At first I was so excited, I wanted to print-screen everything. Constance's hair isn't white? Martin Peyton is wearing a red jacket? OMG.

No-one new has been introduced yet, in fact, the Lee vs. Anne story is still going on.
I hope it's not going to take a whole season to wrap it up!
It's amazing how the townspeople react to Anne's death. It has to be murder. Lee Webber has to be the murderer.
Still no news about Anne's injuries (I think she had a wound on her face, not sure if it was caused by falling down). No hard evidence whatsoever that she was killed by someone.
Makes me wonder if anyone is interested in the truth, even Steven Cord has his an agenda.
And if it were up to Elliott Carson there would be no trial at all. Lee must be guilty, burn the sinner!

10 or 12 episodes ago everyone was afraid of Lee Webber, but now he's in jail everyone has something to say about him.
Like his sweet little brother Chris, whose behaviour is getting more and more unpleasant, which only emphasizes Lee's position as the town's underdog.

Why didn't they end season 2 with Mia Farrow's last appearance on the show?

    upload_2017-4-19_2-50-11.png
Here she goes, strolling into the night.
She wasn't the type for cheerful goodbyes at the railway station, no, it should end like one of her poems - pondering, questions without answers, as if she literally walked off the page of a storybook.
    I thought it was beautiful.

There was something hauntingly eerie about Alison's departure from Peyton Place, yet beautifully understated.

There also didn't seem to be much urgency surrounding her departure either.

The initial equally eerie and more gothic departure of Fallon Carrington, two decades later, in Dynasty, almost equalled it but the aftermath ruined what was a good set up.

Having the knowledge that Mia Farrow won't return, I'm glad they're not focussing on The Search for Allison.

No matter how good Peyton Place is, it's still a soap, and not completely without it's flaws.
Constance and Elliot are worried about Allison's disappearance (well, obviously) but one would think they'd be more worried about the circumstances of that very disappearance i.e. the mental state she was in when she left the hospital, and the fact that she left without money.
I know that America is considered the land of the golden opportunities, but this is not exactly a good start for Allison to make it anywhere.
But Matthew's birth is perfectly timed, and it gives the Carsons the "excuse" to move on with their lives, and like I said before, Allison's departure doesn't really require an explanation or follow-up because it was done so beautifully.
Didn't like the Dynasty S4 cliffhanger very much, but I like how it was explained on the Colbys. But personally I prefer Fallon's disappearance when she took the taxi-from -outer space!

Lee Webber's trial has started. Correction, it's a pre-trial hearing, but to a simple Dutch person like me it all looks the same: pompous lawyers shouting at the witnesses, lots of "objection, your Honor!"-s etc etc.

I just can't begin to describe how much I love this show, it's so lush and well-crafted: the acting, writing, scenery, the cast - and a fantastic supporting cast.

At this point, partially thanks to Michael Rossi's testimony, it's becoming more and more obvious that Lee might not be the killer at all. In fact, it hasn't even been established that Anne died because of another person's wrongdoing.
And yet some of the most heroic characters of this story (Elliot and Rodney, whom both have been in the same situation) continue to behave irriationally, and they strongly disapprove of Michael's honest statement simply because that wasn't "the plan".
I find it so fascinating that a soap dares to show the good guys in a bad light.

Of course I'm very curious what happened that day on the bluff when Anne died.
    My suspicion:
-Neither Lee nor Hannah did it. The most obvious suspect being the killer only works when he/she has been acquitted of the murder charge, because they proved he/she couldn't have done it (and then it turns out he/she had done it anyway!)
-It wasn't suicide because they didn't show Anne jumping off the cliff. Even if no-one's going to be convicted, it will be impossible for the writers to prove that she jumped, although they had shown her behaving strangely when she was standing on the very edge of the cliff. It looked as if she was going to slip, but again, I didn't see it happen.
-Someone did push her. No alibi for Lee also means...no alibi for Sandy.

I loved the black & white, but Peyton Place also looks gorgeous in colour.

I'm going to start watching Peyton Place from the 1957 film to the final episode in 1969, I've watch a few episodes from season 1, but somehow I think I need to watch the film first, then carry on with it.

I recall sensing something rather angelic about Mia Farrow's Allison MacKenzie.

It amazes me to think that there was only a seven year gap between the first film and the first episode of PP.

I'm going to save those first movies for last. I believe they're based on the novels, and therefore different from the tv series.
Yes, and I also like her angelic name: María de Lourdes Villiers Farrow.
Besides, we already know that she ended up in New York City and gave birth to the Antichrist.

Leigh Taylor-Young has joined the cast, and to me it looks like a clever manoeuvre to cross over from one mystery (Allison's disappearance) to another one (Rachel's appearance).
Eventhough it doesn't matter to me personally whether they find out what happened to Allison or not, it wouldn't make sense if the people in Peyton Place wouldn't mention her ever again.
And because of the bracelet Rachel's wearing, they keep that story alive, and at the same time the viewer is being distracted by the back story of this peculiar young woman.
Peyton Place remembers, but life goes on.

The courtroom drama continues, and both mother and son Cord are at the end of their tether.
    upload_2017-4-26_16-5-1.png
I always enjoy the scenes at Ada Jacks' Tavern, it's where people go to drink and fall apart.
Evelyn Scott plays the barmaid as if she's been doing it her whole life, and she has that cool way of moving her head a little when she walks.

And here's that melodramatic courtroom scene: Peyton vs. Cord, but the old Peyton outfoxed him again.
    upload_2017-4-26_16-28-40.png

Last night I learned that Rachel had been lying after all, and that she found Allison's bracelet in her step-uncle's car.

And he's just as mean as he looks!

Catherine Peyton Harrington is giving Jacqueline Perrault a run for her money as the posthumous Source Of All Evil!
(Of course, chronologically speaking, it's the other way round).

It wasn't a surprise because I thought there had to be a good reason why Martin Peyton was so involved with the Cords, but Hannah Cord's devastating confession was nothing short of monumental. The circumstances regarding Hannah's employment were quite shocking too.

I found it very satisfying and it also feels like the end of an era, beautifully illustrated with autumn leaves.

Last night I dreamt that Sandy was revealed as Anne's killer...is it because I want to?
Or was it someone else...where was everybody at that particular time? Questions, questions...

To be honest, I had expected a little dip after this, but Peyton Place continues full steam ahead.

First, there's the aftermath of Hannah Cord's testimony, and they all deal with the situation in their own ways.
Norman, Catherine's favourite, falls apart because he thinks his mother was insane. He even decides not to have any children because of that.
Steven, although embittered (as expected), approaches the situation more pragmatically. He's a Peyton now, and he's going to get what's rightfully his.

Betty: She must have been a monster!
Steven: Really? She was just a simple part of American aristocracy. Not too bright, very gay, arrogant charm, perfect manners, cold smile, and a will of iron.

Rodney's reaction was the strangest: "I don't think I've ever loved her".
Well I guess they didn't want him to upstage his brother's drama.
Leslie can't wait to rub Peyton's nose in it but the old man doesn't blink, and he even comes up trumps during their insult fest.
Hannah Cord leaves Peyton Place (there's a goof when she refers to Martin as "Steven", apparently they didn't bother to edit it out) and burns her bridges in a soaptastic fashion.
    upload_2017-4-29_21-0-30.png
She also tells Steven that she really saw Lee Webber pushing Anne over the cliff. At that point, she had no reason to lie about it.
Unless, as Steven put it, it was a vicious farewell gift: the knowledge that he had freed the man who killed his sister.
Chris Webber also firmly believes that his brother dunnit, so I'm going to take him of the suspects list.
What ensues is a plan to kill his brother, but Lee counter-plots it by setting up Steven Cord. It was very exciting because "who's going to open that door? Steven or Sandy?"

I was overwhelmed by a feeling of sadness when Chris Webber stepped on the bus to Far-Away-From-Peyton-Place (California, I think).
I declare, he was in a much better shape when he still believed that Anne Howard had blinded him.
Now he's just a shell of a man, completely broken.

The Cords move in, and Rodney moves out of the Peyton Mansion. Leslie Harrington is furious and declares war on the new residents.
When I started to watch Peyton Place I thought Leslie was going to be the partriarch character, and I guess he was until old Peyton took over.
But he's such a lousy bum, and always so transparent in everything he tries to achieve. Basically, he's a Lee Webber with more money.

And speaking of my favourite devil:
    upload_2017-4-29_21-30-27.png
    It's Michael Culhane!

Catherine's scandal hasn't changed Peyton one bit, and as a chess player he keeps plotting his next moves. Lee is completely unaware of the fact that Peyton is convinced that he's Anne's killer.
Well, since that mystery has sort of fizzled out, I've decided to "let it go". There's no indication that someone else was involved, and Lee can keep insisting that he's innocent.
But whoever it was who dunnit: thank you!

If there's anyone who belongs in the Peyton mansion, it's Betty Anderson Harrington Cord.
    upload_2017-4-29_21-55-9.png
That beautiful contrast of the grey interior (caused by smoke and ash) and those few colours, colours that didn't exist after the sixties.

Another pretty picture, just for the heck of it:
    upload_2017-4-29_22-0-4.png

Leslie Harrington and Jack Chandler share a dark past, and they're both getting nervous that Elliot Carson might find out what it is...(what is it??)

There's a glamorous party at the Peyton mansion, with lots of guests.
    upload_2017-5-2_22-39-9.png
I think I've spotted a young Blake and Alexis Carrington!

I wouldn't say that the show feels completely revamped, but with that ancient secret about Steven's parentage out of the way, and the fresh, sixties interior of Peyton's living room, it starts to become a little more modern.
Martin Peyton is making plans for the future, and since his favourite grandson isn't ambitious enough, he decides that Rodney needs an ambitious wife: Betty!
To hell with the fact that she's currently married to his other grandson, Steven.

Leslie blackmails Betty, and then he uses that same information to distract Steven from investigating Jack Chandler, who has now left town - but he may as well be a psycho on the loose.
Apparently, Harrington and Chandler had discussed the idea of murdering Leslie's mistress Elizabeth Carson, but it hasn't been explained why (yet).
I guess she wanted him to leave his wife or something like that.

In the meantime, the atmosphere at the Carsons continues to be tense, as Elliot is determined to unravel the connection between Chandler and Allison.
"Can't you see you're destroying this family?"
15 years later it will happen to the Gioberti's in Falcon Crest season 2.

In the meantime, in Norman and Rita's living room, Dr. Rossi and Rachel Welles share a passionate kiss!
    upload_2017-5-2_23-17-59.png
    Shameless! Scandalous!

Will Peyton succeed in securing the bloodline, and reunite ex-husband and ex-wife?
