On Amazon Prime I saw, that season 5 is available in HD for download...does anyone know anything
Thanks for the heads-up. Amazon Prime does seem to have S5 available in HD.
What's unusual is that both the SD and the HD versions cost $19.99 per season (though there is a clear price distinction on per-episode basis). I hope that doesn't indicate an error.
Also, S5 doesn't seem to be available in HD in any of the iTunes services that have had seasons 2, 3 and 6 since the summer (the UK, Australia - the US still offers nothing past S4).
I haven't been able to obtain S5, but I'll keep an eye on the source where I got the other three.
Would be greeeeaaaat
The source I mentioned has just added the season 5 episodes and they're in 1080p, but I don't think I'll be getting them as yet - each file is 4.8 GB (about 140 GB for the entire season). That's just too big of a size per 46-minute episode. I'll wait to see if they appear in 720p and what size they'll be in that case.
The season 2, 3 and 6 episodes we got in the summer were all about 1.5 GB in size for 1080p and a little less for 720p files (for which reason I chose the 1080p files, as there was negligible difference). I wonder if this ginormous size has something to do with the original source - Amazon Prime, or the uploader.
Well... it's season 5 ... where the show went waaaay over the top.
I asked the guy about the size and he said "That's Amazon Prime for ya." So, I guess we'll have to wait until the S5 episodes are offered in HD by iTunes.
I'll try to download one or two of them - I think I'll go for "That Holiday Spirit" and "The Royal Wedding" - and see if I can make them smaller, but retain the crisp quality of the picture.
I'll post some screencaps, as always.
In case you don't see the images (I seem to have trouble seeing them in 1 of the 3 browsers I use), perhaps clicking directly on these links can help:
Why did they cover the name of the author of that book? Was that black thingy over the name in the older versions of that episode as well?
Here's the original cover of that book:
Nice catch! I checked the DVD version and it's also covered.
They'd probably have to pay the author is they showed the name.
The food, furs and diamonds were real and yet they won't afford to completely show a simple book for children.
Not even all of that was real either. But solid gold foot rests on Alexis's Perspex barstools. I mean sweet Jesus! When La Mirage didn't even have a window!
There is a possibility the culprit here is CBS/Paramount who now own the rights and release the DVDs. Maybe the author was originally visible. CBS/Paramount is notoriously stingy with their DVD releases. Look how they butchered the 90210/Melrose soundtrack.
Which episode/scene was this? Maybe someone with old recordings could have a look and maybe even post a screenshot here?
Just a few weeks ago i threw all my old self recorded DVDs with the german TV-airings away.
Yea and something like that doesn't really bother me. I don't really care about seeing the author. Though having music replaced on DVDs would be annoying. That is if you knew what the original sounded like. When I started watching Melrose Place for the first time on DVD I didn't really notice that they replaced all the songs. I just thought they picked crappy music to begin with until I read here that they replaced all the popular songs of the time with generic musac.
Very annoying. I recall the original music used in many of the scenes very well and the new musac completely ruins the feel and the tone. And I recently caught some TV airings on the CBS Drama channel and they used the DVD version of the episodes.
15 years ago SoapNet in the US still aired the proper episodes, as evident by bootleg recordings (I suppose because by that point CBS/Paramount still hadn't put their paws on them). At least DYNASTY doesn't have that problem.
Speaking of which, I bet CW's DYNASTY will be using popular music, along the lines of The O.C. and GOSSIP GIRL.
