Jock to Ray in front of a room full of speechless Ewings!

person 1: "You have a way of popping up at the oddest times."
person 2: "Like a defective toaster?"
person 1: "Well you don't look at all defective to me."

I'm just going from memory here, but it seems like Cliff would have said to Mark Graison something about "you have a way of popping up at the oddest times."

Am I on the right track with this thinking?

yep, it was Sue Ellen and Cliff (the toaster), but in Double Wedding, when Cliff turned up at Southfork unexpectedly. Lucy also eyed him up and down and deemed him to be "not bad!"

Teresa after the Ewing matriarch foolishly challenged her to a Tex-Mex cookoff!

(um, ok, it was Jock after his heart attack when Miss Ellie wouldn't let him put salt on his food. - Maybe in Julie's Return?)

Wow! Great line! Either the codicil fight, or the Calhoun after-math. But can't yet think who said it! First gotta place it in the right season.

JR's man in the southeast Asia. Man, was I off!

    Actor 1: "That's armed robbery".
Actor 2: "Not its paragraph 17A section F".

The reason I enjoyed this quote so much is it showed that even though Bobby didn't approve of J.R.'s dirty deals, he at least respected J.R.'s business savvy.

It was during Jock's Will and the battle for Ewing Oil, which is a great time period for Dallas. It was those seasons that you really couldn't wait for the next episode to see what would happen.

In Bill's quote above, J.R. had entered into a deal with the cartel where they all owned part of a rich oil field. Oil prices are down, and the cartel wants to sit on that oil until prices rise. But Bobby needs the money now so he can win the battle for Ewing Oil. Bobby asked his accountant (Mr. Gurney) to look over the contract and Bobby's comment was something like:

"Well, if J.R. wrote the contract, I'm sure it will be to Ewing Oil's benefit."

And he was right! Part of the contract stated that if Bobby (or anybody else in the cartel) wanted to start drilling, then the other cartel members had to go along, or buy Bobby out at TEN TIMES the going rate.

When Bobby called the cartel in, they announced that oil prices were down and they weren't going to drill.

Mr. Gurney: Then you'll have to buy him out, and you have to pay him ten times the going rate.
    Jordan Lee: That's highway robbery!
Mr. Gurney: No, that's paragraph 17A section F.

BWHAHAHAHA! Even the accountant got in a good zinger (even if on accident).

Here's a line that capped off a nice conversation between two characters:

"I'm not jealous of J.R. very often but today I am just a little."

You are right that it's Bobby. And to give you a hint, it is also during the battle for Ewing Oil.

In this round, it was something like, "By God JR, you sure know how to write a contract!".

"$5000? Chicken feed boy, chicken feed."

ha! That's Jock to JR after JR foolishly claimed he could drink Jock under the table (only the Guzzler had a prayer at doing that!)

Later that day they ran into gas station owner Red, who was upset about that Bobby was endangering the independent stations around the time the Venezuelan tanker 'sank' and Bobby was scrambling to meet his obligations to supply oil.
