I am really struggling here to understand the point of a re-imagining of DYNASTY. Why not just make a new show on a similar theme. Especially if you are going to start changing so much about it. The one thing DYANSTY really had going for it was it's casting. Who can ever step into Alexis' shoes or Fallon's or Krystle's or Sammy Jo's. There is no way in hell that a show on the CW is going to be able to get such perfect casting.

They should have just made it a loose continuation, with very similar recurring plot elements to the original show. That way they could have had Joan and Linda in recurring roles and avoided comparisons to the original iconic DYNASTY cast.

I haven't read much about it to be fair but what I have read doesn't appeal to me.
Having DYNASTY back wont work without Joan Collins as Alexis. Anyone else in that role is going to come off as a bad parody in my opinion.

I agree 100%. But I think this is supposed to be a fun project, like, making a remix of a song. Even without considering the stellar (original) cast, it will be next to impossible to recreate the atmosphere from that particular era.
We've discussed hundreds of what-if scenarios on the old forum, and now we can have an alternative Dynasty version.
I'm not saying that they will use any of those suggestions - probably not! - but it's possible, and that's what makes it so exciting. What part will be the same and what are they going to change? How will it look? The fun of comparing things.

Personally I'd struggle with a continuation, that could only work for Dallas simply because John Ross III has always been such an important part of the original story, unlike the Carrington and Colby kids.
Bringing back the old cast? I prefer to remember them the way they were, instead of watching the "Shady Pines" versions.
Then there's the issue of S9 vs. mini-series, quite a mess if you ask me.
Nobody's interested in watching a grown-up Krystina or Danny (who were they???) and the Alexis we knew...she's gone. Thankfully, Joan Collins is still alive and kicking, but not so kicking, if you know what I mean.

That doesn't mean I'm not concerned at all. I plan to enjoy this, but something like miscasting could sabotage that, so at least we should be prepared for a little challenge.

Unfortunately, it's like the Alien monster. The fun and excitement is in not having seen it and all the possibilities remaining open. Once the beast does come out (if it ever comes out - many announced reboots like the new Bewitched or Wonder Woman ended up never getting past development or pilot stage), I fear it'll hopelessly pale in comparison.

I think there's a distinct whiff of The Royals about it. You can't hope for much better on a CW budget.

Of course our fantasy versions were re-writings of original Dynasty and its original cast. That's not possible:(

But sometimes I really want to see that monster:)

Yes! Joan Collins was definitely the expert on Alexis, and I'm not sure if anyone can top what she did then on ABC.

I'm not sure if that's what they want to do. It's not very realistic trying to outdo these iconic characters.
But I also remember that there were plans for a Dallas movie (different actors) and most people were very excited about it.

If this new version turns out to be a big disaster, then it won't be because it's not as good as the original. It has to fail (or succeed) on its own merits, like all the other movie and tv series remakes.
But, like @colbyco said, when it has something to do with Dynasty then I don't think I could not watch it, and I guess that's how it worked for the Dallas fans who didn't like the sequel series very much.

What's even more worrying about it is that from the little information released about the project there is no mention at all of an Alexis character. It's like they have set up the drama to unfold around Fallon and the new young wife Cristal. (It hurts my fingers to type that name that way)
Could they be doing away with that element altogether?

I was full of enthusiasm for TNT Dallas but as I watched week after week it quickly dawned on me that it wasn't the type of show I wanted to watch. It just wasn't very good in many, many ways. It was nothing like the original show. It had no heart, and it had a bunch of people who were not part of the original show and they were supposed to have been there all along. I quit in season 1 I think and never watched again. I read on the site that it got worse and worse. The ratings reflected that. I will of course watch a new reboot of DYNASTY though for how long? Who knows?

There was a very particular feel to original Dallas that the TNT version just couldn't recapture. It was too slick, too fast paced and too twisty. No slow build of the relationships of the characters. I doubt a new DYNASTY will recapture that magical feeling of the old show when it was good. The old money/new money thing, mahogany and marble, the crystal and gilt, the oil and oil paintings, fountains and clock towers and lily ponds. Cobwebbed art studio encounters, the venom and vitriol, furs, champagne and diamonds and sequins.

"I see The Royals mixed with Gossip Girl and Footballers Wives, I see no future for you!"

The very first season of the original series was centered around Fallon and Krystle (or at least, they're the two characters that mostly everybody remembers who appear in that season), so perhaps the new show is going the same route? Perhaps they're going to hold off on introducing Alexis so they can devote just a little extra time to find the right (or right enough) actress to play her?

I honestly don't think that the ones who liked it rated it as outstanding drama. Maybe it had more to do with the idea, the feeling, that their favourite show was back, and how bizarre it was to watch that alternative version (because it also looked like a remake).

That's how I feel about the current Five-0 on CBS w/Alex O'Loughlin. When the original-recipe Jack Lord Five-O started in 1968, it took some time, IINM, for audiences of the time to get familiar with McGarrett, Danno, et al., and from that start, it eventually became one of the classics of television, and it was slow-paced and took its time to build up a story every week. Nowadays, it's all flashy effects, shakycam, and that lot, and there's really nothing to enjoy about the current show, at least IMO.

    - that´s the way new shows are made today.... and I think they´ll DYNASTY the same way...

    - but I have to say I liked the new DALLAS ... it was fresh, fast and had some good old sidekicks like Southfork, old cast etc. - I would prefer a new DYNASTY made this way soooo much more!!!!

To be fair most people don't remember the first season of DYNASTY. At least not casual fans. I can imagine me hate watching and yelling and throwing things at the TV when a non Joan Collins appears as Alexis.

"Hawaii 5-0" just did a scene with a CGI Jack Lord, didn´t it? "Dienasty" could do a video will of Tom Carrington with a CGI John Forsythe (RIP)...
