Rumours abound that Will Young will be representing the UK this year. If it's true then it's a very surprising and interesting choice. Surprising in the fact that he's just had a hit album and a couple of hits singles within the last 12 months, so he certainly doednt need the publicity, or the money for that matter. Will has always expressed an interest in appearing in Strictly Come Dancing, so if he is Eurovision bound then I suspect it's just for the pure fun of it. we could do a lot worse :)

I'm no fan of his music, but I do think he has a great voice and if he is to take part, I think he will do well.

Everyone here should hold a campaign to get John Watt the Singing Farmer to be an entry at it (search for him on YouTube for evidence of his performances!).

The competition has little credibility left without Jedward returning to nail the coffin lid on.

Compared to them, Lordi who won a few years back look positively cultured and educated.

I've never been a fan of Blue, never liked anything they've released. I don't know Jedward's song all that well, it was their appearance on 8 out of 10 Cats and Celebrity Big Brother where I found them hilarious to watch.

Oh and suppose yes, the fact they beat Blue is pretty funny too.

That's not really much of an achievement, beating Blue. Eddie Jordan playing the spoons could beat them.

Engelbert Humperdinck has been announced as the UK's entrant for this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The 75-year-old crooner will perform a track produced by Martin Terefe, who has previously worked with Mary J Blige and James Morrison.

It is co-written by the Ivor Novello award-winning Sacha Skarbek (Adele, Lana Del Rey) and Terefe. It is currently being recorded in London, Los Angeles and Nashville.

"We are proud to announce that Engelbert Humperdinck is the UK entry for Eurovision 2012!" the BBC confirmed on Twitter.

"It's an absolute honour to be representing my country for this year's Eurovision Song Contest," Humperdinck said.

"When the BBC approached me, it just felt right for me to be a part of an institution like Eurovision. I'm excited and raring to go and want the nation to get behind me!"

Humperdinck - real name Gerry Dorsey - was one of the most popular singers in the 1960s and 1970s, with hits including 'Release Me', 'The Last Waltz' and 'Quando Quando Quando'.

Katie Taylor, BBC Head of Entertainment and Events said: "Not since the '70s have we had such an established international musical legend represent the nation. We couldn't be more delighted.

"Engelbert's experience leaves us in no doubt that he will be able to deliver a standout performance in front of 120 million viewers worldwide."

Englebert Humperdink will represent the UK in the contest this year. The 76yr old crooner said he was delighted to be representing Great Britain. I'm not sure if this is an inspired choice or wether the UK has finally given up the ghost and thrown in the towel with Eurovision. I remain optomistic :)

I think more on the latter there Mike. It came as a shock when I read it. That said, I'm quite curious as to how this one will go.

It might well succeed on the basis of being so bad it's laughably bad.
