Thanks for sharing. I followed the link and noticed the same youtube channel also had several interviews with other famous soap stars from the 1980s. :)

The interview must have taken place early in 1980 because Jim mentioned about Jock’s trial episodes. It is too bad that the legendary Western actor would pass away circa a year later. IMHO DALLAS lost a lot of the show’s raw edge feel, when Jim as Jock died. Even though for many JR was the pith the duration of 1978 – ’81 inclusive was a golden time. Thanks for uploading the video.

Bobby is now running Ewing Oil and has recently purchased a refinery. JR is up to no good, to undermine Bobby. Jock and Ellie are in the Southfork living room, having after dinner drinks, when JR appears, from upstairs, (a scene from season 3, DVD – 4, 1980 – ‘81):

    Ellie: “You goin out JR?”

JR: “Yeah mama! I’m just gonna go out to town, for a little bit.”

    Jock: “Bidness JR?”

JR: “Yes sir! I want to see if I can lend Bobby a hand. I want to help him any way I can……Night now!”

Jock nods and raises his glass, saying, “Night!”

Jock: “You know Miss Ellie I just don’t like what I see happening, between those two boys.”

Ellie: “They’re further apart than they ever were.”

Jock: “Yeah! They’re pulling me from both ends.”

Ellie: “Jock I don’t want Bobby leaving Southfork.”

Jock: “Neither do I Miss Ellie but there’s just not much we can do about it. He’s destined to want to go.”

Ellie: “I know and its’ tearing me apart but I want Bobby to stay and he will, if you don’t do anything to drive him off again. I could never forgive that Jock.”

Jock: “What about JR? Bobby’s running Ewing Oil. It might just destroy him. Now Ellie I always hoped that someday my boys could work together, live together. Now well it’s JR who’s devoted most of his time, most of his life to Ewing Oil. Bobby had time for nothing else except sewing those wild oats of his. JR was right here, working in the office, in the fields, anywhere I needed him. Now JR’s kicked out, me too for that matter. Well now I’m kinda fed up of Bobby’s attitude of hands off. Its not what he’s doing, it’s how he’s doing it. Well it sticks in my craw.”

Ellie: “Bobby has a need to prove himself.”

Jock: “Well that need is sure carrying a high price tag.”

Ellie: “I know but Jock I can’t loose another son.”

Jock: “I know that Ellie, neither can I.”

Thanks for sharing. How cool, he even talked about Knots Landing. Watching the interview made me feel like I fell through a portal in time. :)

Life can be so cruel sometimes. Just as Jim finds a role where he isn't playing second fiddle but is actually starring in a mega hit, the almighty yanks it out, from under him. What I liked about Jim playing Jock was his "gruffness." This was a man's, man. A no nonsense kind of bloke that is sorely lacking in today's society.

Everytime I re-watch Lorimar Dallas it's my subtle way of paying due respect and honoring the memory of those that have passed.

I have read that Jim Davis and Victoria Principal had a kind of father/daughter relationship. Davis had lost a daughter Tara Diane in a car accident and VP resembled his daughter.

This is a picture of Jim Davis, his wife Blanche, their dog and maybe a picture/painting of a Tara Diane Davis?

He does say that Knots Landing started the week before (27th December 1979), which perhaps puts it in the first week of January 1980?

I expect he sowed them. It was quicker than the needle and thread, especially if he had time for nothing else. Unless he machine-sewed them.
