JR's Southfork take over will fail but, should it?
I vote no. JR should get Southfork because Jock would have wanted it that way, or at least half ownership. How do you vote?

I'm not sure it's certain that JR's plan will fail. Also, it's Miss Ellie's wishes he should be concerned with because Southfork belonged to her family. She left the ranch to Bobby because she knew he cared about it the most. I know JR wanted it for the prestige, but I'm surprised that he seems more concerned with Southfork than Ewing Oil. It must be because there's a sense of urgency now that Bobby's trying to sell it.

See, this is the reason why I always hoped JR would win in all of his adventures. Bobby wants to sell the ranch, which means he is not that attached to it. Yet, he holds to this stupid "legacy" of Ellie and her family, that there should be "no drilling on the ranch". If my parents tried to impose any kind of restriction like that to me, I would tell them straight in their face that I wouldn't obey it, as it is none of their business what happens to family's property after they die. And BTW, Southfork is so big, that people living in the house would experience no difference whatsoever in their daily lives, regardless of the fact that some remote sector of the ranch is being drilled on! It is not the Holy Land!!! Bobby and his "team" always hold to some stupid ideals which makes it natural for me to support those who oppose them. It's similar to watching a "Road runner" cartoon. The road runner was so irritating, that many viewers wanted coyote to catch and eat it.

I don't think a Bobby and Miss Ellie's ideals are stupid. At the very least, I can understand both sides of the debate.

Personally, I've always loved the feud and the power struggles between Bobby and JR. What I hated was when they finally decided to make JR the loser in everything he did. I much preferred when JR would beat Bobby, Bobby would beat JR, and so on. It shouldn't have been allowed to become stagnant with good constantly trumping bad. JR needs to have his victories occassionally, otherwise it's not entertaining.

So, another spoiler which has leaked... I wonder if there will be any of the "so many twists and turns" remaining for me to be surprised.
I suggest that people who leak spoilers like this be banned from the forum until the entire first season airs!

I write this because I see that the title of this thread has been edited.

The trailers have made it clear JR wants Southfork back but some people don't want any leaks so I put spoiler in the title as the potential is there.

Have you seen the first seven episodes of the press kit?

Perhaps J.R. suffers several set backs in gaining control of Southfork but ultimately wins the battle for the ranch. Personally, I hope J.R. ultimately takes over Southfork by season's end. J.R. needs to win again like in the old days.

My sentiments exactly. Originally on DALLAS J.R. was the winner and Cliff was the loser. It was awful when J.R. was always losing.

I think JR feels strongly about Southfork because it was/is his home...

I think early on in the show there was an expecation that JR/SE would take over the ranch some day since he was the oldest son.

Also is there a way to move this and all other spoiler threads into the new spoiler forum?

Thanks for creating one btw. It's much needed.

Not a spoiler, Just a prediction. But, now that it has been maked a spoiler it leads me to believe JR will fail. I hope not.

I was surprised too that Ewing Oil is not at the forefront of his mind. However, consider this: JR allegedly went bankrupt. If he gets SF, with its billions of dollars worth of oil in the ground, he would have the means to buy back (or takeover -- hostilely if necessary) Ewing Oil.

Yes... kind of like making Michael Corleone or James Bond ALWAYS losing.

At this stage JR would probably feel it is one last connection back to Jock and Miss Ellie, although he would still having drilling on Southfork at the back of his mind.

Drilling on SF, no doubt. But, just because he'd drill doesn't mean he has any less love for the ranch. I don't see why drilling on some remote section of SF, which probably has several thousand acres, would be such a nuisance. His grandfather allowed drilling at one point. Selling the ranch to some conservatory seems way, why too extreme. Jock would never have done that. And... would Miss Ellie really prefer that SF be owned by outsiders rather than come up with a compromise that kept the 150 year Southworth/Ewing legacy ownership?

BTW, they should have said that the painting of the unknown bearded gentleman in Bobby's den was a Southworth. My 2 cents.

    But who should own Southfork?

I think it should be 50/50. That way Bobby can stop JR drilling for oil on the land and JR still feels Miss Ellie included him.

I thought that portrait was of Miss Ellie's father.

I think we were all looking too deeply. It's not anyone, they got it in a dime store or something.

You can't look too deeply into the new show at all. It's obviously quite hollow in many respects, this being one of them.

Deary lord. They have a picture on the wall and its not anyone connected with the show. So what? They also have lots of other stuff. There are belongings of Miss Ellie in the series, a couple of famous items that will provoke memories. I guess that's bad as well because it wasn't the green apron she wore in episode 6 scene 3.

Poor Gary, Miss Ellie's favorite son. Or even Ray, who ran the place for years and clearly loved it.
