I came upon a video a while ago, of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra doing the infamous theme tune. Some of you probably have heard their performance before. They start performing the theme tune at 3:57 (towards the end of the video). Here goes:

Jock and Ellie are having after dinner drinks, in the living room of Southfork. They are discussing Bobby and J.R., as well as the family business, (a scene from season 3; DVD - 4, 1980 - '81):

Jock (with his Elvis glasses on) says to Ellie: "What about J.R.? Bobby is running Ewing Oil. It might just destroy him. Now Ellie I always hoped that someday my boys could work together, live together. Now well it's J.R. who's devoted most of his time, most of his life to Ewing Oil. Bobby had time for nothing else except sewing those wild oats of his. J.R. was right here; working in the office, in the fields, anywhere I needed him. Now J.R. is kicked out, me too for that matter. Well now I'm kinda fed up of Bobby's attitude of hands off. It's not what he's doing, it's how he's doing it. Well it sticks in my craw."

Wow, this is a really good orchestral version of the theme, very true to the version used in the series. The venue appears to be the Royal Albert Hall in London so I'm surprised I've not seen this clip before. Thanks for posting it.

The theme tune in any given season is always slightly different from other seasons.

Not a bad rendition but I find the tempo just a little too fast.

Nice. It sounds very authentic to my ears.

I love that they included the additional Season Seven flourish leading into the end (at 5:14 in the video), but what really did it for me was the conductor's enthused leap at the finish.

I never knew that the Dallas Symphony could play the title track of that city's most famous show (O-R CBS Lorimar 1978-91 Dallas) so dadgum well!

I love the Dallas Symphony version, I wish I had it in better quality. This one is good too:

And here´s an organ version for Miss Ellie´s funeral, probably:

And last but not least, this one more faithful to the original, played by the great City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

the setting really brought out the excellent counter line in the trombones. Could have used a hard-driving LA studio rhythm section to pull off the early-seasons disco feel, though!

Wow! That performance by the guy on the organ! :)

The melody in itself is quite simple to play, I used to be able to play it on the piano some years ago and it was not that advanced. But of course with the right arrangements it can be advanced as the guy on the organ proved. I could not play like that. :hat:

In the first symphony clip I enjoyed how we saw which instruments played which part of the theme song as it's not something I think of when I see the opening credits roll on the TV screen. Also it was cool to see the enthusiastic response from the audience. :)
