Thanks to CBS Drama, I am watching the show again.
The early episodes of the season are very good (though Claudia's sending away was botched) but while Adam was introduced in an intriguing way, and the tension with Blake and Fallon was set up well (even Krystle had a good role to play), Adam's instant transformation to a villain ("drugs"--please) is as laughable as Alexis' instant transformation to a finance wiz coming up (just as she was talking aloud after Cecil's will she was admitting she "knows nothing about these things"). Also, I hadn't noticed how painfully bad John James is as an actor even that early. I thought that was a later thing. Now I am thinking they HAD to write Emma Samms' Fallon as a hausfrau to match his ridiculous facial spasms.

Season 3 is an odd season, one I tend not to get overly involved in, I think its more self aware this season, hence the wildly bizarre changes we see.

Personally I prefer season 4, since from start to finish it got 60% of its aim's right, season 3, while certainly better than seasons 7-8 was far more fraught and tense than any other season for me, it seemed clunky in parts, especially with Fallon and Mark, Adam was probably the best thing of that season, a worthy replacement for Cecil

    I dunno
I've always wondered if their original intent was to have Adam replace Steven (without the homosexuality looming over the character), hence him being "nicer" and not, well, a complete sociopath in his introduction.

No--and I am not sure CBS Drama is in HD. It is not in my feed.

I always thought it meant...well, something else. I mean, it usually happened when Miles was around. But eh...never mind.

Rarely can you pinpoint to an episode when the writers and execs lost their heads, but S309 "Acapulco" may be it. Exactly five episodes ("The Will") after Alexis had said in her monologue to Cecil that she doesn't know anything about getting revenge on Blake in business and the world of oil, now she told Adam she knows more about Colbyco than he does. Hypnopaideia anyone? Meanwhile Krystle has her bizarre "I am still married to Mark" pre-menopausal crisis and after daydreaming of Mark bellows to Blake "I Love you, I really do." John James has to show anguish from the toxic poisoning and thank God they can put fake sweat on him for that prop is the only thing different about his face. Joseph has a good scene with Kirby in the kitchen, but the bigger mystery is--did the rest of the staff die? Nobody is to be found. And Mark (terrible choice of an actor--the epitome of a 70s porn star) acts like such a jerk, it makes Krystle's concern for her make her even more of an idiot. Pamela Sue Martin is the only one standing out in this episode, though I must say John Forsythe does a good job too. And despite what I know from geography, it turns out Indonesia is in the north pole and has 6 months of night, for the only stock footage the show can use is from pitch dark.

Maybe that was their original plan at the end of season 2 (remember he was to have been introduced even earlier in season 2) but he went psycho so fast my head was spinning.
