    1. Les Moulins De Mon Cœur - Michel Legrand
Perfectly haunting, as the song should be. He has a really nice voice. I have many Legrand songs which are instrumentals or sung by others, but hearing this and sifting through my iTunes I discovered I also have another vocal by him in my collection (albeit in English): Paris Was Made For Lovers. So that’s a bonus.

    2. Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
This one is completely new to me and my first impression is a winner. It’s a very well written song that left a bittersweet aftertaste. A bit like waking up on Boxing Day.

    3. When You Tell Me That You Love Me - Diana Ross
We shared a lot of our musical tastes in our family. This was one of those songs that the whole family liked and listened to a lot when it was first released. I associate it with my Mum especially. It’s a while since I’ve listened to it, and I still find it beautiful and timeless.

    4. In The Ghetto - Elvis Presley
A poignant story song. Elvis’s post-comeback period saw some of his best arrangements. The sweeping strings and angelic chorus on which Elvis’s voice floats along still sound wonderful today.

    5. I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs
This one has a very specific memory. I associate it with a friend of mine helping me decorate a new place I’d moved into. He sang along to this song as he was painting when it came on the radio. Listening to him I actually got the lyrics for the first time. Up to that point I hadn’t realised the chorus had lyrics as it it had previously sounded to me like they were singing gibberish. My friend died shortly after this, but whenever I hear this I think of him and smile.

    6. Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan
So harsh and bitter. And so articulate. As you said, Angela, it’s compelling.

    7. All Together Now - The Farm
I enjoy the message of this one. It’s really quite touching and hopeful.

    8. Losing My Religion - R.E.M.
This is another I haven’t heard for a while. This time round I was struck by how good Stipe’s voice sounds and how the lyrics still grab by the throat.

    9. Feel It - The Tamperer feat. Maya
This takes me instantly back to clubbing with friends. Feel It was one of the songs guaranteed to get us up on the dance floor. It’s hard to believe it’s the best part of twenty years ago. But then it’s also hard to believe there was a time when I could stay awake past eleven o’clock several nights a week.

    10. Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Confession time: I first discovered this song through Glee’s karaoke version. I loved it and this led me on to discovering Gaga’s original which I also love. This is the first time I’ve seen the video for the song and it’s left me in love all over again.

I’ve been listening to your 20 songs this week and I’ve lost count as to which song was going to be my favourite out of the top three.

I wasn't aware of this song so I just listened to it. I like it but I wonder if it would have been better had he sung it in French.

    I love this description.

It's so much fun seeing what others think of my favourite songs and which ones that rank the highest.

Thanks @Ome for collating the results and everyone else for choosing your favourites and for your comments on the songs. The final top 20 could easily have been mine on another day (although I would have given a bit more love to Devil's Nightmare by Oxide & Neutrino) as I love all the songs and it was difficult deciding how to order them in my list.

This has been a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing everyone else's personal favourite 20 songs.
