It should have been a cul-de-sac resident. Making it Chip was an easy cop out. With Kenny, Ginger, and Richard all departing the cast, one of them should have been the killer......

I can see why they did not go that route, though. Laura was already scheduled to become a single mother; it would have been worse for her to also have to explain to the boys that their father is in prison for killing someone. After the way the show had short-changed Houghton and Lankford for their entire run, their characters deserved a happy ending, at least. I don't see Kenny having a motive, anyway, and Ginger? I could imagine the scene being unintentionally hilarious.

You have to admit the scene where Chip paid for his crimes via pitchfork ranks as one of the "Hell Yeah" moments in TV history, though.

Ciji interrupted Kenny in one of his sexy early 80s record boss things.

I loved that Chip was Ciji Murderer. I mean, it was obvious, but it was a great way to bring this annoying vilain character to the next level.

Ginger killed her because she wanted to be the only singer on the show.

I know, but having an original cul-de-sac resident being a murderer would have been awesome.....

I know what you mean about it being exciting to have a regular be the murderer. At the time, I was hoping it was Richard because Chip was so obvious.
However, the quality of the show was so good, and the character driven story was so expertly served, I still loved the whole thing. In retrospect I'm glad they did what they did. Excellent acting and writing cover a multitude of sins.
When it was revealed on Dynasty that Joseph started the fire and on Dallas that Katherine shot Bobby it was a let down in that they were obvious choices and the writing and acting had begin their decline, especially with Dynasty.(Although that Dynasty finale had one great line from Alexis in the burning cabin to Krystle: " This is all your fault! Every time you come into my life something terrible happens!"
I always appreciated that KL, for the most part, didn't dangle silly cliffhangers before the viewer such as placing an established character in a life or death situation anyone with a nickel's worth of common sense knew they would survive. They focused more on how the characters would react. And they did it well.
