Bellbird could have been Australia's answer to Coronation Street. I think Neighbours and Home & Away should be axed and for Bellbird to return, as it has more potential and they didn't go around killing characters off as much as Neighbours and Home & Away.

The only Bellbird characters that can return are the ones who weren't killed off in the soap's 10 year run.

The following actors from the soap are still alive and well:-

    Peter Aanensen (Jim Bacon)
    Lesley Baker (Cheryl Turner)
    Elspeth Ballantyne (Lori Chandler)
    Bruce Barry (Michael Foley)
    Julia Blake (Elaine Thomas)
    Carl Bleazby (Colonel Jim Emerson)
    Dorothy Bradley (Rose Lang)
    Anne Charleston (Wendy Robinson)
    Moira Charleton (Olive Turner)
    Lynette Curran (Rhoda Lang)
    Penny Downie (Kelly Jameson)
    Beverley Dunn (Mary Campbell)
    Anne Lucas (Glenda Chan)
    Maggie Millar (Georgia Moorhouse)
    Dennis Miller (Constable Des Davies)
    Rod Mullinar (Scott Leighton)
    Terry Norris (Joe Turner)
    Tom Oliver (Tom Grey)
    Anne Phelan (Kate Murray)
    Michael Preston (Father John Kramer)
    Robin Ramsay (Charlie Cousens)
    Sean Scully (Ron Wilson)
    Ian Smith (Russell Ashwood)
    John Stanton (Leo Hill)

It got the axe because it apparently didn't rate well in the cities. Although later rural dramas like A Country Practice and McLeod's Daughters had long successful runs so there obviously is an appetite for country shows, maybe Bellbird had just run it's course.

Bellbird to Australia during the 1960s would have been what EastEnders is to the UK in the 1980s come to think of it, not Coronation street.

Tom Oliver, Ian Smith and Anne Charleston are already typecast as Lou Carpenter, Harold Bishop and Madge Bishop in Neighbours though, so couldn't return, and the same goes for Elspeth Ballantyne, Patsy King and Sheila Florance in Prisoner, again typecasting.

The cast of Bellbird would look something like this if it was brought back:-

    Peter Aanensen (Jim Bacon)
    Lesley Baker (Cheryl Turner)
    Bruce Barry (Michael Foley)
    Julia Blake (Elaine Thomas)
    Carl Bleazby (Colonel Jim Emerson)
    Dorothy Bradley (Rose Lang)
    Moira Charleton (Olive Turner)
    Lynette Curran (Rhoda Lang)
    Penny Downie (Kelly Jameson)
    Beverley Dunn (Mary Campbell)
    Keith Eden (Gil Lang)
    Brian Hannan (Roger Green)
    Gabrielle Hartley (Maggie Emerson)
    Alan Hopgood (Matthew Reed)
    Lynda Keane (Ruth Grossark)
    Stella Lamond (Molly Wilson)
    Anne Lucas (Glenda Chan)
    Terry McDermott (Max Pearson)
    Maggie Millar (Georgia Moorhouse)
    Dennis Miller (Constable Des Davies)
    Carmel Millhouse (Marge Bacon)
    Rod Mullinar (Scott Leighton)
    Terry Norris (Joe Turner)
    Anne Phelan (Kate Murray)
    Louise Philip (Christine Jackson)
    Michael Preston (Father John Kramer)
    Robin Ramsay (Charlie Cousens)
    Gregory Ross (Chris Lang)
    Sean Scully (Ron Wilson)
    John Stanton (Leo Hill)
    Ross Thompson (Terry Hill)
    Bryon Williams (Adam Lockhart)
