Also, has anyone else noticed that viewers these days seem to be obsessed with bringing back past characters. Characters from the past are only brought back if they have relevance, and not just for nostalgia purposes. The 1990s ran without hardly any returning characters.
Emmerdale and EastEnders are bad for this. I do not like returnees full stop. And I do NOT want any more Dingles returning.
EMMERDALE FARM (7th December 1988). Stephen Fuller is laid to rest, Joe and Kate decide it's picnic time and Mark Hughes falls in love with older woman Sandie Merrick. Quite the Jacob Gallagher of his day.
Sandie was Jack's stepdaughter and Mark was Joe's stepson , so yes. To add further controversy, Mark is also Joe Tate's late uncle, and Robert is technically Joe's step - second cousin. Confusing family.
Yeah the Emmerdale families are all interwoven, like EastEnders families are, on that show I’m pretty certain Liam Butcher is the one character, nearly every EE character is related to, so I wonder which character in Emmerdale is related to the most characters? Probably Sarah and Jack, since they’re Dingle and Sugden hybrids not to mention that their step-relatives include the Tate’s, and the Blackstock/Lambert clan and those two families alone are related to several other families, Years ago in the mid 2000s someone did do an Emmerdale family tree showing how the Hughes family are related to the Glover’s and how they themselves relate to the Hope family via Windsor’s who in turn are related to the Tates also and they are connected to the Sugden family via the Hughes family and so it goes It’s a shame Sandie never stayed on in the 1990s I think she had a lot of potential to being a main stay character of the era, I can see her getting involved with Chris Tate at some point during that decade, and Mark Hughes, by the time of his early death his character was just really starting fully develop he was moving from his wild teenage image into a mature hard working adult, perhaps even a marriage between him and Sandie say circa 1995.
Here’s the Emmerdale family tree, just bear in mind this has gotten a lot bigger in the subsequent years since this doesn’t include the King’s, the Sharma’s, The Barton’s and the White’s yet
I know that there are a few people on here who lead dull sort of lives and probably want to know all the details of what Priya and I got up to last night - not going to happen I'm afraid. It's private and I really don't want everyone getting their kicks imagining what we did and what positions we experimented with. What happens in the sauna and jacuzzi stays in the sauna and jacuzzi so you'll just have to satisfy yourself some other way, guys.
The current Maya and Jacob storyline is getting a grilling from a majority of viewers, but some of the older viewers seem to forget that it's simply a role reversal of the Kelly Windsor and teacher Tom Bainbridge storyline from back in 1996 and 1997. Only with younger male pupil and older female teacher.
1988 was when Emmerdale was first shown in Christmas week. I believe that to mark the occasion a big plane disaster was planned, but subsequently abandoned out of respect for Lockerbie, which was still very much in the news at that time.
I wonder who they planned to kill off back then in that aborted plane crash storyline? Probably Jackie Merrick since he was killed off months later, Matt Skilbeck even.
It's been confirmed that Amy Wyatt, daughter of Kerry, is returning to Emmerdale soon. Played this time around by Natalie Ann Jamieson, taking over the role from Chelsea Halfpenny.
We're many months behind in Sweden and Layla has left (because Roxy is on maternity leave). Can someone update me what Leyla is up to these days? Anything going on with David?
