What do you think defines these ladies as Earth, Wind, & Fire?

    Who's your favorite and why?

I liked Laura, but she seemed to be out of the loop after a little while.

Circa 1988 I recall a Radio Times Soap Box article (the very first one if memory serves) that described the trio as "flesh, spirit and the Devil".

Laura is "Water", the fourth of the ancient elements. I think it's appropriate as it signifies her ability to settle in anywhere - the cul de sac, Lotus Point and The Sumner Group as well.

An interesting theory, for sure. As I said, I liked Laura, especially the post-Richard version of the character. I believe she worked best when paired with Greg.

I've often thought of Karen as earth, Val as wind, Laura as water and Abby as fire. When all the essential elements are in place the show works beautifully; when they aren't it throws off the show's energy.

"Knots Landing" Earth, Wind & Fire also makes me think of this:

I wish someone would sync up the season five opening with this.

Laura (as water) was always at her best when putting down fires.

Laura is the fiery FIRE, of course. The core that allows everything to keep spinning, and yes sometimes that happens in the background. But how often do we think about our planet?
"I've never seen the ocean" refers to Karen. Like a waterfall, she's an endless force of rose-colored opinionisitation (see you at the I've Learned Something New Today thread).
Valene is EARTH, she told herself she was flat and that's how people used to think of our planet. In 1995 (circa) it was discovered that the earth isn't flat at all. Thank God Knots Landing didn't have to retcon that.
Abby is (H)AIR according to the SoapLand battles, and she's often surrounded by seagulls, the Knots variant of the evil black raven.
