I was in HMV in Belfast this afternoon and noticed an updated boxset of the original series on sale, more compact than the original issue, but same contents, no additional extra features. Only difference is a very large Stetson on the sides of the box.

Not sure whether or not this has been released specifically for the 40th anniversary. A little disappointing that more new features couldn't be produced or, as I and others have suggested, a lavish, coffee-table style book by way of a proper retrospective on the show.

It's a repackaging. In the US the show is been re-released on single sided DVD discs for the first time on March 26. Very disappointing that Warner do not consider Dallas worthy of a HD Blu Ray release. wnr1.jpg wnr2.jpg w2.jpg

Do the early seasons look any better than they did when they were first released a dozen or more years ago?

In a nutshell, No. Unless Warner are going to surprise us now, although they never have before.

Surely more of an effort could have been made for the 40th anniversary?

Maybe they're banking on saving everything new for the 50th...but then again maybe they just won't do anything at all if present and past efforts are anything to go by.

Boxes in general annoy me. And the individual seasons don't look like they'd be an improvement on my shelf over my existing set.

Which I just don't get, especially as we have sites like Amazon more than happy to on sell it. It's not like the old days when Warner may have taken a gamble on producing say, 50,000 units and kept their fingers crossed retailers would place the product on their shelves only to see it collect dust.

For goodness sake Warner. Give the people what they want. Employ the services of Patrick and Linda to promote the product. Use social media sites. Make a huge deal out of the upcoming events in Dallas. Anything!

Dallas BDs would be very welcome. I imagine WB want to ensure they've squeezed every last penny out of the DVD buying fans first. After all, this is only around the fourth incarnation of the DVDs.

I like the idea of the individual digipaks within the box, but the inconsistency in the sizes between each season's box looks rather make do. Although since it echoes both the initial individual releases and the previous box set with its varying widths, it could be argued that the Dallas sets are consistently inconsistent. Almost charmingly so.

Besides, since the Knots Landing DVDs ended with Season Two some nine years ago, I can at least be grateful that Dallas is available in its entirety, should I want it.

Warners need to understand a few things here 1) Fans are wanting & willing to pay out for new DVDs/BluRay. 2) Fans are not ready & willing to buy the same product they already have just because it's in a very tacky box. 3) Uncut scenes, bloopers, retrospectives, cast & crew commentaries and documentaries are standard now on box sets yet Warners have yet to add these to any of their discs. 4) Box sets are very expensive and need to bought and paid for in one hit - they therefore put off people who are unsure whether or not to buy one, especially one the size of the Dallas boxet with its high price, they are therefore pricing people out. When I got my DVDs I bought each season as they were released - now people have all seasons to choose from they may as well get seasons 1 & 2 and see how they are. However, if Warners did add lots of extras (and they clearly have them available) both new buyers and existing set holders may well invest.

But as I said upthread, they're probably thinking they need something to have for the 50th to release...or not.

I may have said this before but I'd love to see any deleted scenes, especially any with JR and Sue Ellen and from TNT - someone should be in jail for deleting those scenes.

Unless the scenes or characters were related to Ann, they were considered expendable.

The R2 version only has two different box sizes.
