1. I kissed you in the water

And made your dry lips sing

I saw you look like a Japanese baby

In an instant I remembered everything

    Stand By Me

Suggested by @Emelee, "Stand by Me" is a song originally performed by American singer-songwriter Ben E. King, ritten by King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. According to King, the song title is derived and was inspired by a spiritual composition by Sam Cooke, although Mike Stoller has stated differently.

In 2012 it was estimated that the song's royalties had topped £17 million, making it the sixth highest earning song as of that time. 50% of the royalties were paid to King. In 2015, King's original version was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library Of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant", just under five weeks before King's death.

Melbourne Victory Football Club adopted "Stand by Me" as their pre-game song before kick-off in the A-League.

There have been over 400 recorded versions of "Stand by Me" performed by many artists including:Adriano Celentano (Pregherò, 1962); Spyder Turner (1967); Rita Pavone (Stai con me - 1970); John Lennon (1975); Mickey Gilley (1980 - included in the film Urban Cowboy); Maurice White (1985) and The Cause (1998).

164 of the recorded versions may be found here. Check them out and post your favourites below.

Single song entries won't be counted. Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of two choices (feel free to list more than ten, but be aware that only the first ten will be counted).

We'll do the results on Sunday. But more time is no problem if needed.

Yes, I was surprised with various versions of this one. It makes me question all those songs I don't like from across the years - maybe it's not actually the song but the vocals...

I’m impressed with how many good versions there are, so I’ve gone for a different approach when choosing my top ten this round.
I’ve chosen a few live performances because I've enjoyed watching how much the artists appeared to appreciate performing this song.

    Mamy Blue

Suggested by @Willie Oleson, "Mamy Blue" (later aka "Mammy Blue") was originally written with French lyrics in 1970 by veteran French songwriter Hubert Giraud. Conceived in his car during a Parisian traffic jam, Giraud completed a demo within a few days. After four months the first recorded version of "Mamy Blue" was made - with Italian lyrics - by Ivana Spagna marking that singer's recording debut.

In May 1971 Alain Milhaud acquired the song for Los Pop-Tops, a Spanish group he managed. Milhaud produced the Pop-Tops recording of "Mamy Blue" in a session in London after the group's frontman Phil Trim wrote English lyrics for the song. The Barclay label expediently had the song covered by both Joël Daydé in French and Nicoletta. The Pop-Tops and Joël Daydé both reached #1 on the French charts with "Mamy Blue" while the Nicoletta version rose as high as #4 affording the singer her career record.

The English version of "Mamy Blue" has also been recorded by Horace Andy; Julio Iglesias; Bobby Curtola; Vicky Leandros; Genya Ravan; Demis Roussos; Muslim Magomayev; Laima Vaikule and the Les Humpries Singers. Céline Dion and Lara Fabian have covered the song in French.

SecondHand Songs have 40 versions to explore. But maybe you have some favourite versions to share here. Either way, enjoy and post your favourites below.

Single song entries won't be counted. Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of two choices (feel free to list more than ten, but be aware that only the first ten will be counted).

We'll do the results on Tuesday. But more time is no problem if needed.

Well spotted. It's been one of those weeks for me. I haven't even had time to listen to everyone's choices properly yet. :(

Here's hoping I get on top of things enough to catch up with Mamy Blue. It's a new song to me so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

It's a good thing that I skipped My Way. I would have given Frank Sinatra a 10, and then refused to give others any points, or even refused them to even steal "his" song. ;)
