Welcome to the forums, cool name! :) :hello:

I'm afraid I can't help you, to my knowledge there hasn't been any release of the first episode, nor has someone posted it. I'm guessing it's going to be quite difficult, I'm not sure it even exists.

Are you trapped in GH's net as I am? :p This soap really rocks and it's genuine, that if someone longs for action&drama, should introduce themselves with General...

I may be willing to expand the horizons of this thread and ask you about your favourite characters/motives etc.

LoL, I am afraid I am going to disappoint you; I am not a regular GENERAL HOSPITAL viewer, but I do occasionally watch it. I think that it IS good, perhaps the best of all ABC Soaps but, then again, I don't really have much love for ABC Soaps.

Of course, it DOES have Jason in it, who is incredible :D:D:D

I remember ABC showing this 1st episode to celebrate some anniversary, it was when they first redid the theme song & opening from the "traditional" one (with the ambulance entering the gate).

Think it was in 1993 for their 30th anniversary ???

I actually have the unaired pilot for GH. It starred Denise Alexander who went on to play Laura's mom Lesley, who still appears from time to time. Not sure if the actual first episode still exists though. We have no clue what exists for soaps in the 50s-70s.

It was probably recorded over like much of early OLTL was, unfortunately.

PTGuy is saying that, probably like ONE LIFE TO LIVE's first years, ABC used the tapes of episodes to record other shows over.:eek::eek:

How STUPID can that be? So much work, gone down the drain!

That's true for most of the soaps in the 50s, 60s and 70s. I'm sure there are more episodes saved than we think, but certainly nothing close to full runs from those decades. Because soaps will likely never be released on DVD or be put in syndication, we have no way of knowing what all is saved.

We do know that Ryan's Hope and Dark Shadows were smart enough to save their entire runs. I've heard Y&R is complete as well. Starting in the 80s soaps began to save all the episodes.

From the Procter and Gamble soaps on AOL.com, they began Edge of Night episodes in 1979, so I'm hoping they have all of their soaps complete from that point on.

I have recently come across 1969 episodes of OLTL -- I'll be posting those in a new thread.
