So did I. But on peach Dynasty anything goes, so what can surprise us? If Jeff Colby started having an affair with Anders tomorrow, I would just yawn. On DYNASTY, if Alexis and Blake did even share a kiss (while not amnesiac) jaws would drop.
True after watching one episode of the new Dynasty the impression I was left with was that it felt like a parody of the original show. I am sure that's not what they are aiming for. But that's how it came across to me. I think a part of it was that JF and JC played Blake and Alexis straight. They took the characters seriously no matter how much camp it was. On the new Dynasty the cast portray it like it's camp. Also watching that Blake and Alexis scene when they get it on the magnetic pull and electricity that was in the air when JF and JC kissed on screen is sadly missing.
Some members have said that it is a pastiche (not the term they used, I forget what it was). A reboot is fundamentally a risky idea. Either you are slave to the original, or you veer away so far that nobody accepts it as connected to it. Battlestar Galactica is the only one that comes to mind which put the original to shame. But they had a clear re-imagining. The peach Dynasty's idea was "hey, let's turn some characters Hispanic and some African-American and see what happens. Also, everyone should be bitchy."
I’ve not watched any of season 2 and to be honest I’m not sure I’ll return to it, NuDynasty seems more frustrating than 80s!Dynasty l, because you’d think NuDy would learn from the mistakes the original made, I might check it out again but tbh.....I’ll stick with RIVERDALE ;-)
The problem with O.Dynasty was that they were no longer "minding the store" (to quote JF) and only focused on ratings and profit. There weren't many (if any) storylines or characters that I didn't like, the frustrating part is what they didn't do with it. There was a lack of creativity, focus and progress - and all it took was just a little more effort. It's like watching the ingredients of a delicious cake, but no-one cares to mix them, let alone to put it in the oven. That's not the case with NuDynasty, at least, not yet.
Yes, with peach Dynasty the mix is in the oven, but the ingredients include materials for pizza, cake, lasagna, and ice cream. Each could on its own be great, but they just don't all go in at the same time.
I think that's why I had such an unfavourable reaction to new Dynasty when it began. Fallon in particular was in my sights from the get go. Her smutty mouth wouldn't last the sentence in my local pub as she would be on the receiving end of a Donna Krebbs right hook. But why did the writers go all out bat crazy with every character being a turd? Little wonder Nathalie Kelley didn't last long when the writers decided to have Cristal spread-eagled on the Carrington desk. Say what you may but I'd imagine most initial viewers tuning into new Dynasty were old fans having a peek into what this reboot would offer. I stuck with the first season and things began to improve towards the end except the introduction of Alexis, played by Nicollette Sheridan, which was wrong on so many levels. That said the characters began to settle but then we heard Nathalie let the cat out of the bag prior to season 2 beginning...whoopsie. Still I stuck with it and actually I began to enjoy Fallon in the return season. She was away from her family and Atlanta and was actually enjoyable to watch. But then there was that episode with the family in Paraguay? I questioned myself. Why am I watching this piece of fluff? So I've moved onto other things.
It's like what will prob happen with "The Conners" - granted both shows are subpar, and there really isn't anything better to watch, but the expense of the show's aren't worth the effort because ratings aren't that good. It all comes down to $$$, not anything else, and these shows are "burned."
You sound so optimistic. What gives you that idea, did i miss anything lately on the episodes? Or are you just in general a very optimistic guy even in apocalyptic times?
Yeah, I am optimistic, now I've finally figured out "how" to watch NuDynasty. (hallelujah) But that has nothing to do with it, I was only saying that, whatever it is that doesn't work for NuDynasty is not the same as what didn't work for O.Dynasty.
In the rest of the world, the show has to do the work to win over the viewer, but that's your prerogative.
NuDynasty hasn't won me over, I just found a way to avoid getting tangled up in a web of unfulfilled desires, misinterpretations, exhausting self-pity and queenie bitch drama.
I'm happy you find something in new Dynasty Willie. I just don't have the energy to even suspend belief for 40 odd minutes. For me it's not even silly fun and I have a good tolerance for stupidity otherwise I wouldn't have lasted the distance with TNT Dallas.
I wouldn't compare DYNASTY to THE CONNERS ratingswise. After 5 episodes, THE CONNERS is still ABC's #1 show. It'll be a little while till it's not worth the effort. https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/abc-2018-19-season-ratings/ By the way, ROSEANNE quickly deflated during its 9-episode run in the spring (season finale was the lowest rated episode). So, I also don't think the show would be doing that much better, had Barr stayed on it. https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/roseanne-season-10-ratings/ Yes. Though, if original DYNASTY aired today, most people would probably yawn one way or the other.
Well, put the first three seasons of DYNASTY in front of someone who has not seen them, and I highly doubt they will yawn. If anything, Downton Abbey, which was a show with a lot less things happening, was quite the success in many countries. So, shows with stories still work, unlike what the CW and some others puts on for their ritalin target audience.
