Coronation Street fans have spoken - and they want Pat Phelan back to cause havoc on the cobbles. The ITV1 soap has shared its spoilers for the week ahead, which prompted calls for the ultimate soap baddie to make a sensational return to Weatherfield. As praise came pouring in for Alexandra Mardell as heartbroken Emma Brooker and the new Bailey family, other fans said Phelan has been 'hibernating' for too long. "Bring back Phelan, he had his hibernate kip," commented one viewer, who is keen for Phelan to knock Gary Windass off his perch as Corrie's new villain. They added: "Please hurry up and come back out of your phantom hibernate kip, will startle that Gary. "We miss u, Connor." Actor Connor McIntyre, who won Villain of the Year at the British Soap Awards 2018 for his chilling portrayal of Phelan, joined in the chat by tweeting "#PhelanTheLove" and he teased fans by responding with a photo of himself giving the thumbs-up. "Hurry up Connor come back, you had your hibernate kip, finish off the job.." added the Phelan fan. "I'd start watching it again if Phelan had escaped the morgue," said another viewer. Explaining how it could happen they suggested comeback for Phelan in the style of Bobby Ewing, who reappeared in the shower in Dallas after he was believed to be dead. "Picture this: Eileen gets up and hears someone in the shower. She pulls the curtain back and there he is in all his glory; Pat Phelan. 'Morning, love.' Twas all but a dream," they said. When Connor replied with crying-with-laughter emojis, the fan added: "That's what I'm talking about. There could even be the theme tune to Dallas on the radio playing in the background." Phelan went out with a dramatic ending last summer when he was stabbed through the chest by his nemesis Anna Windass during a horror siege at the bistro, and viewers saw him being zipped into a body bag. But he had already led everyone to think he was dead for weeks after surviving a fall off a harbour side and hiding out in a B&B following a showdown with his wife Eileen. Phelan had previously held a four year reign-of-terror over the street, tormenting poor Anna and blackmailing her into sleeping with him. In 2016 he developed an appetite for killing his neighbours when he stood over Michael Rodwell and watched him die as he suffered a heart attack. He took Andy Carver hostage and forced him to shoot his old friend Vinny Ashford before killing Andy himself, then he shot mechanic Luke Britton and left him to die in a fireball. Anna's son Gary is now Weatherfield's resident villain after he caused the collapse of the Underworld factory that killed Rana Habeeb in March and murdered his loan shark boss Rick Neelan then buried him in a shallow grave in woodland.
