After seeing last week's fantastic episode, I was so looking forward to tonight. I felt that the perfect set up for the legacy of JR Ewing was in place. Other than Sue Ellen and Linda Gray and her great performance, the show now sucks. The Masterpiece all but a painful subplot. Why isn't Christopher looking for his mother? Why is Katherine dead? Who killed JR (no one cares)? The history of Barnes global or whatever is so screwed up. Cliff blowing up his daughter? The mistakes are so glaring. Th characters are not understood. Now the writers have screwed up the canon so badly, I sit here in disbelief. Just no words. And I was someone who said to give these writers a chance and let them make the show their own.

This must be what happens when you "leave 80% of the original plot intact". Pure crap.

I hope I feel differently in the morning?? But this show is over. As Bobby put it, JR is dead. And in the grand scheme of things, so is DALLAS. It's enough to drive one to drink...

EWINGDVD is entitled to their opinion and judging from the feeback tonight he isn't the only one who thinks like this.

How about you guys who disagree with the OP's post, go read some other threads? By the title, it was obvious what you were in for...unfortunately the same can't be said by this episode tonight that was called DALLAS. I'm not going as far as to wish it cancelled because some people are enjoying it...but they should change the name...definitely!

I too was full of hope after the 2nd half of the last episode but after tonight, I'm not sure what the hell I just watched or who the heck the characters were.

I am a lifetime lover of DALLAS believe me. Watched it since I was 12. I don't expect everything to be right 20 years later. But now they are messing with basics and characters. What was now an easy fix, just got made ten times harder. It hurts and it saddens me. I have genuine anger. I don't want them to cancel it if they would just fire all the writers. But that won't happen.

I miss Larry Hagman. I've said it before. This show coming back was a final gift to his fans. But when they are hurting the gift, I am hurt. I truly mean it is with a heavy heart and sorry if I offended. I will keep watching until they put DALLAS in the ground, but tonight and the offending of history and characters deserves immediate reaction and comment.

Maybe I was a little too negative in my previous post. lol

It wasn't a great episode but I still don't agree it's ground for cancellation.

You have a right to your opinion no matter how idiotic it is. Tell me something WHAT IS SO TERRIBLE ABOUT DALLAS? I think they are doing a hell of a job considering MR. Hagmans unfortunate passing. The writers have carried on Dallas the best they can without the Iconic J.R. Ewing.Damn give it a chance to play out and see what we are in store for at the end of the season. No matter how bad you think The new Dallas is IT is a hell of alot better than all of this Reality crap we as t.v. viewers have to endure almost every night of the week. I said earlier that you are entiltled to your opinion just like everyone else on this board. I just hope the majority of Dallas fans will give Dallas 2.0 a chance. I have been a Dallas fan since 1978 and i believe the cast and crew are doing one hell of a job under extremely almost impossible circumstances. Does anybody else on this board agree with me? If you do please leave a reply.

Ewing DVD I sadly agree with you. Not only is back to a horrifying storyline but it is no longer charactor driven. And the story. Shudders!Cidre delights in taking the darkest most evil aspects of the human nature and then she likes to put them in a story. Cidre likes incest therefore she has Judith and Harris. Now Harris makes Judith fall down the stairs and she is unconscious or dead! If she is dead then it is incest and murder. That is vile! Cidre also has Cliff being the mafia and evil incarnate. You know it is bad when the hitman is hesitant to bomb cliffs daughter and cliff does not care! Call me a prude but I think Life is sacred and all this evil and death is just horrible to me. Cidre clean up your act! You want to do shocking?!? How about watching and liking the original Dallas. How about doing a charactor driven show permanently! How about Bobby having a sex scene with Anne! How about a gay charactor and gay love scenes! Forget rape scenes especially with Harris raping Emma!

I am with you AW Ewing. And they did a hell of a job last week. Carrying on a torch of LH/JR is probably impossible at the end of the day. But I will be here watching. It is just they are offending some serious history and characterization when last week, they nailed it!! I was harsh with the cancel it language but I don't see a way out from this. The Masterpiece was it. And it was all but forgotten.

Sorry, but I have to agree...this isnt "Dallas". This is "CGI Texas" or something but Dallas it isnt.

You will not find a bigger Dallas fan than me. I own every episode, movie, film, etc ever made of this show and have analyzed the characters ad nauseum. What they giving us here isnt Dallas. Not even close.

Hopefully they will get it right by the end of the Season. I for one would love to see the New Dallas last 13 years like the first one and make t.v. history. I agree with what you said about offending history.
I personally think that J.R. should have remained the backstabing bilionaire he always was in the original Dallas. Instead they started him out as a pauper. The face book timeline is ludicrous. J.R. had some setbacks in life but he always maintained his wealth. J.R. returns was brilliant most of the way through except when they wrote J.R as being broke then. The writers chose to ignore both movies.
One misconseption of J.R. Returns was that J.R. lost Ewing Oil and all of his money when the real Dallas ended. This was not true. J.R. sold his 50 % of Ewing Oil to that moron Barnes because he thought that he had enough Westar stock and proxies to take the company over. Dusty and Carter McCay stoped him after Clayton had given J.R. Jessicas proxies to vote himself CEO of Westar. Also Bobby ended up with Southfork then. So Mrs. Ellie and Clayton did not slight J.R. They gave him a huge block of westar. Mrs. Ellie did not know that Dusty and fat ass Carter McCay would show up and claim those shares as Dustys. What i am trying to say is Mrs. Ellie did not hate J.R as the writers tried to make the audiance believe.
I am sorry to be rambling but i agree alot of history has been ignored. I believe if the writers would start respcting that history like they did with J.R.s funeral,The ratings would pick up and hopefully go over the moon.

AW, that's what I meant an hour ago. I learned a lesson: never post in anger. Ha ha. It's like watching a child disappoint you. Don't speak until later!

I said in another thread that JR Returns should have stayed canon because it would maybe explain why Cliff is bonkers after losing Ewing Oil again...to Bobby and SE. Even though he sold it he was hood winked. But now, we long time viewers are just confused. I am sure he will lose again here soon if they get back to The Masterpiece. But tonight, I think a lot of us are upset because Larry is gone. And JR. It's literally like a grief thing.

I agree, only on the part of the character of Cliff. But they have to explain why he's this way? All we get so far is "The feud goes back way beyond his life to his Daddy and Jock." But that's it. Why isn't he the same guy as he used to be. He's bad. This is a character who will most likely get killed off soon.

Totally agree with you. And as a fan that also got to see the original as it aired, I have to say I really don't mind them not following cannon to a tee as I never expected the new show to be a carbon copy of the original. I always expected that TPTB of the new show would take what they liked about the original and carry that forward, dump what they didn't, and do the rest of the show however they saw fit. And, I think they are doing a hell of job of it and I am enjoying the ride immensely. And, when sentimental times hit and I want to go back to the original cannon of the show that is what my Dallas DVD collection is for.
