's Facebook and Twitter accounts also said Cooper had died.

Cooper played grande dame Katherine Chancellor on CBS' "The Young and the Restless" for nearly four decades.

Bernsen tweeted in April that his mother faced an "uphill battle" for an undisclosed illness. In subsequent days he wrote of her gradual improvement and said that she'd been taken off breathing equipment.

Cooper's role on "The Young and the Restless" earned her repeated Daytime Emmy Award nominations and a trophy for best actress in a drama series in 2008.

She was such a great woman, playing a character not that far removed from herself. Of course, the Jill/Kay stuff from the 1970s and 1980s is delicious to re-watch, and I'm not really sure what Jill will be without her favorite (?) scene partner.

JC's final-ever scene. LOADED with metaphors and I truly think that everyone knew (even JC) that this was the end of Katherine. I am very glad that Katherine and Jill became friends in the end.

This scene originally aired May 3rd, 2013.

    RIP, JC.

The lineage of TRUE soaps actors are truly gone now.

    "Goodnight."

Very sad indeed, she was the face of Y & R.

I can't imagine them replacing her. No doubt ratings will increase a little as fans hear this.

Am also curious to see if she will be on any more shows, since they tape in advance.

As far as I know, this was the final taping JC ever did. I think that everyone knew in their hearts what was going to happen here. Look at the dialog, facial expressions, and lots of subtle 'goodbyes.'

JC could barely even walk up the set stairs. I would love to know whether or not it was in the script that JC kindly reject Jill helping her up the stairs or not. IMHO, that was the actress and the character saying. "I may be very ill, but I can do this."

The true 'goodnight' sentiment was obvious.

I am very glad that Jill was Katherine's last onscreen interaction. After nearly 40 years of fighting, peace was genuinely made between them.

    RIP.

This is devastating for Y&R. She was an original cast member and the leading lady of daytime. Prayers to her family. I hope Y&R dedicates an episode to her in some way.

Here are what some costars are saying:

As a lifelong fan, a part of me thought she'd go on forever. Jeanne Cooper just seemed like that kind of lady. Obviously I'm sad, but I'm more grateful for the endless hours of entertainment and escape she provided. She was my favourite soap star. I even named my childhood dog after her (The Duchess).

Her last scene was somehow oddly perfect. I hope CBS, Sony, and the execs at Y&R (who I have very little faith in) spare no expense and dig deep to bring back as many people to pay tribute as possible. If there's one character that deserves a hell of a send-off, it's Katherine Chancellor.

Thanks for the memories, Mrs. C. My days won't be the same without you.
