I am amazed there is no post about it, since it is as soapy as they come.

Elliott Baker wrote the teleplay for this adaptation of the Shirley Conran novel, and none other than David Jacobs produced it. Its famous line..

was declared the best line in television history by TV Guide in its 1993 issue where it celebrated 40 years of TV. The line would not have been possible to appear on TV had Dynasty not broken the taboo about the word "bitch" by having Krystle utter it to Alexis right before the lily pond catfight: "you miserable bitch!"

The mini-series was quite the rave back in the mid-80s. There was a sequel, Lace II, which was not as good, but for Dynasty fans it has Christopher Cazenove before he entered the Carrington world.

The original's music was written by Nick Bic√Ęt, whose music is top notch and who also did the music for one of my all-time favorite mini-series, "If Tomorrow Comes."

Oh I'm sure it's been discussed, but all posts were erased when the site crashed.
The mini-series thread is back, hopefully there'll be more discussions and info about dvd releases:

Yes, that's a good one, and I also like the intro theme.

I don't remember the old site very well actually, and I was not a registered member. To be honest, I don't know if I am referring to the same site. The one I remember was the soapnet network's one--is that the one old posters here also talk about?

I remember liking it, but when I watched the DVD a few years ago...well, I didn't even finish it.
The acting was awful and affected, especially that "girlie" friendship between the three women.

    Prince Abdullah. Seriously?

I still have the novel, and my favourite character is "Kate", who was excluded from the tv version.

And of course it doesn't make sense that a porn star is considered a worldwide phenomenon.

I only watched it back in the 80s (on VHS a couple of years after it came out in the US), and I was a teenager. I have no idea how it would look to me now. There have been a few shows that I was really in awe when younger and then watching them as an adult I laughed at my earlier taste (the original Star Trek comes to mind).
But the porn star as a worldwide phenomenon--in our age that is actually less far fetched than back then.

I still like most of the mini-series from that era, but some of them haven't aged very well.
Indeed! Today it's all about "proud to be a slut", but the 1970s and 80s celebrities tried everything to ban the media from publishing their old (semi-)nude pics (Barbra Streisand, Victoria Principal).

I wonder why Arielle Dombasle never guest-starred on any of the prime time soaps, although she was in "Sins".

She definitely had a lot of Euro-glamour.

Looking at her work, I think she was mainly based in Europe. She did do a guest spot on Miami Vice though, which historically carries a bit more of a " cooler cachet" than a guest spot on a soap.

I've had a copy of this miniseries for years and I still haven't gotten around to watching it in full. While it does look a bit ropey from the outset (the three "mothers" playing both schoolgirls and women in their 30's at various stages), the musical score is sublime and the European location shooting looks beautiful. I also have a copy of the book so I might give it a read first before I delve into the pared down TV version.

Oh, the word "bitch" had been uttered on TV long before Krystle said it by the lily pond.

Why couldn't DYNASTY have music and at least 2nd Unit montages like this?:

I didn't know David Jacobs produced LACE...

    I dunno
Since Snarky mentioned it in another thread:

So awful, yet iconic. I might quote this line randomly to strangers just to make them think I'm insane (and scoop out any potential soap fans)
