Why surprised? This new show is the same idea as those later seasons, the next generations. The later seasons are valuable than the earlier ones. Cally has JR's son, she's relevant and also young enough to be a viable character. Also, I read a rumor on Twitter Sasha Mitchell is returning (I WISH as Cally's new hubby) and Deborah Rennard is returning as Sly according to Dallas Fanzine.

But the earlier seasons are when the show was actually entertaining and watchable.

The later seasons attempt at a younger generation crashed and burned IMO. I thought all of the new characters were poorly cast. JR marrying a woman that looked like she could be his great grandaughter was not something I wanted to see, and Cally's bumpkin background ushered in a lack of sophistication on the show. Now people were getting pies to the face and ending up on prison chain gangs for comic relief. And don't get me started on James. When he tears up the release papers and JR gets carted off back to the asylum, I knew the show was done for.

That said, I don't mind them turning up at the funeral. For better or worse, they were a part of the show at one time. I disagree that either Cally or James would be viable characters today because I didn't think they were great back then. However, as long as they're a part of the funeral and nothing more, I think it will be fine.

I know the Sue Ellen fans can't stand her, but I'm actually glad to see Mandy back. Sly will be interesting to see as well. The last time Sly saw JR, they got into a fight because JR made his family think he was dead. I always thought it sucked that their friendship ended on a bad note.

Yes I kinda liked Cally and it does make sense the sane with James but God he was an awful actor! Wonder if Cally will bring JRs other heir , who would be 22/23 now

If Mandy's coming back, I wonder if she's aged well, after all, it's been well over 20 years since we've seen her, hopefully she didn't let her looks go-all-to-hell because of what happened to her before Sue Ellen ran her out of Dallas, :D!!!

As far as Cally returning, it'll be interesting to see how John Ross and Christopher react to her, and if she has a son or daughter, that could be competition to John Ross re J.R.'s estate.

Sly should be there, because she holds the key to a whole lot of J.R.'s secrets!!!

If James comes back, he would need to bring Debra Lynn and Little Jimmy, J.R.'s grandson, who would now be in his 20's and definately could be competition to John Ross.

Hopefully, Cidre won't screw this up.

Great to see Cliff, Lucy, Ray and Gary all popping up for the funeral too, followed soon after by Val and Afton.

I look at it like daytime soaps, you can take stuff from the past, even if it wasn't from a particularly good era. These are the people relevant to John Ross and Christopher. Cally as a regular recurring character with her son, who should also be a regular, makes perfect sense.

A down to earth, southern woman who enjoys life on a ranch is out of character for Dallas? Cally was basically a young Miss Ellie in a lot of ways. Also, she looked like his great granddaughter perhaps, but that is realistic. Him staying with Sue Ellen is a fantasy. Look at any real housewives show and see how much younger the women are to their husbands. It makes sense a skirt chaser like JR would have a young wife. I do agree Cally's entrance story sucked, but she was the best thing about those later years IMO. Cathy Podewell is one of the best actors ever on Dallas. Certainly the best young actress.

James either with Sasha or a new actor could inject so much life and more Ewing blood into the show. He hasn't played James in 20 years, his acting may have improved. I thought he was fine on Step By Step. Plus, as much time has passed, James could be anything for them. I'd much rather season 3 explore these characters and finally revamp the Ewing's after setting up a nice canvas with non-Ewing's for them to interact with.

The last time we saw Mandy back in 1987 she did say that she would return. We just did not know she meant in 2013.

Apparently Sly is now not returning. Deborah said that her agent had been in touch with the casting department, and the script had changed and she won't be there.

That is sad! I wish TNT would order a 16th episode so they can make this a bigger, two hour affair. I wonder if the producers pitched that. TNT must know this is going to rate highly.

Sly doesn't go, the only person who showed a genuine concern for him yet Mandy Winger pops up after all these years. I like the idea for her and Sue Ellen to meet again but Sly should be there surely.

Yes! I knew it! It makes sense for her to return! I hope she brings her child with her to steal everything away from the others lock stock and barrel!

Ugh I already see some Sue Ellen fans going crazy on facebook. The slut-shaming of Mandy Winger (When she has done nothing that most of the females on the show did not do also) is an aspect of Dallas fandom that I just don't understand at all.

Oh, wow, that is great news. I was not expecting that at all. Cally being there is great- Mandy Winger, goodness gracious, there has to be a scene between her and Sue Ellen again for old times sake. That in itself makes it worth watching the whole season for.

It's too bad Sly won't be there now, it just seems appropriate for her to be there, even if she is just a face in the crowd and has no lines at all.
