Does anybody ever mind this comedy? I used to watch it when I was a kid. Channel 4 would screen it during the summer when The Golden Girls was on it's break during the 9pm Friday slot. I loved Cliff Huxtable and the rapport he had with his kids. All those funny hand gestures and the way he'd start a sentence without finishing it. Clare Huxtable was a very smart and at times funny woman. The kids were fantastic as well. My favourite was Rudy. I'd love to have lived in the Cosby house.

I loved the Cosby Show. I used to love it and The Golden Girls. They both dominated Friday nights on Channel 4 during the 1980's. Infact on this afternoon's episode of The Golden Girls, Dorothy made a terrific remark to one of the children in Rose's brownie group. She angrily told her;
Your father's an obstetrician and your mother's a lawyer. What are you a Cosby kid?
Oh my goodness, this show is one of my favorites. It is on Nick-At-Nite and I watch it all the time. My husband teases me about it, but I really like it. It reminds me of the 80's, and the shows are still believable. It hasn't gotten too dated yet. I really believe this is the new Brady Bunch - people will be watching the Cosby Show in reruns for years.

I liked the show too and i watch it often on Nick at night, sometimes every night if i can.
But i don't like Bill cosby himself. Not to get on a rant, I just don't like him. as for living in the Huxtable house, I don't think i could. it seemed too perfect. you know. I could never live up to their high standards. of course i would be the only white kid in the family.![]()
You would have probably been the only white person on the whole show. I watched The Cosby Show for most of its run and barely saw any white actors at all.
You've got to climb Mount Everest to reach the Valley of the Dolls...

Oil Baron's Ball - Episode 53 Now Available! (June 27th)
Crude: #Ewing_Oil's Own Drama!

I think the star white person on the show was the little boy that always ran out of their house.

PETER! Yah, he was hilarious without even sayin a word! I also liked Kenny, AKA BUD!
I am glad TCS is on Nick@Nite - but then again, I love classic TV, period! Dallas, TCS, Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Cheers and The Waltons are some of my favorites.
I loved the 1st few seasons of cosby show until they brought olivia into the mix...All they did was try to remake the episodes that cliff did with rudy...it was a terrible way to bring back that relationship![]()

I watch it some...its alright just not a favorite of mine.

THE COSBY SHOW is coming out on DVD this year. The show was good, until it became all about money - about the children all being expected to go to college and become happy little capitalists, and until Claire Huxtable turned into an unbearably smug superwoman.
I never used to watch it as a kid, but now that's on Nick at Nite I watch it all the time!
Homer : There's a $10,000 bill in it for you.
Barney : Oh yeah? Which president's on it?
Homer : Uh...all of them. They're having a party. Jimmy Carter's passed out on the couch.
i remember when it first came on nick at night. i watched it all the time. i even taped it. then i kind of got burnt out on it. but cliff still makes me laugh. just none of the other ones do.
oh yeah. this made me laugh. but it was a WTF? laugh. if you recognize it then maybe you'll remember how weird it was. i'm talking about this...."jammin on the one".
Season 1 comes out on DVD on 2nd August.

I loved the Cosby Show. Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad had amazing chemistry. They were the hottest couple in sitcoms.

Cosbys! This show will neverrr get old. The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable. The love they had for their children. How well-raised they were. simply amazing. Used to catch it all the time on TVLand. Nip it in the bud!

I have FOND memories of the ORIGINAL MUST SEE TV on NBC...Thursday nights was THEE night for comedy...you had the Cosby Show...A Different World....Cheers...and Night Court...followed by Hill Street Blues...Of course I would flip back and forth so I could also watch Knots Landing
But as for the Cosby Show...I remember how big a thing it was to have a show like this on tv....it really was a BIG thing...to see a black family...not poor and struggling...living well...with TWO parents...STILL together and MARRIED...raising their family with high standards and good moral values...this was a great thing for ALL to see.
I never thought the Huxtables were not like any other black family. I came from single parenthood...my parents split when I was very young...My mom didn't make a lot fo money...so I was not in the latest gear...BUT she was still like Cliff and Clair in that I had rules to follow and an education to obtain. I remember getting a C one quarter in Spanish and she had a caniption...needless to say I got an A the next quarter...she didn't push me too hard...she pushed me to do the best of my abilities...which is what Cliff and Clair did with their kids...and they were rightfully disappointed when Denise made ill thought out decisions like drop out of school...BUT they never disowned her...and they always supported her...ALWAYS...My parents were disappointed in things I have done too...but they still loved me.
As for the college thing...what parent DOESN"T want their kids to get the best education...except those who are ignorant enough to think that IN TODAY"S WORLD...all you need to do is graduate high school...we all know that today this is not possible...a high school diploma barely gets you a job at McDonald's. While I do agree that a four year university is not for everyone...there are other forms of post secondary education out there to help folks obtain skills needed to secure something decent...but even with that, as my sister is seeing, the more education you have...the better of you will be. My sister just finished school for med assistant...after working in this field for a while...she is now planning step two...nursing school.
Also...the push for the kids to go on to college was not just about being "good little capitalists"...it was more than that...try independence...and to experience more than just what they see on tv or out on the block...empowerment even...getting a college education has always been about more than getter a better pay...that is if you are taught right.
As for no white poeple on the show...you are SO WRONG...go back and watch the episodes...The Huxtables had white neighbors, friends, buisness clients and partners...this show was more integrated than you'll find on most shows today...and compare it to any of its white counterparts...how many episodes of those shows did you see the main characters interacting on a consistent level with any minorities?...YOU DIDN"T.
And by no means were they perfect...Denise is the prime example...she was not the perfect kid...neither was Theo, Vanessa or Rudy...can't count Sandra because she was pretty much grown and gone...BUT...even Sandra did something a little against what she was expected to do...after she and Elvin get married...she doesn't immediately start law school and he doesn't immediately start med school...they open a WILDERNESS STORE...We all know about Denise...dressed weird, looked like a stoner but wasn't...wasn't the best student...drops out of college...does things on a whim...like marrying Martin...then there's Theo...he was a TERRIBLE student...got a lot of D's and F's...hated to study...always wanted to take the easy way out of things...could at times get mixed in with the wrong crowd....We find out later he has a learning disability (dyslexia)...and Vanessa...she took the cake...she was the Huxtable BAD GIRL...she was ALWAYS on punishment...wearing make up before the age of consent...lying ALL THE TIME...she and her friends took the car and went to a concert out of town and the car got stolen...she got drunk at a party...I could go on....and Rudy...when she turned 12/13 she was a mess too...she and her frineds sneek into some club in the Village and get caught.
Some of the things these kids did was what most kids do at their ages...especially the teens...a lot of what Rudy/Theo/and Vanessa did WAS what teens did...and while we never actually saw Cliff or Clair whip the kids...it was infered...esp in the first season...that if the punishment was severe enough...they didn't hesitate to use a belt.
I like the way this show was put together...it was very realistic...for families who had structure and instilled good values in their kids... like mine...and again I didn't have the same social-economic background as they did.
Crowley to Pepper: "Well you know, Pep. It's probably just as good that he was busy. Because, uh, that'll give us a chance to get together tonight and work on your; aptitude, coordination, physical ability, and most especially your imagination. What d'ya say?"
Well said, MsTexas73. I actually have more appreciation for this show now than I did when it originally aired. As far as no white people, I can think of four or five white characters right off. John Ritter, Robert Culp, and Adam Sandler appeared on the show. I remember Clair having a white friend/colleague who confided to Clair about problems in her marriage.
IMO, it was the "Cosby Show" that jump started "Family Ties". That show was just another sitcom until the "Cosby Show" came along. I also think at one time or another, "L.A. Law" was a part of that must see TV line-up.
One thing that always bothered me also was how people complained that the "Cosby Show" was not realistic as far as how black people really lived. It was just as realistic as "Good Times" if you ask me.

And Yes...that was the big controversy that Cosby was not realistic for black families...and people would counter "Niether was Good Times"...in fact both shows depicted life for certain families...but I'm sure families that were economically like that of the Evans family could relate to the Huxtables too...and vice versa.
