Starting this weekend I thought we could look at your favourite albums by your favourite artists. Unlike the current Top Ten thread, I don't expect this to go on forever because there's not enough members and artists who have a string of albums that everyone will have.

We will do this weekly, with a new artist every Sunday.

If you don't have all the albums, or like @Willie Oleson who doesn't buy albums in general, you could still take part by listing the albums based on the singles you've loved that have been released from each album.

I will be randomly choosing artists to cover based on the knowledge I have with you guys. In some cases it may only be a couple of members voting, either way, I thought it would be interesting to see people's lists.

I originally planned to build this in with the current top ten, however seeing as we've covered some big (Soap Chat) favourites like Elvis, Abba, Steps & Madonna I thought a spin-off would have been the better option.

    Compilations Albums

I wasn’t too keen on including these, however, I feel that many members will likely have more compilation albums than owning each of the studio albums and believe we should include them. After all, in many cases, it’s the compilation albums that sell really well.

For our first outing, we will go with a favourite for everyone (well nearly everyone)

    Abba
    [IMG]

Abba have released 8 studio albums and 7 compilations all of which qualify for our top ten.

List your favourites here and we will see which one tops the poll.

If you’re not a regular buyer of studio albums, then take a look at the singles you have loved and make a list based on your favourite singles if you were to buy one or two of the albums, you probably would go for the ones with your favourite singles on them.

Here’s a list of all Abba songs and albums released

I'm going to stick to the studio albums and compilations officially released during ABBA's reign.

    1. Super Trouper
One of the first studio albums I remember playing over and over again. I vividly recall my Mum buying this and us getting home that rainy afternoon to settle down for that first play. Now, as then, it didn't disappoint.

An interesting collection that perfectly links their previous album's sound (Lay All Your Love On Me; On And On And On) with the more reflective territory they would explore in the next (Happy New Year; Our Last Summer). The devilishly catchy title track feels like it would have fitted on some of their mid-Seventies albums. Then there are ABBA's trademark quirky songs with themes ranging from psychiatry (Me And I) to folk tales (The Piper - actually a bloody brilliant song). And not least some of their finest ballads (The Winner Takes It All; The Way Old Friends Do). Diverse and eclectic while still being cohesive and polished. This perfectly encapsulates everything ABBA is*.

    * Or should that be "everything ABBA are"?

    2. The Visitors
Dark, poignant and fuelled with creativity. Perfectly fitting for ABBA's "adjö" to their fans... and each other.

    3. Gracias Por La Música
The magic is still there - in some cases even more so - when they perform their hits in Spanish. This is just charming.

    4. Voulez-Vous
It's so ABBA to arrive at the disco party after it's ended and call everyone back on to the floor for one more little bop. And it's equally ABBA that everyone goes home happier for it.

    5. The Singles: The First Ten Years
The name brings a lump to my throat. They never made it to eleven, but what a legacy this contains.

    6. Greatest Hits Vol. 2
The one that gave the world Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! is the first ABBA album I was aware of, thanks to it being in my Mum's collection. The name; the cover; the running order - this one fills me with nostalgia. But I'm pretty sure I'd love it regardless.

    7. The Album

It it a studio ABBA album? A time capsule? A movie soundtrack? An ersatz greatest hits? An eclectic mix of pop hits, ballads, showtunes and general weirdness? Well, yes to all of the above.

    8. Arrival
This is hit and miss for me, but the hits are spectacular enough for that not to matter.

    9. ABBA
As with Arrival, some of the songs don't appeal, but that's easy to overlook which shows they were doing something very right.

    10. Greatest Hits
Worth the entry fee for the cover alone!

I only own one ABBA compilation album now, ABBA The Definitive Collection from 2001. It's a compilation of all of their singles in chronological order. I have since got all the original albums in a box set too. I'll need to think this over.

I have all of their original albums on CD as well as one of their compilation albums. :)

Now let's take a moment to think how I would rank them:

    1. Voulez Vous
I love the disco vibe to it and I definitely listen to this album the most. It was also one of the first I heard as my dad had a copy of it on cassette tape. :)

    2. Super Trouper
The Winner Takes It All and Super Trouper and Happy New Year as well as Me and I are some of my favorite songs from this album.

    3. The Visitors
Some excellent tracks, Slipping Through My Fingers comes to mind first...

    4. More ABBA Gold
My sister has this one on cassette tape. Once our mom accidentally threw it into the washing machine with her jacket and amazingly the tape still plays even after being washed!

    5. Love Stories
My piano teacher gave me this one for my High School graduation.

    6. Waterloo
Love the clothes on the cover and songs like Hasta Manana, Dance while the music still goes on...

    7. ABBA
It has Mamma Mia on it and some other great hits but it's a rather uneven album...

    8. The Album
It doesn't seem to have a red thread. The best song on it is Take A Chance on Me in my opinion...

    9. Arrival
Love the photo of the helicopter and that you can sit in one just like it at the ABBA museum and take photos! ;)
It has some unusual songs too...

    10. Ring Ring
Their first album. It has some great songs but it's very different in style from their later albums. My favorite song on it is probably Disillusion.
