After spending some time making 3 different top 20 lists, I decided that this below was the best one. It's with 20 favorite artists of mine. The current 20 favorite songs list got old real fast. In 3 months, I'd probably go "what was I thinking?". 20 songs from favorite artists of mine won't get old. I may want to make additions later on though, when I get new favorites. Yes, I know, no additions, no backsies.

I have added songs in Swedish. I have so many favorite Swedish favorites, so bear with me.

    Here we go..............................

Vi Kommer Aldrig Att Dö - Bo Kaspers Orkester

"Write a book that everyone reads, give money to a fund, make a song that every kid sings whenever summer comes around, design a collection of clothes, name a weapon after you, be the secret in the perfume that beautiful women wear... We will live forever, we will never die, we will live forever, we will never die..."

Ballad In The Dust - Cornelis Vreeswijk

Very rare hearing him in English, enjoy.

Benen I Kors - Lisa Ekdahl
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZErDuwUDe8M
"I don't want to explain myself, don't want to stand up for my ideals, not explain myself, don't want to be difficult or slippery, so what do I want? it's easy to see, I just want to sit here with my legs crossed, and why do I want this? it's not hard to see, it's because you're sitting by me of course"

I'm so glad you included some Swedish language songs in your song choices because I really like listening to music that's not in the English language. Overall, all but one song was new to me and there are some really nice ones in your selection.

    My top 10:
    1. Wolf - Jennie Abrahamson
    2. Statements - Loreen
    3. Ballad In The Dust - Cornelis Vreeswijk (for some weird reason something about this song reminds me of 'The Time They Are A Changin' by Bob Dylan even though it's completely different!)
    4. Spider's Web - Katie Melua
    5. Off To The Races - Lana Del Rey
    6. Did It For The Fame - Sabina Ddumba
    7. Touch Me - Weeping Willows
    8. Vi Kommer Aldrig Att Dö - Bo Kaspers Orkester
    9. No Rest For The Wicked - Lykke Li
    10. Jag Kommer - Veronica Maggio

Great. I was a bit worried that everyone would be like "uh! I don't understand what they sing, I don't want to vote for that crap!".

I noticed a little blunder in your vote though....... I adore Cornelis Vreeswijk and love to see him score points here, but I think this is against the rules:

Based on the comments on these forums I got the impression that European language in music wasn't so popular in English speaking countries.
Hence why "A Far L'Amore Comincia Tu" had to become "Do It, Do It Again".
I guess it's understandable since they are used to music/lyrics they understand.

But to non-English listeners, especially in the 60s/70s/80s, English was also a foreign language.
There's no difference between not-understanding French and not-understanding English.

I guess that's one of the reasons (or in this case, a non-reason) why French, Spanish and Italian music was so popular in those days (in Holland and Belgium).
Nevertheless, I don't recall many (if any) original Nordic hits.
German has some appeal (sometimes), but Dutch, Scandinavian and East-European languages aren't very beautiful imho.

I love this thread and to see your top 10 lists, as this nomination round where you freely pick 20 personal favorites feels more "intimate", in lack of a better word. It feels like I've opened up part of my inner self and you have respectfully taken part of it. I love to see what songs of my choosing for you to listen to works the best, especially to see those that I didn't hold much hope for are doing better than expected. I am very glad that you are not rejecting songs because you can't understand the lyrics or artists you have never heard of etc. Not any "I've heard of that artist before, so I'll just put that as number 1". You have taken the time to listen, and judged the songs without prestige, without predetermined attitudes etc. That makes me glad, and also very interested to see all lists from 1 to 10. It is also why I appreciate this member in focus idea of yours @Ome even more. I really hope that I will have the time to participate in all others' focus weeks.

This has been a fascinating project, to get into Emelee’s musical world and if I had more time in my life, I would probably end up buying albums from all these artists.

I have no idea what Lars Winnerbäck was singing, but the voice and style remind me so much of The Levellers.
Laleh has a lovely soothing voice and I even heard something similar to the ‘Singing Nun’ in her track.
Lisa Ekdahl very much reminds me of Fairground Attraction from the 80s.

Here’s what I found to be my favourites

    1. Wolf - Jennie Abrahamson
    2. För Dig - Lars Winnerbäck
    3. Ted - Rebecca & Fiona
    4. Goliat – Laleh
    5. Jag Kommer - Veronica Maggio
    6. Benen I Kors - Lisa Ekdahl
    7. 747 – Kent
    8. Instant Repeater '99 - The Soundtrack Of Our Lives
    9. Touch Me - Weeping Willows
    10. I'm Going Slightly Mad – Queen

Thank you Emelee, not only for giving me a glimpse into your musical life but also for giving me some great songs to use when we do the ‘Songs in a Foreign Language” nominations :D

Thanks for sharing your choices, Emelee. All of them were new to me, and I had fun discovering some new sounds and artists.

    1. No Rest For The Wicked
    - Lykke Li
Since you introduced me to Wounded Rhymes, Lykke always makes me think of you, @Emelee, so I'm glad this one's here. This is a lovely looking video. I'm very fatigued at the moment and the visuals here are very close to expressing how I feel this morning.

    2. Benen I Kors
    - Lisa Ekdahl
This has a happy vintage feel to it. Very welcome indeed.

    3. Goliat
    - Laleh
The sound along with the English lyrics you posted and the hopeful video made sure this one reached me. Beautiful.

    4. Spider’s Web - Katie Melua
I'm not too familiar with Katie's material outside of the one that everybody knows. Hearing her here makes me think I need to explore some more of her work. She has a really nice, unique voice (well... unique if you don't count Cerys Matthews).

    5. För Dig - Lars Winnerbäck
The sound and pictures are really nice and once again your English translation made this one come alive for me.

    6. Wolf - Jennie Abrahamson
The changes in tempo and rhythm throughout made this one sound really interesting. It feels like several songs - all of them agonisingly familiar.

    7. Touch Me - Weeping Willows
I enjoyed the raw, live sound. The video was quite... unexpected. Especially at 8am.

    8. I’m Going Slightly Mad - Queen
Quirky fun that also sums up how I feel some of the time. :D

    9. 747
    - Kent
Love the guy's sexy singing voice and the vintage spy thriller video.

    10. Ballad In The Dust - Cornelis Vreeswijk
The juxtaposition of jaunty sound and melancholic lyrics is a winner for me.

    Recap:

    1. No Rest For The Wicked - Lykke Li
    2. Benen I Kors - Lisa Ekdahl
    3. Goliat - Laleh
    4. Spider’s Web - Katie Melua
    5. För Dig - Lars Winnerbäck
    6. Wolf - Jennie Abrahamson
    7. Touch Me - Weeping Willows
    8. I’m Going Slightly Mad - Queen
    9. 747 - Kent
    10. Ballad In The Dust - Cornelis Vreeswijk

@Emelee, do you remember the Swedish song you've nominated a few years ago, it was synth-pop or new wave, late 70s/early 80s? and you said it was a Very Big Hit (in Sweden).
The old threads don't have the video links anymore.
