[IMG] ... I posted the song in the 'Whats Your Favourite Song?' thread. I've just searched that thread and its not there so it must have been on the old forum.

Thats a great idea though Willie, to give 'Sound Of Silence' the SC Standards treatment :D @Mel O’Drama I don't think 'Sound of Silence' is on the 'Standards List' so when you have time please could you add it, thank you.

Well...it is typical that I thought of Sound Of Silence (realizing it wasn't the "S.O.S." I was looking for) while I was looking at your list.:cool1
Portishead's SOS sounds good for a movie, I like the "madness" sound.

The results are in for S.O.S.
    And they're exciting!!

Four of us voted on seventeen versions of this song. Our winner may not be unexpected, but there's a little twist to it, which I'll reveal further down.

But first, let's reveal our favourite versions...

    1. ABBA - 40
    2. Abbacadabra/Hazell Dean [Matt Pop Remix] - 24
    3. Agnetha Fältskog - 18
    4. Erasure - 17
    5. Kit Rolfe - 14
    6. Jessy K - 9
    7. At Vance - 8
    8. Fozzy / The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - 7
    9. A*Teens / Les Blue Belles - 6

It's a major win for the original this round.

Not only this, but... ABBA received the full ten points from every voter, which means they have scored A SOAPCHAT STANDARDS FULL HOUSE!!! This is an feat that only two other artists have achieved: Johnny Mathis (for When A Child Is Born) and Idina Menzel (for What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?). So thanks to your votes we've made history once again.

    Our next Standard is...
I've Got You Under My Skin

Suggested by @Emelee, "I've Got You Under My Skin" is a song written in 1936 by Cole Porter and introduced in the MGM musical Born to Dance, in which it was performed by Virginia Bruce. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song.

It became a signature song for Frank Sinatra. He first sang the song on his weekly radio show in 1946, as part of a medley with "Easy to Love". Ten years later he recorded a swinging big-band version that built to successive climaxes on the back of an arrangement by Nelson Riddle that was inspired by Ravel's Boléro. Sinatra usually included the song in his concerts thereafter.

Sinatra re-recorded "I've Got You Under My Skin" in 1963 and again in 1993 - this time a duet version with Bono of U2.

In 1966, The Four Seasons had a top ten hit with the song.

Neneh Cherry's hip-hop interpretation of the song in 1990 reached #25 in the UK Singles Chart. Cherry replaced most of the lyrics with a rap on societal reactions to AIDS. Of the original Cole Porter lyrics, she kept only the first four lines and "Use your mentality, wake up to reality".

The song has been interpreted many hundreds of times. Some of these include:

Judy Garland (1947); Bing Crosby (1947); Peggy Lee (1953); Dinah Washington (1954); Ella Fitzgerald (1956); Shirley Bassey (1959); Eartha Kitt (1962); Julie London (1965); Sammy Davis Jr. (1968); Gloria Gaynor (1976); Diana Krall (1999); Jamie Cullum (1999); Perry Como (2004); Carly Simon (2005); Michael Bublé (2005); Michael Bolton (2006); Cliff Richard (2009); and Rod Stewart (2010).

Over two hundred and seventy versions may be found here. Let us know below which ones you like and together we'll come up with a definitive favourite.
Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of three choices - single song entries won't be counted. You're welcome to list more than ten, but only the first ten will be counted, with the maximum ten points going to your #1 choice.

Everyone's welcome to join in. Let's say we'll close the voting on Monday night, but as there are a lot to listen to, just shout if you'd like a bit more time.

    The results are here...
Time to find out which versions of I've Got You Under My Skin are deep in the heart of us.

Four of us voted on thirty two versions by thirty one different artists. It was a low scoring round due to the amount of versions chosen, which worked out as an average 80% unique songs. All the same, our winner was a clear one. Here's how Soap Chat chose...

    Our next Standard is...
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)

Suggested by @Long Lashes, "Running Up That Hill" is a song written by Kate Bush and appearing on her 1985 album Hounds Of Love.

Originally titled "A Deal With God", EMI were hesitant to release the song due to the title. As Bush explained:

Bush relented and changed the title. The song's given title on the album and subsequent releases is "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)"

Bush's rendition was released in the United Kingdom on 5 August 1985, becoming the most successful of her 1980s releases. Entering the UK chart at #9, it peaked at #3. The single provided Bush with her first US chart hit since 1978.

The song has been critically acclaimed. In a retrospective review, journalist Amy Hanson wrote: "Always adept at emotion and beautifully able to manipulate even the most bitter of hearts, rarely has Bush penned such a brutally truthful, painfully sensual song."

Bush would record new vocals for a 2012 remix based on the 1985 12" extended version. This new version premiered during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation released their cover in 2003. The song debuted at #9 in the Dutch charts and peaked at #7 a week later.

Placebo's cover appeared the bonus disc of their 2003 album Sleeping With Ghosts. More downbeat than the original, their version made an appearance on the debut episode of The Vampire Diaries, and was also used in CSI, Bones, Stargate: Universe, Queer As Folk, The O.C., and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Electronic band Chromatics' 2007 cover was stripped back considerably and made heavy use of electronic drums, synthesisers and breathy vocals, effectively re-imagining the song in the style of Italio Disco.

Norwegian metal singer Jørn Lande recorded a hard rock version in 2016, stating in an interview that he hoped to pay homage to the original artist, while creating a "strong alternative version to enjoy."

Over seventy versions may be found here. Why not take a peek and let us know your favourites.

Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of three choices. Single song entries won't be counted. You're welcome to list more, but only the first ten will be counted, with the maximum ten points going to your #1 choice.

Everyone's welcome to join in. Let's say Tuesday night as the closing date to have our votes in. Enjoy!!
