"Emmy winner Donna Mills, who spent 14 seasons playing the scheming Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner on the long–running primetime drama Knots Landing, will star in The Colony Theatre's upcoming production of Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy.

Directed by Tony Award nominee Heather Provost, previews will begin November 2 prior to an official opening November 4 at the Burbank, California, venue. Performances continue through December 10.

Mills, an Emmy winner for her work as Madeline Reeves on General Hospital, will be joined onstage by Broadway veteran James Leo Ryan and stage and screen actor Arthur Richardson.

In a statement Mills said, “I am so honored to get the opportunity to play the iconic role of Daisy Werthan. I am beyond thrilled to be onstage and to show audiences my take on this character, which is so different from my roles in film and television.”

Director Provost added, “It’s so exciting to relaunch production at The Colony Theatre by revisiting this beautiful play and working with the incredible Donna Mills. The story and the issues the play examines continue to reflect the current times.”

Driving Miss Daisy takes place in the 1940s through 1970s at the height of the Civil Rights movement. The play explores racial tensions when a warm friendship evolves between an elderly Jewish woman and her black chauffeur. It won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Admission is $39, and tickets may be purchased online at colonytheatre.org or by phone at (866) 811-4111. The Colony Theatre is located at 555 N. Third Street (between Cyprus and Magnolia) in Burbank."

It's strange to think of Donna Mills as being old enough to play Daisy but then I checked her age and she's 76 which is only a few years younger than Jessica Tandy was when she played the role in the Hollywood film.

I just saw this play today! :)
I'd say it's definitely worth going to Burbank to see it. The play was wonderful.
Donna was great in the role of Miss Daisy. She's a great actress who said a lot with her facial expressions and also the way she spoke was very different from the way she normally talks.

Also I was fortunate enough to meet Donna after the show. She was super nice and wrote me an autograph and also posed for photos with me and small talked some. She had friends visiting with her today. So at first I thought she might not come out. But she did and I was very lucky since I got to meet Ted and Joan too!!! :spinning:

They were super nice too and also wrote autographs. Also seeing the three of them together was totally surreal and not something I had expected. But it was like a dream come true and I am so grateful to the three of them for making my day or even year. :thank:

I will write more about the play when I get home. Just wanted to share this with you all.

Thanks for sharing @micmic watching those clips brings back great memories. :)
Also I hope this means that you went to see the play?

I think it was really excellent. That last scene totally gets to me. It reminds me somehow of my grandma at the end of her life when we had to spoonfeed her too. So it did strike a chord with me and felt very real somehow. Yet it's a beautiful scene and a touching moment that shows the love between Miss Daisy and her best friend.

I didn't film anything from when I watched the play. I didn't think it was allowed. I didn't even think it was allowed to take photos until they said "no pictures with flash" before the play began so I did take a few photos. :)
