I think I've nominated the Pop-Tops version. Perhaps the Covers Top Ten (because Ivana did it first). I'm glad I had the chance to explore more versions.
The only thing that's missing is a Love Is Mamy Blue mashup.

Like Ome, this one was a new song for me. Thanks for suggesting it, @Willie Oleson.

Along the way, I discovered that I didn't like the whimsical "Oh mamy. Oh mamy mamy" intros on a lot of them (mainly because I listened to about thirty of them back-to-back). But once I got past them I discovered a great track.

    1. Hugo Montenegro
    Spy Mamy.

    2. Stories
    Motown Mamy.

    3. Lara Fabian
    R&B Mamy.

    4. Celine Dion
    Sweet Mamy.

    5. Franck Pourcel
    Easy Mamy.

    6. Johnny Dorelli
    Smooth Mamy.

    7. Raymond Lefèvre
    Mystical Mamy.

    8. Cherry Laine
    Disco Mamy.

    9. Ken Boothe
    Theatrical Mamy.

    10. Joe Cocker
    Gritty Mamy.

Haha, well I think it's one of those typical "guilty pleasure" songs. Some versions sound more "guilty" than others, though.

    Next up…
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Suggested by @Long Lashes, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by British political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger to sing. At the time the couple were lovers, although MacColl was married to someone else. MacColl and Seeger eventually married.

The song entered the pop mainstream when it was released by the Kingston Trio in 1962. Other pop folk covers included Peter, Paul and Mary; The Brothers Four; The Chad Mitchell Trio and Gordon Lightfoot.

The song was popularised by Roberta Flack and was her breakout hit. Flack's slower, more sensual version - recorded in 1969 - was used by Clint Eastwood in his 1971 directorial film debut Play Misty For Me during a lovemaking scene. With the new exposure, an edited version became a very successful single in the United States where it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening Charts in April 1972 for six week runs on each list. It reached #14 on the UK Singles Chart. In Canada it was No.1 for three weeks in the RPM magazine charts.

The song has since been recorded hundreds of times. MacColl made no secret of the fact that he disliked all cover versions of the song. He said that the Elvis version was like Romeo at the bottom of the Post Office Tower singing up to Juliet, and that all other versions were travesties: bludgeoning, histrionic, and lacking in grace.

You can find 164 tracks full of bludgeon and histrionics here. Have fun exploring them, and post your favourites below.

Single song entries won't be counted. Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of two choices (feel free to list more than ten, but be aware that only the first ten will be counted).

We'll do the results on Wednesday. If you need more time, just let me know.

This one didn't show up in my search results.
It was a popular sound in the 00's and early 10's.

I did wonder if it was the sound/melody that I felt some connection with - as well as the possibility of you nominating the song at some point.

We're of one mind here, Willie. Of the many versions in my music library, the Sterophonics/Jools Holland version is by far my favourite.

Will I find another this week that betters it? Watch this space… ;)

I just tried the Stereophonics video because I had 9 titles and I wanted to post a top ten. Little did I know that it would turn out to be my favourite.
Isn't it strange (in an eerie sort of way), that an hour ago I didn't even know what my favourite TFTEISYF version was?

Is there something else I should know?

That is quite mind-boggling. It just goes to show it pays to keep an open mind.

    Is this a question or a suggestion…?! ;)
