    A fun show?
Yeah that sounds like something I would have loved to watch. :)

I haven't watched the nuDynasty pilot so I have no opinion on it. But on paper that show doesn't interest me at all.

The 1950s period piece prequel about Blake and Alexis on the other hand... *sigh* I think that's the worst part about the nuDynasty. It's not the show we or the Shapiro's wanted and once it flops it will ruin the Dynasty brand and all chances of getting the prequel show, which I know could have been great. So it's a shame really. :(

I to would like to have seen a prequel regarding Dynasty set in the 50's. In fact, I believe this TV Show lends itself to that era. It would also benefit from that 3 generation aspect that works in these kind of series. Would be interesting to see Alexis first introduction to the Carrington family. I picture Blake's grandmother to be prudish, rules the Carrington family and mansion with an iron fist.

I can't say I'd be all that interested in a prequel either, except maybe as a one-off telemovie like Dallas: The Early Years.

If done in, say, MAD MEN style, it might work. It's got to be better than a nuDynasty remake.

TNT Dallas had no heart. They cast eye candy instead of decent actors for the next generation. It shit on the legacy of the original. Cliff was not a bad guy, even in the original. He became obsessed with the Ewings because he blamed them for what they did to his family. But he gradually came to his senses and mellowed. Remember that scene with Miss Ellie where he told her that the Barnes/Ewings feud was over? A heartfelt scene like that could never have happened on the revival, which inexplicably made Cliff some sort of evil monster.

I have to disagree about the next generation actors. Because I think what Dallas TNT had going for it was great casting. I especially love Josh Henderson as John Ross and Julie Gonzalo as PamBecca. I think those two could have carried the show if given half the chance.

So IMHO the weakest link in the Dallas TNT production was the writing and their lack of understanding of what made the original Dallas a hit.
Dallas was a family drama. Not a crime drama and to take it too far in that direction was a mistake.
Also Dallas humor came from within the characters and their relationships with each other. Not from stunt events like grannies snorting coke.

And if they'd only explained certain things -- does Cliff have a brain tumor, maybe? But nothing was ever explained.

Josh Henderson was great casting though, amongst the younguns...

Although I had never seen it before! The classic soaps also tried - successfully or not - to be groundbreaking, every now and then.
    I absolutely loved Judith Ryland.

He surprised me the most. I only knew of Josh from his brief appearance on Desperate Housewives. It was a calculated risk selecting Josh to reprise the role of John Ross rather than have Omri Katz return. Omri owned that role as a youngster.

I'd add Jordana Brewster to the mix - a lot of people didn't like her, but she did the best with Elena who was a bit Pollyanna Wants Revenge.

The weak link was the key character - Jesse Metcalfe. You can't have Christopher played by a weak actor like he was! The minute he was cast I knew it was a mistake. He was awful on Desperate Housewives, especially when they did the five year jump and had him play a successful version of the hot gardner.

Couldn't the same argument be said about the actors chosen for Lorimar Dallas? Patrick and Victoria come to mind. It all comes down to writing and direction and TNT Dallas was sorely lacking in both departments. Besides, even the great actors can make turkeys. Let me think for a moment...Robert De Nero in Dirty Grandpa. Really Robert? Your stellar career comes to this?

Both Patrick and Victoria (aka Eternally 29) grew into the roles - but I guess this is also an issue of continuations/reboots. The new actors have to be good from the start. See how bashed Cristal is on NuDynasty based on an episode! Will she ever get over that or will they have to kill her?

Is she really so unlikeable? And would it be possible to re-do Krystle's original character while the other characters are so different?
I think the show should work as a whole, not just one character.
Not sure how to rate the actor, but his performance as Christopher made the character appear smug and sometimes downright unfriendly.
This seems an odd choice for the heroic character, but after a while I began to appreciate this weakness.
There seemed to be some kind of unspoken battle going on, even if it wasn't based on a storyline - almost as if John Ross was "the enemy", no matter what.
And that's an interesting thing to play with.
Being so defensive and eager to point out other people's mistakes is a sign of insecurity, the fact that he wasn't a true blood Ewing definitely had something to do with it.
To be the son of JR Ewing was John Ross' Achilles heel, so they both had issues - and that makes for good soap.

I liked Jesse Metcalfe as Christopher just fine. :)
I think they probably wanted someone who was already a little known for the role.

True but their groundbreaking plots were done differently. Somehow the Lucy being engaged to Kit who was gay, Ray pulling the plug on Mickey comes to mind. Both were wonderful stories with a lot of heart and great writing backing it up.

Granny snorting coke was over in like five minutes and mostly just done for shock value. Sorry but I just couldn't like Judith Ryland. I am sure the actress is good. But I've never seen her in anything else and I found the Judith character so unlikable.

I mean, I agree - Cristal is a re-imagining of a character at this point. She's not Krystle but a new take. Like how you can think of a film, movie or tv series version of Alice in Wonderland (my favourite book) in different ways. Is there a right or wrong? Or just better and worse versions of it?

Maybe it'll end up working probably it won't. But it's like the new Bea on Wentworth versus the old Bea on Prison Cell Block H.

You put a lot more effort in it than the writers I'll give you that. He just sucks, hence why they gave him that pointless race car storyline.

He was killed off for a reason. Make way for Lucas - hopefully a well-cast character who can stand up against John Ross.

Yeah but killing off Chris right before bringing in Lucas would have been another missed opportunity storywise as just imagine all the tension beween the brothers. I mean Bobby chose Chris over Lucas. Can you imagine what kind of storylines the brothers could have shared if done right?

Guilty as charged. I have never even heard of that show before. But I guess from the girl's hair that it's an 1980s show.

The only 80s sit coms I've watched are The Cosby Show, Full House, Growing Pains and most of Family Ties.
