Joan had some great movies... Rebecca and Suspicion (from Hitchcock) and Ivanhoe... plus she did a fun pilot tv movie in the 80s called Dark Mansion.
From looking back over Joan's career... she was the flapper girl in the 20s, the romantic lead (think a more serious Julia Roberts/Sandra Bullock)...
I like both of them... but in terms of reinventing one's career... Joan Crawford did that numerous times from the 20s into the 60s.
