Remember that gorgeous bottle of bourbon that sat on the table in J.R. Ewing's room at Southfork, the one his brother, Bobby; son, John Ross; and, sadly, alcoholic ex-wife, Sue Ellen, have imbibed from since the rascally former oil baron's death on "Dallas" this season?
Soon enough, "Dallas" fans will be able to do some imbibing of their own, as the powers that be at the show and a Texas liquor distributor have teamed up to make a J.R. Ewing bourbon that will go on sale this fall.
"I have one on my desk, but it's unopened, and the bourbon in it is not the bourbon that's going to be in the real bottle. This was just for presentation purposes, but it's nice," "Dallas" executive producer Cynthia Cidre tells Yahoo! TV. "I look at it every day. It's awesome, with that little J.R. Ewing signature on it. It's a good idea."
And will it look just like the one we've seen during some of the most emotional moments of Season 2?

"Exactly. It will look exactly like that," Cidre says. "It has a wood cork, and it has that etching. Then, if you look through the bottle, which I don't think you can see on the show, you can actually see Southfork on the back of the bottle."
The liquor's journey to that table at Southfork, and to stores, began with Texas liquor distributor Bennett Glazer and his wife, Marion, who are big fans of the series.

"One of the perks of being on the show, a very large perk for [executive producer] Mike Robin and myself and the cast and people who work on 'Dallas,' is that when we go to Dallas, they're lovely people," Cidre says. "The people of Texas have just been incredibly welcoming to us, and we've met a lot of interesting people. One of the people we've met is Bennett Glazer, who owns the fourth-largest liquor distributor in the country. He and his wife are such huge fans of the show … they visit [the set], and we've been to their house for dinner.
"They had already prepared this bottle of bourbon. They never asked. They just presented it to us, and they said we'd like to offer you a business proposition. They made the pitch to us; we loved the bottle. Mike and I brought a couple of bottles back to Warner Bros. and gave them out and made the pitch for them. Then the rest was done between them and lawyers and [executives]. Then I just integrated it into the show."
Cidre says the bourbon will likely be available in stores in September or October, after the lengthy process required to get it in fans' hands.

"The Glazer company is a family company, and they've been terrific with us," she says. "They just presented this deal, and then they told us how it works, because we don't know how you distribute alcohol. It is a very, very complicated thing. Once everything is ready, you still have to get government approval. Then once you get government approval, you have to make, I don't know, 50,000 bottles or 50,000 cases, and make deals with whoever buys the stuff. Buy a bottle when it comes out, and let me know if you like it.
"It's going to be a premium bourbon, and I think in the $30 range. I can't wait. The day I walk into a liquor store and I see J.R. Ewing bourbon on the shelves … it's going to be a great day."

You don't just distill $30 bottles of bourbon overnight. It must be aged for years.

I want the bottle as well even though I don't drink. Does it come with the glasses as well?

It would be awesome if it came in a gift set with the JR drinking glasses.

I just hope it's not swill. That $30 price tag makes me think it will be. A good bourbon usually starts at $40 - $60.

I have been searching as well, I thought it was to have been available by fall. No news whatsoever. Frustrating that they announce this then no further news or follow up.

I definitely want to get it and I can't stand the taste of most alcohol. But I do want a memento of JR. It would be great if they just sold the bottle without the bourbon.

Well, if you can't wait any longer, we have a knock-off available now. The official one was supposed to be available in September. We waited as long as we could... then we made our own. Its not a perfect replica, but it's close as we could make it. Ours is made of a heavier Italian glass with a Southfork etched bottle stopper instead of a wooden cork.

You can buy it now at EwingOil.org (along with some great Dallas t-shirts). It comes with free JR etched rocks glasses that ARE pretty much perfect replicas. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Does anyone know if the Bourbon set is still on track to happen? If yes, where will it be distributed to, where can I buy it. I am not a drinker but I would def buy the set. I was on the EwingOil.org site and there are nice sets there but not THE set. I would also like to suggest that maybe some posters and replica fireplace artwork be offered as well as replica stetson and belt buckle set.......

FYI Dallas fans! Just wanted to share my efforts to get the full & most recent 411 from Stephen W. Phillips at the Ewing Oil Company Store - here's the email I sent him:

    Hello Stephen,

This is Wonder Woman from the Soap Chat site. I was wondering if you could fill me in on a couple of things….I’m going to copy/paste my original posting on the forum that I didn’t receive replies to:

I have several items that I want to purchase including some shares in Ewing Oil (now would that be the original Ewing Oil Company that Jock started?) Also offering stock certificates for Ewing Energies would be awesome! They would be awesome framed and matted side by side.

I’d appreciate a reply sent to my email but it would be awesome for the gang on the board to get an update from you also……

    Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,

    Wonder Woman

Just heard back from Stephen and also replied back to him as well - here's some more poop:

Thanks for the fast reply keeping JR’s hours are you? – here’s the most visually notable difference…..the one on your site has channels running up and down from the bottom but the one on the show doesn’t – it is just plain which is what makes it elegant and just perfectly so befitting of JR Ewing – he was plain – dastardly but plain – and the stopper as stated is an eye glaring noticeable difference also.

I totally love that you are doing this……..any considerations toward artwork like the Jock and now the JR portraits? How about the model oil derek that JR kept in his office?

Regarding the actual bourbon that is coming out – any insider info on how, where & when it will be offered?

    Thanks….

    Thanks! I'll certainly do that!

Our decanters aren't exact replicas. Ours are much thicker than the real ones. The bottles used in the show are... just that... bottles. I have a decanter that is much closer to the one used that I'm going to release next week when our updated site gets published, but again, its not the same thing. I don't want to upset Warner Bros, too much.

We do actually have belt buckles being made! I'm glad you mentioned that! They're just like the ones from the show, complete with the four ruby-like jewels in them. We hadn't thought about the Stetsons, but that is an excellent idea!

Our Ewing Oil Stock, is certainly classic Ewing Oil. In fact, it's not even "stock" it's "35 voting shares" to give a nod to the classic series. Yeah, we have Ewing Energies and Ewing Global on the certificate, but that's just a throw-a-way to the new fans. The heart is with the classic fans - it's even signed by Franklin Horner himself (i.e. me!)

    sincerely,

    Hey guys,
I emailed Wonder Woman back, but I'll fill you in on what our site www.EwingOil.org has plans for. We're not offering the J.R. bourbon brand but plan to continue to offer the decanters. The bottles used on the show are just that- bottles. Our decanters are heavy, commercial decanters with J.R.'s signature hand-etched in to the glass. We know they aren't exact, but it's the best we can do. We have a version coming up that is much closer to the bottle used in the show and is also a very nice, thick, double glass decanter with a cork stopper.

    http://images.replacements.com/imag...mioli_strauss_decanter_P0000140876S0002T2.jpg

In addition to that decanter, when we launch our new site late this week, we'll have some other neat products like a Braddock County Line metal street sign, Ewing Building Soda Carafe, Ewing Energies hard hat, Ewing Oil Roughneck hard hat, Ewing Building pewter miniature, Oil Well office decor, later editions of EWING license plates, and more.

Most exciting, we'll be taking orders for our J.R. belt buckle. Our first run is only 23 buckles (in honor of Ewing 23). It's 3 inches by 4 inches (which makes it a little smaller than the 3.5 by 4.5 of the real one), made of 3-D nickel, and has the 4 ruby-like stones that was in the original.

If you guys have any questions, please let me know!
