What actors do you think deserve a better career than they have? Actors that should be getting bigger roles, but just keep getting small roles or direct-to-dvd movies.

Great idea for a thread @Emelee! I have one question: is there any age limit? And another one (which would sum...3 ;) ?): Are soap actors eligible even if they are supposedly retired and taking care of their multi-million dollar skincare business?

I'm not sure if some of these on my list could be classed as already having 'bigger' roles, but here they are.

They may appear in a lot of shows, but I don't see them getting the star billing.

    Carrie Preston
    Michelle Forbes
    Sarah Paulson
    Martha Plimpton
    Marcia Gay Harden
    Katherine Heigl
    Diane Neal
    Lily Rabe
    Robin Lord Taylor
    Cameron Monaghan

The first one that comes to mind for me is Sarah Michelle Gellar. I mean in the early 2000s many thought she had a promising movie career ahead of her. She totally owned the movie Cruel Intentions (1999) and yet her co-star Reese Witherspoon went on to win an Oscar a few years later while Sarah's career went in the opposite direction and she's now started a new career selling baking kits aimed at families with little kids. I wish her success in her business endeavor but I really miss watching her act in movies or TV-series since she's so talented!

Bonnie Langford. She has a great career on stage and some TV, most recently on EastEnders but she deserves being in British, Hollywood and international films because she is such a good actress. This may sound controversial but I think she is at least as good an actress as Dame Judy Dench or Olivia Coleman.

Thanks! Then I´m going to dream now... (so to say)

    upload_2019-1-18_20-12-15.jpeg

VP guest-starring in a season of "Grace & Frankie" as a rival of both characters, and the chairwoman of a millionaire vibrators company secretly almost ruined because of their "invention" (in the pic, you can see VP´s character talking to both women in an attempt of pretending to merge the two companies...VP would be great in this, especially if she uses her very infectious laughter at some point...)

    [IMG] upload_2019-1-18_20-15-41.jpeg

In the mother of all crossovers (Dallas meets The Good Fight meets TNT Dallas), Pamela Ewing reappears as a woman who wants to suit the truck driver who made her defooormed and become addicted to plastic surgery. Coincidentally, Judith Ryland happens to be at the firm and tries to manipulate her so she goes back to Bobby´s life and that Ann woman can end up in the gutter where she belongs...Diane Lockhart was missing because she was doing her own crossover into the "Mamma Mia" universe...

Just a couple of examples...Many more to come (is that a threat...? Did any of you say that?)

I wouldn´t worry too much about all those actors. They will have a job as long as Ryan Murphy is alive. I don´t know about Diane Neal (I had to google her...), but all the others are very talented and scene-stealers. Lily Rabe starred in her own show a couple of years ago but it wasn´t gory enough or distasteful enough to be renewed, too bad because it was good. The two guys of "Gotham" could easily fit into Murphy´s gay harem fictional universes given the latter´s influence on the Hollywood gay lobby (or whatever they call it now). Taylor is gay and Monaghan looks like though he´s (allegedly) straight, so they both could star in future "American (insert here your fav genre) Story" seasons.

Of all the girls you mentioned, I find Preston, Forbes, Plimpton and Gay Harden especially talented, and they don´t seem to be the kind of actresses who need to be up and front to have a successful career in movies (despite GH´s great career Oscar and all). Rabe and Paulson are Goddesses. So they don´t need too many big roles or awards (which both deserve for their past and future roles!).

What is Heigl doing in this list by the way...? :confuse::mo:

Maxwell Caulfield should have been a bigger star. Many big stars are actually Caulfield-clones.

Many many many actors from daytime soaps deserved better, IMO. Far from all, but those that are great actors and "too good for daytime" sure do/did. They are far too many to name though. I'll just end up forgetting someone.

From TNT Dallas, I am surprised that Julie Gonzalo and Emma Bell disappeared.

Almost every actor who won an Oscar too early deserves a better career. It´s almost a curse (actually some clever minds call it like that...) but as soon as an actor gets an Oscar too early (or too late in some cases), no matter if he/she deserved it, they begin to a) file their spouses for a divorce and b) accept roles in franchises or B-movies.

Names that come to mind: Kim Basinger, Halle Berry, Russell Crowe, Adrien Brody, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, Hilary Swank...

I had a sneak peek on their IMDb pages and saw many shows, but most of them are not what I've seen. Apart from AHS (which I grew tired with) I've only seen them pop up or as a recurring role in shows.

    LOL

I loved her in GA and felt the show go downhill a bit after she left, I've not seen her in anything else.

All that said, I don't really take an interest in an actor's life, so I have no idea what any of these people are like, or even if (God forbid) they support that orange blob in the White House
