That is, something nice that is older than 100 years.

What is it and where did you get it? What's the story behind it? (Or them).

I don't, but I want to buy something. I like the history of really old objects.

    An old writing bureau.....

It was left to us by the previous owner of the house we recently bought and moved into.

There's a date engraved on the back. 1890. It needs some refurbishment. Not sure what it's worth....

it has a little secret compartment inside.... :rolleyes:o_O

Get a value on it before doing any work on it! Added work can bring down the value very much. If it has a decent value, that is.

I think you're right, Emelee.... :) I very much doubt we'll have it refurbished. We like it as it is. There are some cup rings on the top and marks here and there. It's full of character. His Nibbs is using it as his desk.... hence the reason why I didn't include the top in the picture.....? :innocent: it's piled high with papers, letters and general Nibbs' debris..

Some folks are so messy... o_O:D

Our notorious cleaner at work Bertha has a few antiques - her string vest, her Jim Bowen glasses and her pipe!

Some of my jokes are quite old but I'm not sure if they are officially antiques.

The only century-old piece of furniture we have that I can think of is an older rocker my mother inherited from her grandfather which sat for years on the porch of his "mansion" and dated back to the 1880s. But she obtained it in the early-'70s when everybody was "antiquing" everything, and so she painted it with a green lacquer she ordinarily would not have.

And that's how it sits even today.

My mother's Aunt died in the mid-1970s and had a lot of odds and ends in her old house. The only thing my mother asked to keep was an old steamer trunk, which she thought would look nice in her living room. It's still there...and she says I can inherit it eventually. It has to be at least 125 years old. We found it full of old clothes (which were falling apart and got tossed out) but she'd lined the bottom of the trunk with fashion magazines from the 1920s. Even at my young age I thought they were fascinating and kept them in plastic bags--the young historian in me, I guess. So I kind of inherited something from Aunt Elyse as well, though they're only as valuable as curiosities. Most libraries don't see the value in "pop culture" type periodicals. Some of them will be hitting the century mark in the next five/ten years.

I was clearing out the attic a few weeks back and I found an old painting and a violin. I thought they might be valuable so I took them to a nearby antique dealer.

Mo - I found this painting and violin in my attic.

Antique dealer (examines the items) Well, you know what you've got there, don't you.

    Mo - no, what ?

Antique dealer - what you've got there is a Rembrandt and a Stradivarius.

Mo - are you being serious ?

Antique dealer - no doubt about it.

Mo - how much are they worth ?

Antique dealer - not a lot.

    Mo - eh ? Why not ?

Antiques dealer - well, Stradivarius couldn't paint to save his life and Rembrandt made terrible violins.

I own Linda Gray's pearls from The Graduate. Her actual pearls @Mo Mouse - not sure if they're antique. But they will stay with me. Even in death.

Probably? I don't have the date for anything, but I guess in the 2020s my dinner table + chairs will turn 100 at some point as it was my great grandfathers that he bought sometime in the 1920s.

It’s hard sometimes @Mo Mouse to distinguish between a woman’s love for her Mouse and a total love affair with a woman she can never have.
