    CHAPTER ELEVEN

Sue Ellen didn't like the look on JR's face. "Why?"

"Don't fly off the handle. I had someone follow Nicholas and look into his background," JR admitted.

To JR's surprise, Sue Ellen kept quiet but she was obviously distressed but not mad. He proceeded to tell her what Bum found out.

"The last thing Bum texted was that he couldn't stay there any longer. He said there were FBI agents swarming the house. He didn't see Nicholas come out before he left."

"Thank God you had Bum follow him, but is that all he knows. I'm so scared. I talked to him yesterday before he left."

"Left? You mean you know he was in trouble?" JR asked.

"Yes. Promise me you won't say a word to anyone," Sue Ellen said.

"Of course. I promise, darlin," JR answered. She told him everything about Nicholas and his family.

JR shook his head and said, "Christ."

Sue Ellen began to sob. "JR, what am I going to do?"

"It's going to be okay. I don't know what else we can do, except wait for Bum to get in touch with me. He knows a lot of people at the FBI that he keeps greased."

"If Nicholas is dead...I…" Sue Ellen began.

"Sugar, don't say that. Look, go take a shower and just relax. We'll eat breakfast, and act like nothing's wrong. I’m sure Bum will call me soon."

Sue Ellen took a deep breath. She looked down momentarily and saw the empty vodka bottle not far from her feet. She quickly said, "Okay. I will knock on your bedroom door when I'm ready."

When JR left the room, she picked up the bottle and threw it in her duffel bag before taking a much needed shower. The hot water soothed her body but she still wanted a drink.

    ****
JR just finished getting dressed when Bum called. He immediately picked up and said hello.

"Hey JR, I just talked to my contacts. The news is not good. Pearce and his father are dead."

"Oh my God, that’s horrible. What the hell happened?” JR asked.

“It seems that while under the witness protection program, someone in the mob saw Nicholas in Las Vegas and recognized him. Needless to say, they tracked them down and killed Joseph Lombardi with a bullet to the back of head, and they strangled Pearce,” Bum said.

“Poor Sue Ellen, she is going to crack,” JR told him.

“JR, I managed to send one of my contacts the video I took. It was more evidence they needed against the Mancini crime family. They arrested all of them, including the men who killed Lombardi and Nicholas. My contact said they won’t be causing a problem anymore. Besides, the mob didn’t know about Sue Ellen, so she has nothing to worry about,” Bum explained.

    “Thank God,” JR said.

“Two FBI agents will stop by Sue Ellen’s house tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Lombardi told the FBI agent about Nicholas marrying Sue Ellen but I will make sure that the file on her is eventually lost,” Bum assured him.

“Great work. I’ll make sure I’m home with her. Well, keep in touch,” JR said, and hung up the phone. He had no intention of telling Bum that Sue Ellen knew about Nicholas’ family.

    ****
A knock on JR’s door signaled it was Sue Ellen, and she walked in. “Sue Ellen, I just got a call from Bum but I don’t want to tell you about it here. We have to go to your house.”

“My home? But Nicholas told me not to go there for any reason,” Sue Ellen said.

JR walked slowly toward her and put his arms around her waist. “Darlin, do you trust me with your safety?”

“Yes, of course I do,” Sue Ellen said.

“Then we need to leave Southfork, and go to your house. Okay?” JR told her.

Sue Ellen had no choice. She knew JR loved her, and would never put her in harm’s way no matter what their relationship was like. She nodded in agreement. “I need you, JR. I trust you with my life.” A teary-eyed JR held Sue Ellen in his arms for a few minutes before they went downstairs.

Sue Ellen and JR told everyone that they were going into Dallas for breakfast but they headed to her house instead. JR was in deep thought while Sue Ellen drove them in her car.

Oh Sue Ellen, how in God’s name am I going to tell you Nicholas is dead?

    CHAPTER TWELVE

When Sue Ellen and JR walked into her house, he tried to small talk first. “This is really nice, darlin.”

“JR, please don’t beat around the bush. Sit down,” Sue Ellen told him.

"I spoke to Bum again,” JR started. Sue Ellen braced herself; she was prepared for the worse.

“I hate to have to tell you this. I’m so sorry.” Sue Ellen took a deep breath; her heart sank.

“It's Nicholas...he...he's dead. His Father, too,” JR said his hand in hers.

“No! No! Nicholas! Oh my God!” Sue Ellen screamed. She got up and paced back and forth, tears in her eyes.

JR went over to Sue Ellen and took her in his arms. She cried uncontrollably for a few minutes then asked, “How, tell me how?”

"He was strangled. His Father was shot," JR said, somberly.

Sue Ellen could scarcely breathe. She closed her eyes and uttered, "Oh, my sweet Nicholas."

When she calmed a bit, JR told her exactly what Bum explained to him. “If they tell you the truth, you have to act like you have no idea about any of this. The FBI is coming here tomorrow, and Bum assured me that you don’t have to worry about the Mob, and the only thing the FBI knows is that you were married to Nicholas; that’s all.”

“I still can’t believe this is happening. I loved Nicholas so much. He made me happy,” Sue Ellen said, and broke down crying again.

JR felt helpless but he vowed to take care of her. “Sugar, I’m here for you. I’m here.” They went back to the sofa and JR held her until she calmed down.

    Two hours later

Sue Ellen drove JR back to Southfork. Before going in, they talked for a few minutes.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay here?” JR asked.

“No. Thank you. I need to be alone,” Sue Ellen said. She didn’t want to tell him the reason why.

“If you change your mind, let me know,” JR said.

“I will,” Sue Ellen said, and she kissed his cheek.

“Call me when you are home safe,” JR said. Sue Ellen agreed, and then sped away.

    ****

“Where’s Sue Ellen?” Miss Ellie asked.

“Sue Ellen wanted to go home. She said she’ll be back in a few days,” JR told her.

"Why, what did you do to her this time?" Clayton asked, angrily.

JR shook his head and shouted, “Nothing! Stop assuming I'm always doing something wrong. I'm sick of it. I love Sue Ellen, so shove it, Clayton." He stormed out of the living room and went up to his room.

    ****

After buying a new cell phone, Sue Ellen headed straight to the liquor store. She bought a bottle of Ketel One vodka, and convinced herself that would be enough to get her through the night. She was already shaking, the addictive lingering taste still on her tongue and lips from the night before.

Instead of calling JR, she texted him. Hi, I’m home safe.

JR wanted to talk but he respected her wishes, and texted back. Okay. It’s going to be alright. Don’t forget I’m here for you. I love you.

Sue Ellen managed a broken smile. Even though she had nothing to eat all day, she had no appetite for food. Instead, she poured herself a much needed glass of vodka. She thought of Nicholas, and the more she did, the faster she drank until passing out on the couch.

    CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Sue Ellen had the foresight to set the alarm on her phone. After a few cups of coffee, and a hearty breakfast, she managed to be ready for the FBI agent that rang her doorbell.

“Yes, can I help you?” Sue Ellen asked, after opening the door.

“Excuse me, ma’am. I’m with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Are you Mrs. Sue Ellen Pearce?” Agent Walter Prescott asked, and showed his badge.

Sue Ellen appeared shocked. “Yes, my goodness, why are you here?”

“May I come in, Mrs. Pearce?” Agent Prescott asked.

“Sure, I’m sorry. Where are my manners?” Sue Ellen stated.

“It’s about your husband, Nicholas. Did you know that he went to San Antonio yesterday?” Agent Prescott wanted to know.

Sue Ellen thought she better at least say he told her he was going out of town, figuring they could easily get phone records, and no doubt had his cell phone.

“Nicholas didn’t tell me exactly where he was going. He just said he’d be back today. He goes on a lot of business trips. I only remember him mentioning San Antonio once.”

“Well, he was there last night. I’m sorry but your husband is dead, ma’am,” Agent Prescott said.

Just hearing, once again, that Nicholas was gone sent Sue Ellen into a frenzied crying spell. Agent Prescott was sympathetic and let her take her time to compose herself. When she asked what happened, he didn’t tell the truth.

“Your husband was involved with a drug deal that went bad. He was murdered. Apparently, he had been dealing drugs with the local mafia,” Agent Prescott said.
They can’t even tell me the truth.

“Oh my God, it can’t be? I don’t believe this. Nicholas would never…I…mean…Sue Ellen sobbed…where is my husband? His body?”

“I’m sorry Mrs. Pearce, but your husband was involved very heavily. It doesn’t matter how much at this point. That’s why the FBI is involved and not the local police. His body was flown to the morgue in downtown Dallas. If you’ll come with me, I will escort you there to make a positive identification.”

“Oh God, I’m sorry. Can you give me a moment alone?” Sue Ellen asked.

Agent Prescott agreed and as he walked toward the door said, “Take your time. I will be right outside.”

“Thank you. I appreciate it.” Sue Ellen said.

Sue Ellen took a deep breath. She thought about texting JR but figured it wasn’t a good idea at that moment. She grabbed her handbag and walked out the door.

    Southfork

JR paced back and forth in his bedroom until he received a phone call from Bum.

“Hey, what’s going on?” JR asked.

“Sue Ellen just went into a car with the FBI but I’m not sure where. I’m tailing them right now,” Bum told him.

“Do you think they are taking her to identify Nicholas’ body, or are they taking her somewhere to question her further?” JR inquired.

“I doubt they are going to interrogate her, JR. You are probably right saying she has to claim Nicholas’ body. They are heading into Dallas. Call you later.”

Oh darlin, I wish I was with you.

    ****
    Dallas County Morgue

Sue Ellen thought she would scream as she walked down the corridor and into the area to identify Nicholas’ body. She was escorted by Agent Prescott. He held her hand, and she couldn’t help but notice how comforting he was trying to be. When they pulled the cover down, Sue Ellen stared at his still handsome face. She began to shake then turned away.

“Is this your husband, Mrs. Pearce?” the Coroner asked. Sue Ellen nodded her head yes, unable to speak. She filled out some paperwork and arranged for Nicholas’ body to be sent to Nelson’s Funeral Parlor in Braddock County.

Agent Prescott took Sue Ellen back home, and also gave her Nicholas’ cell phone, wallet and wedding ring that were in a sealed bag. He offered her his condolences.

“Mrs. Pearce, it is not customary but here is my card. My personal cell phone number is on the back. If there is anything that I can do for you, please let me know. Again, I’m so very sorry,” he said, sincerely.

“Thank you. I appreciate you kindness,” Sue Ellen said. She managed to smile. He waved goodbye and drove away.

    ****
Sue Ellen called JR as soon as she went inside. JR answered. “Hi, darlin, are you okay?”

“As best as I could be, JR. I need you to do something for me,” Sue Ellen asked.

“Anything, sugar. What do you want me to do?"

“Nicholas’ body is being taken to Nelson’s today. I am too distraught to make any funeral arrangements. I…I want to respect his wishes. He always told me he wanted to be cremated, and didn’t want any type of service. Can you handle that for me?”

“Of course I can, Sue Ellen. Don’t worry about anything, okay?” JR said.

“Thank you, JR. If you come over tomorrow morning, I’ll tell you everything that happened. I want to be alone again tonight.” Sue Ellen told him.

“Sure, darlin. I’ll come over about 11 o’clock. I love you,” JR responded.

“I…I love you, too,” Sue Ellen said and hung up the phone.

    CHAPTER FOURTEEN

"I spoke to my contact and he confirmed that everything is fine. Sue Ellen is not in any danger," Bum told him.

    "Thank goodness," JR said.

"Do you still want me to tail Sue Ellen for a while?" Bum asked.

JR thought about it and answered, "No, it's not necessary any more. Come to my office on Tuesday at 1 o'clock. I’ll have the money for you. Thanks for doing a great job. I won’t forget it, Bum."

"You’re welcome, see you then, JR."

JR started his car and went on his way to see Sue Ellen. Even under the circumstances, he couldn’t wait to see her.

    ****

    11:05 a.m.

Sue Ellen groggily woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. It was JR. She answered, “Hi," as she let go of the empty glass still in her hand.

“Darlin, are you okay? I rang the bell and knocked on your front door,” JR told her.

Sue Ellen looked over at the clock and jumped up. She realized she had told him to come over at 11:00. “I’ll be right there, JR.”

“Oh Lord,” Sue Ellen uttered. She grabbed her robe then went to open the door.

“Hey, darlin,” JR said. Sue Ellen smiled and kissed his lips quickly.

“I’m sorry, JR. I overslept. I should have set my alarm,” Sue Ellen explained.

“No problem, Sue Ellen. I wondered what happened. Well, as long as you’re alright,” JR said, thankfully.

“I'm okay. Come into the kitchen with me. Would you like some coffee?” Sue Ellen asked.

JR followed her and said, "No thanks. I heard from Bum again, and he confirmed that you have nothing to worry about.”

Sue Ellen let out a sigh of relief. “Did you tell him that I knew about Nicholas?”

“No, of course didn’t. I’d never tell anyone, even Bum,” JR said.

“What do you think we should say to Miss Ellie and everyone else?” Sue Ellen inquired.

“Exactly what the FBI told you. By the way, what did they say?” JR wondered.

“Well, they didn’t tell me the truth. Basically, they said he was a drug dealer, and he was murdered because of a deal gone bad. I didn’t question anything. I just acted surprised but I was still overcome with emotion and...I…"

“Oh JR, I’m not okay. I'm a friggin’ mess. I miss Nicholas so much. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.”
Sue Ellen put her hands over her face.

When Sue Ellen started to cry, JR got up from his chair and took her in his arms. “It’s going to be okay, darlin. Please try to stay strong. I’ll take care of you,” he said, and gently stroked her hair.

After a few minutes, Sue Ellen calmed down. “I don’t know if I can stay here anymore. It reminds me too much of Nicholas, and how happy we were.”

“Darlin, I have to ask you something. I know this isn’t the best time but let me start by saying that I never stopped loving you," JR said, lovingly.

"Oh JR, I know that, and I love you. What do you want to ask me?" Sue Ellen inquired.

JR caressed her face. "Will you marry me, Sue Ellen?”

A shocked Sue Ellen asked, “JR. I just lost Nicholas. How could I possibly think about marriage?”

“I know. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked but if you marry me again, I swear on my Daddy’s grave that I’ll be the husband you always wanted,” JR told her.

Sue Ellen’s tears returned. “JR, believe me when I say, if I ever married again, it would be you, but I can’t. I grieve for Nicholas too much. I loved him.”

JR took comfort knowing that he still had a chance in the future. “I understand darlin. I won’t pressure you but come and live at Southfork anyway. I know the family would love to have you back, especially John Ross and me,” JR said.

Sue Ellen smiled. She didn't have to think long. “I’d like that very much. You know I love living at Southfork, and being with John Ross everyday would surely ease my pain.”

“Then it’s settled, darlin. When do you want to move in?” JR asked.

"Not yet. I need you to tell Miss Ellie and everyone about Nicholas. Give me a few days to get situated, and put my house up for sale,” Sue Ellen told him.

“Of course, darlin. Please tell me you'll think about giving me another chance,” JR said.

Sue Ellen looked into his eyes. “I promise I will.” They went into the living room. Before JR left he smiled then said, “I love you,” and walked out the door.

An emotionally fragile Sue Ellen couldn’t believe JR asked her to marry him. She decided to take a shower, get dressed, and then go into Dallas. She first poured herself a cup of coffee, then immediately dumped it. The hell with the coffee, I want a f***ing drink!

Yikes! JR does have the sensitivity of his father's bronco bull like Sue Ellen once told him. Lol

Talk about chosing the wrong moment to ask her to marry him again. Also I am surprised he didn't notice that Sue Ellen was drinking again. :(

    CHAPTER FIFTEEN

    Dallas - 1:30 p.m.

Sue Ellen decided to go to the liquor store first. She loaded her cart with several bottles of vodka, and her favorite red wine, Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel. One bottle isn't enough.

When she went to her car, she heard someone call out, “Mrs. Pearce.” She turned around and managed a faint smile.

“Agent Prescott, is that you?” Sue Ellen asked.

“Yes. I’m off duty so please call me Walt. How have you been?” he asked.

“I really miss my husband, even though I still can’t believe how oblivious I was to what was going on,” Sue Ellen told him. She made a point to keep him thinking she hadn’t a clue about Nicholas. She wondered if Walt really knew the truth, or if that is what his superiors told him.

“I’m sorry. I really am, Mrs. Pearce,” Walt said, sympathetically.

“Thank you, and please call me Sue Ellen. You don’t have to be formal either,” Sue Ellen said, with a smile.

“Can I help you with loading your car? I see you have a lot to put in your trunk,” Walt inquired, his eyes looking in her filled to capacity cart.

“Oh yes, thank you. I appreciate it,” Sue Ellen said. She noticed that Walt only had a six pack of Heineken beer in his hand.

“No problem. Again, if there is anything I can do, don’t hesitate to call me. I really meant what I said,” Walt said.

Sue Ellen chuckled. “You have an extremely honest and handsome face. Why would I think otherwise?"

Walt turned red. “Thank you. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to imply you didn’t believe me, Sue Ellen. I hope I didn’t offend you.”

“It’s okay, I’m just teasing. You didn’t say anything wrong, and I don’t offend that easily,” Sue Ellen said. They smiled awkwardly until she told him she had an appointment with a realtor.

“If I need anything I will surely reach out to you. It was very nice seeing you again,” Sue Ellen told him.

“You too, Sue Ellen…um…I hope I’m not too forward but would you consider having dinner with me sometime?” Walt asked.

Sue Ellen looked up from her car and said, “As much as I’m curious to know why anyone would want to be an FBI agent, it's too soon to even consider going on a date.” What is it with men? First JR, now this.

"It won’t be a date. We could just sit on a park bench, eat hot dogs with tons of onions, and I’ll bore you with the story of my life,” Walt said.

Sue Ellen laughed. She liked his sense of humor. “That sounds innocent enough. I haven't had a hot dog in ages." Walt snickered.

    "I guess that's a yes," Walt said.

Sue Ellen shook her head yes. "I will call soon and let you know when I’m free.”

“Great. Talk to you then Sue Ellen,” Walt said, and walked away.

    ****
    Sue Ellen’s house - 6:30 p.m.

Sue Ellen didn’t eat all day. She went food shopping at the local grocery and bought a few items so she could fill her refrigerator. She uncorked a bottle of Zinfandel, and poured it into the Riedel wine glass she just bought. While eating her dinner, she drank half the bottle. She cleaned her dishes, and since it wasn’t that late, decided to just watch television on the couch.

When her doorbell rang, she jumped. She looked through the peephole and noticed it was a delivery man. She opened it slowly and smiled. “Hi ma’am, this is for Sue Ellen Pearce.”

“That’s me. Wait a moment,” Sue Ellen said, and took out some money from her purse for a tip. When she took the beautiful red roses into the house, she assumed it was from JR. She was pleasantly surprised when she opened the card.

It really was great seeing you today, Sue Ellen. Look forward to our hot dog. ~ Walt

Sue Ellen couldn't help but laugh out loud. As much as she enjoyed the flowers and attention, her mind wandered back to Nicholas. Her smile turned into a frown and she finished the wine in one gulp, then opened up the vodka.

    ****
    Southfork – 9 p.m.

JR texted Sue Ellen an hour before to ask how she was, but she didn’t reply. He knew Sue Ellen always had her cell phone close by, so he was slightly concerned. He then called her several times to no avail. Panicking, he dressed quickly and decided to drive to her house. He also called Bum and told him to start following her tomorrow morning.

Why isn’t she picking up the damned phone?

    CHAPTER SIXTEEN

JR rang the doorbell and knocked several times to no avail. Her car was in the driveway and he detected the lights and television were both on. No doubt she was home. He checked to see if any doors or windows were open. No luck. He had no choice but to call Bum to help pick her lock.

"Hey boss, what's up?" Bum asked.

"I want you to come right over to Sue Ellen's. I need you to get into her house. Are you still the best at picking locks?" JR asked.

"Of course, what's going on?" Bum inquired.

"Sue Ellen is definitely home but she won't answer her phone or door. I know you said there was nothing to worry about but I am. Hurry please," JR told him.

"Leaving right now. I will be there in about 15 minutes," Bum said.

JR called her phone and rang her bell repeatedly. Still nothing. He paced back and forth until Bum arrived. When Bum got there, he tried to reassure him everything would be fine.

JR was frantic and said, "Just hurry, Bum."

Within a few minutes, Bum was able to open the door. Thankfully, she didn't have an alarm. JR went in first, and immediately saw her sprawled on the couch. He was relieved but sad at the same time. On the floor were two empty bottles of alcohol.

JR spoke his thoughts out loud, “Oh Sue Ellen, why darlin? Jesus!"

"Don't be too upset with Sue Ellen. Surely, Nicholas' death is what this stems from," Bum said.

"I can understand why but she's an alcoholic, Bum. She doesn't know when to stop. She always runs to the bottle when something goes wrong. It's the same pattern. I feel helpless. She's been sober for a long time. Damn, I wish she never had met Pearce! Look at her; she's completely zonked!"

"I know. It’ll be okay. She needs to sleep it off, JR. Should we carry her to bed so she gets a better night's rest?" Bum asked.

JR thought about it and said, "No. Let's just go. I don't even want her to know I was here. First thing I want to do is erase all of my calls and texts, except the first one." He grabbed her phone, happy she didn’t have a lock on it.

“Poor Sue Ellen. She really must have loved her husband to resort back to this.” Bum stared at her for a moment. She is a beauty.

“Bum, let’s hurry and get out of here. I can’t wait to hear her excuse tomorrow,” JR said.

“JR, don’t you think you should confront her?” Bum suggested.

“I will but not initially. The situation has to be handled right. It will be war if I tell her about tonight, or if I tell her what to do,” JR said.

“I guess you’re right, JR,” Bum agreed.

In the corner of his eye, JR noticed the roses. He asked Bum to wait for a moment. He walked over and read the card. He was livid. Damn, I don’t know who Walt is but I’m sure as hell going to find out!

    ****

    11:45 a.m.

When Sue Ellen finally woke up, she noticed a missed text from JR. “Oh Lord, he must be upset that I didn’t text him back.” She immediately called him.

    “Howdy sugar,” JR answered.

“I’m sorry about last night. My phone died. I…um…forgot to charge it,” Sue Ellen said. JR knew that was farthest from the truth.

“I’m not sure what you mean?” JR asked, playing dumb.

“You texted me last night,” Sue Ellen told him.

“Oh right, I forgot. I was just about to call you anyway. The funeral parlor called, and said they have Nicholas’ ashes. Would you rather I get them for you, then swing over to your house?”

Sue Ellen took a deep breath. She shook a little and said, “No. I will go. Did you tell the family about Nicholas?”

“Yes, and they felt so bad. I asked them to give you a few days before they call. Of course they were shocked, but better they think what the FBI told you rather than the truth,” JR said.

“I agree. I…I don’t know how to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. It hasn’t been easy, JR,” Sue Ellen said, candidly.

“The only thing I ask is that you are honest about how you feel. If you’re down, need to vent, scream or want someone to talk to, please tell me,” JR said and threw in, “and if you need a few hours of lovin, I’m always available.”

Sue Ellen chuckled. “I’m sure you are. You don’t stop trying, do you?”

“It’s a habit of mine,” JR said, then laughed devilishly.

“JR Ewing, you are hard to resist when you laugh like that,” Sue Ellen admitted.

“I’ll remember that, darlin,” JR said, wanting to lighten her mood.

“Ha-ha. Anyway, can you send some of the ranch hands to help me pack. I really want to move into Southfork as soon as possible. You might as well tell your Mama I'm moving back now,” Sue Ellen said.

“Yes, I agree and I’ll call the ranch and get you help right away. I’m so happy you decided to come home,” JR said.

Sue Ellen managed to smile. “Me too and…um…?”

    “Yes darlin?” JR asked.

Sue Ellen answered with three little words, “I need you."

    CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Sue Ellen sat in her BMW X5 a few minutes before going back home. She felt strange having Nicholas' ashes next to her on the passenger seat. Oh Nicholas, I miss you so much. Her emotions got the best of her. Tears flowing, Sue Ellen put her vehicle into drive and sped away. Bum followed behind her.

When Sue Ellen got home, she put Nicholas’ ashes on the mantel of their fireplace. The helpers that JR arranged from Southfork left. Most of her things were gone. Sue Ellen then raced into the kitchen and was relieved they didn't touch her liquor. She opened up a wine bottle and poured it into a glass. She went to her bedroom and packed suitcases of her remaining clothes. She put Nicholas' things in a green trash bag to donate to charity. As she packed, the more she drank. She put the rest of her belongings in her SUV and locked it up.

Sue Ellen didn't want to spend another night at her house and she didn't want to go to Southfork until the next day. She had no intention of driving so she called a cab to take her to a hotel.

    ****
    4:45 p.m.

Bum called JR and said, "I'm parked outside the Braddock Hotel. Sue Ellen just checked in with an overnight bag.

“Why would she go to a hotel when she can stay at Southfork?” JR asked.

“Beats me, JR. Do you want me to stay for awhile or leave?” Bum inquired.

“Stay until I tell you to go,” JR said, and Bum agreed.

JR waited a few minutes before texting Sue Ellen. He hoped she’d get back to him quickly.

Hi darlin, how are you? Would you like to go to dinner tonight?

Sue Ellen just changed into nicer clothes. She was going to eat at the restaurant in the hotel but at the bar. When she read JR’s message, she was hesitant to tell him where she was. She wanted to have dinner with him but her hunger for drink came first.

I’m good. Can I get a rain check for dinner? I look forward to moving back to Southfork tomorrow morning. Goodnight.

JR was disappointed. When she didn’t tell him where she was, he knew she had every intention of getting drunk. He had to make sure she didn’t get into any trouble. If she was at a bar, he didn’t trust what could happen. He told Bum to go into the hotel in 10 minutes, and keep an eye on her. He also told him to report back when he sees Sue Ellen. JR wanted to drive over himself but couldn’t risk her seeing him.

    ****
The hotel was beautiful, recently redone and had a nice restaurant that specialized in seafood. She didn’t need ultra fancy just to stay overnight. Plus she didn’t want to risk seeing anyone she knew. Most of her friends dined in Dallas thus the reason for opting to stay in Braddock.

Once in the restaurant, she opted to sit at the bar. “Vodka on the rocks please,” Sue Ellen said. The bartender poured her drink and placed it in front of her. She stared at it momentarily before placing it to her lips and finishing it in two gulps. She ordered another and asked for a menu.

Bum spotted Sue Ellen immediately. He reached into his phone and called JR.

“Hey it’s me. Sue Ellen’s at the bar and she is already on her second drink. There’s only one other person seated there having a beer.”

“Oh Lord, okay. Just let me know when she goes back up to her room,” JR said, and hung up the phone.

Bum knew that Sue Ellen had never seen him before so he decided to get something to eat. He’d still be able to keep a close eye on her every move. How can I beat a job watching the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen? Well, I can’t.

Sue Ellen made sure she ate something even though she wasn’t hungry. She ordered a few more Vodka’s this time with a twist. It started to hit her but she wanted more. The bartender was concerned and said, “Ma’am you’ve had a lot. Shall I call you a cab?”

“How sweet but I’m staying here tonight,” Sue Ellen answered. She reached into her purse and dangled her key in his face. “See; now please give me another drink.” He did what he was told, and served her another. After finishing it, Sue Ellen paid her bill, and gave the bartender a $100 tip. “Thank you ma’am!” he said, gratefully.

Sue Ellen nodded her head. “I can afford it. I’m rich,” she said and managed to walk out of the restaurant unscathed. Bum took the last sip of his coffee and followed her. She stumbled getting into the elevator so Bum went in with her. She hit floor fifteen. She staggered down the hallway and Bum was right behind her. She had a hard time with the keycard so Bum had no choice except to offer help.

“These stupid room keys are so complex,” Sue Ellen complained. Bum had to chuckle. He opened the door and followed her into the room. She threw down her bag, kicked off her heels, then plopped on the bed and immediately passed out.

Bum texted JR. Sue Ellen just made it to her room. Goodnight.

The more Bum looked at Sue Ellen, the more he envied JR. He respected and would always be loyal to him, but he thought he was a stupid ass for cheating on Sue Ellen so much over the years. He helped her get into the covers and tucked her in before he left.

Bum repeatedly shook his head. JR had the best woman. Why did he ever need anyone else?

    CHAPTER 18

Another bad headache made way to more aspirin. Oh God, this is the worst one yet.

With the realization that she was still in her clothes, Sue Ellen wondered how she made it back to the room. She tried hard but she couldn't remember. One thing that was very obvious was that she had way too much to drink at the bar.

"Oh my God, what time is it?" Sue Ellen said out loud. When she noticed it was 10 o'clock, she jumped out of bed and hopped in the shower. The hotels check out was at 11:00 a.m.

    ****

After a cab dropped Sue Ellen off at home, she took Nicholas's ashes and got in her car. She hooked up her Bluetooth and called JR. He picked up Sue Ellen's call immediately.

"Hello darlin, I was just about to text you. What time are you coming?" JR asked.

"Hi, I'm on my way to Southfork right now. I'll need help with the rest of my stuff," Sue Ellen told him.

"Great. No problem, I'm here. Can't wait to see you," JR said.

"Me, too." Even though she wasn’t over losing Nicholas and struggled, Sue Ellen vowed to do her best to move on.

    ****

Sue Ellen pulled into the Southfork driveway. JR was waiting with open arms. When she opened her car door, he hugged her tight. Even though he hated that she started to drink again, he was so happy she was back home. He would confront her delicately when the time was right.

“Glad you’re here. Your room is all ready for you, darlin,” JR said, excitedly.

“JR, I hope you know how much this means to me. I am forever indebted to you and Miss Ellie,” Sue Ellen said.

“Oh Sue Ellen, do you realize how happy Mama is to have you back. I…I mean we both wish it was under different circumstances,” JR told her.

“I know. Excuse me one second,” Sue Ellen said. She went around the passenger’s side door and reached in for Nicholas’s ashes. She held them close. It didn’t take JR long to figure out what she was holding. He looked at her and said, “You okay?”

Sue Ellen rubbed away a tear that went down her cheek. She managed a half smile and said, “I’ll be better when we go inside.”

JR put his arm around her waist and they walked into the front door. Miss Ellie and Clayton were ecstatic to see her. They offered Sue Ellen their condolences, but also told her how glad they were she decided to come back to live at Southfork.

“Thank you. It means a lot to me. I love you both,” Sue Ellen told them. She paused. “I’d like to go to my room for a bit though.”

JR took her by the hand and they went to her room. First thing Sue Ellen did was carefully put Nicholas’s ashes on her night table. She stood there momentarily then sat on the bed. She looked up and said, “Hold me, JR. Please.”

“Darlin, it’s going to be okay,” JR said. He held her in his arms as she sobbed.

“JR, I…I miss Nicholas so much. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t burden you with my pain,” Sue Ellen told him.

“Nonsense, Sue Ellen. I know how much you loved Nicholas, and I’m glad that he made you happy. I know I never did,” JR admitted, his head down.

Sue Ellen touched his face and said, “We had more good times than bad. When things were good between us, they were the best moments of my life. I loved you, and I still do. Falling in love with Nicholas never changed how I felt about you. Never.”

“I never stopped loving you either, Sue Ellen. I hope you realize that,” JR said. She shook her head and replied, “Of course I do, JR.”

JR pulled her in for a long and sensual kiss. Before getting carried away, Sue Ellen put her fingers on his lips. “Not yet.” He took a deep breath and said, “I understand. I’ll wait as long as I have to. I love you, darlin.”

“And I love you,” Sue Ellen said. JR smiled then stood up. “I’ll give you some time alone to get your stuff situated. I’ll have Raoul bring up your bags. Be back later darlin.”

Sue Ellen took comfort in the familiar surroundings of her old bedroom. She was home, but the desire for the sweet taste and escape of liquor remained.

    CHAPTER 19

When Raoul brought up the rest of Sue Ellen's belongings, she pulled out the liquor bottles and hid them in the closet. She couldn't concentrate on putting her belongings away; the temptation and desire to open up the vodka clouding her senses. Sue Ellen took out a bottle and opened it. She licked her lips in anticipation. She poured some into a tumbler glass, and quickly raised it to her mouth. She drank it down in one gulp. Oh Lord, please help me.

Sue Ellen quickly changed into her bathing suit to take a swim. She had to stop herself from drinking anymore. She hoped a swim would help her jitters to subside. She tired herself out long enough until she felt a bit better, though she knew it wouldn't last all night.

JR pulled up to Southfork and noticed Sue Ellen on the lounge chair. He had roses to surprise her with. He hid them behind his back and approached her. "Hey sexy lady," JR shouted.

Sue Ellen looked his way and smiled. "Whatcha got there, handsome?” she asked.

"Just yellow roses for the most beautiful woman in the world," JR told her.

"Awe JR, that's so sweet. Thank you, my darlin," Sue Ellen said. She sat up as he handed them to her.

Sue Ellen temporarily put the bouquet of roses on the table, next to her suntan lotion. JR sat with her sideways. She wrapped her arms around JR's neck, and kissed his lips soft and sensual. His hands roamed her body and their kisses turned passionate. JR eased her down. He planted kisses on her neck. Sue Ellen nibbled on his ear before their tongues knotted, oblivious of their surroundings.

They stopped abruptly when they heard snickering. It was John Ross. He looked at them with a smile. “My baby,” Sue Ellen said, and she ran over to him.

“Hi Mama, I’m glad you and Daddy are back together,” John Ross told her.

“Well, let’s just say I’m back. Okay?” Sue Ellen stated. She hugged him tight, and winked at JR. “Excuse me; I have to take a shower before dinner.”

JR took a deep breath. He grinned devilishly and said, "Don't worry, your Mama will come to her senses soon."

    ****
    7: 45 p.m.

“I’m so glad you decided to live at Southfork again, Sue Ellen,” Pam confided.

“It’s good to be back but I miss my Nicholas so much. It’s been hard for me without him. If it wasn’t for JR, I’d have lost my mind.”

“Please tell me that you aren’t going to fall for his horseshit again,” Pam said.

“That’s not fair, Pam. JR has been wonderful. I don’t want to get into just how. Anyway, I’m glad I’ll be seeing you everyday again. Maybe we can have lunch in town soon. How does that sound?” Sue Ellen inquired. Pam agreed.

Sue Ellen looked around the room. Everyone had a drink in their hand. She could practically savor the taste from just looking at the rim of their glass.

“Thank you Miss Ellie. That was a wonderful dinner but I think I’ll turn in for the night,” Sue Ellen said. “Goodnight everyone, see you at breakfast.”

JR decided to give Sue Ellen some time. When she was ready for them to make love, she’d tell him. He hoped it would be soon—only being able to kiss her drove him crazy.

    ****
Sue Ellen changed into her nightgown and organized the rest of her stuff. She was finally settled in. She took out her phone and set the alarm. She still had two companies, Valentine Lingerie and Cozy Cupid to run. She texted her secretary and told her she was coming in tomorrow around 10 o’clock, and to set up an office meeting for that afternoon with her Executives.

Sue Ellen was eager to return, and thought it would help ease her drinking. She had several ideas to promote Cozy Cupid. She also wanted to start another company geared toward perfume, lotion and cosmetics. She knew Nicholas was proud of her accomplishments and wanted to continue to do better for herself and him. Oh Nicholas, I miss you so much.

A teary-eyed Sue Ellen began to shake. Unfortunately, her thirst for liquor still remained and she took out the vodka she opened earlier. Before she finished the bottle and passed out, Sue Ellen assured herself that she would stop drinking after her remaining bottles were done.

    ****

    10:30 p.m.

JR knocked on Sue Ellen’s door. When she didn’t answer, he quietly opened it. He was disheartened when he saw the empty vodka bottle on her night table. He sat beside her and kissed her cheek. He had to confront her the next morning, and get her the professional help she needed. Oh darlin, what am I going to do with you?

    CHAPTER 20

Sue Ellen awoke to the annoying sound of her alarm. She hit the snooze button a few times before finally getting up. She looked around the room for the vodka bottle to discreetly throw it away when no one was watching.

"Where the hell is it?" Sue Ellen said, in a panic. She frantically tried to remember what she did the night before. The only thing she recalled was telling her secretary she'd be coming into the office. Sue Ellen realized there was nothing she could do, so she headed into the bathroom to get ready for work. Damn I wanted a few drops.

    EWING ENTERPRISES CORPORATION

"You seem distant today, JR. Is something wrong?" Bobby asked.

"Yes, it's Sue Ellen. She started drinking again. Last night, she was passed out in her bed next to an empty bottle of booze," JR told him.

"Oh no. She'd been doing so well," Bobby said.

"Understandably, Nicholas's death hit her really hard but she can't destroy herself like this. I'm going to confront her tonight. I was going to do it this morning but Mama said Sue Ellen went to her office," JR told him.

"Poor Sue Ellen. I know how happy she was with Nicholas but I agree you have to try and help her. It's good that she decided to go back to work," Bobby remarked.

"Don't tell anyone, Bobby. I don't want to alienate Sue Ellen anymore than I have to," JR said.

"I promise I won't. If you need help, let me know. I love Sue Ellen. She’s like a Sister to me," Bobby told him.

"I know and I appreciate it. Since we are not married, I can only hope she'd agree to go to a private clinic. I’m still in love with her, Bobby. It kills me seeing her like this. It's only going to get worse," JR said.

When JR got teary-eyed, Bobby tried to comfort him. "I know you do. Everything is going to be okay."

    SUE ELLEN'S OFFICE

"It's so good to be back everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome, and positive feedback. I know the future of my company is in good hands. I want a brief report on how everything is going in a few weeks. And, let your staff know that I will be implementing a raise to thank them for their hard work. Meeting adjourned."

Sue Ellen was relieved she handpicked an executive team that thought just like her, and knew exactly what she wanted. They enjoyed working for her, too, which was very important to her. After the meeting, she told her secretary to leave for the day. She locked the door, and opened up a bottle of wine. She drank a glass and put the remainder in her private refrigerator. She decided she should eat something before heading home.

    ****
    BRUNO'S - 1:30 P.M.

When Sue Ellen entered the restaurant, she looked toward the bar but sat at a table. She ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a cup of vegetable soup. She also ordered a Bloody Mary. She perked up when out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Walter Prescott. As he passed by, she yelled out his name and waved him over. “Walt! Walt!”

Walt smiled immediately when he saw Sue Ellen and headed to her table. “Hi Sue Ellen, I’m glad to see you aren’t eating a hot dog without me.” Sue Ellen laughed and said, “Would you like to join me?”

“Sure, I was going solo, too,” Walt said and sat down. He asked the waiter for a filet mignon and baked potato, then a glass of red wine. Would you like another drink, Sue Ellen?” Walt asked.

“Yes, thank you. Another Bloody Mary please,” Sue Ellen said. She was glad Walt didn’t know about her problem with alcohol.

“I’ve been thinking about you, Sue Ellen. How have you been? You look fantastic if I may be so bold,” Walt said.

“I’m great. Thank you. You could have called or texted me. I don’t bite, well at least on the first date,” Sue Ellen jokes.

Walt smiled and said, “I wouldn’t mind if you did.” Sue Ellen chuckled nervously. “Well, I...um...that’ll be our little secret,” Sue Ellen said; her face as red as her drink. She was aware of how handsome he was.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to embarrass you but it’s good to see you smile,” Walt told her. She couldn't help but follow-up with his straightforwardness. “You certainly aren't shy, Mr. Prescott. Is that your FBI training?” Sue Ellen teased.

“It must be, Sue Ellen. I’m glad I came here today. I’m not sure if you would ever have called me. I can understand why though,” Walt sympathized.

“Thanks and since fate gave us a helping hand today, we don’t have to wonder,” Sue Ellen said; they looked at each other without saying a word until the waiter brought their food.

    ****
“It was great talking to you today, Sue Ellen,” Walt said, he caressed her hand. Sue Ellen felt her lip quiver a bit.

“I feel the same, Walt. How about we get that hot dog tomorrow, if you’re not busy?” Sue Ellen asked.

“I’d love it! I have a few days off in-between assignments. Is 1 o’clock good? I’ll meet you in front of this restaurant and we can walk to the park. It’s not far from here.”

“It’s a date. See you then, Walt,” Sue Ellen said, as they went outside. He kissed her cheek. “Bye, Sue Ellen.” Sue Ellen was definitely tipsy but aware enough not to drive. Her car would have to stay parked in her office building. She hailed a cab and went home.

Sue Ellen was grateful Walt showed up and saved her from getting too plastered. She really enjoyed his company and stared unabashed at him. He reminded her so much of Nicholas with his raw animal magnetism. Damn he’s sexy.

    ****
When Sue Ellen arrived home, she told Teresa to inform JR she’d be in her room and wouldn’t be eating dinner. She spent time with John Ross before he and Christopher went swimming.

Once in her room, she closed the door. She opened her liquor and poured a glass not caring if the family would think something was wrong. With Nicholas still on her mind, she needed an escape from her memories.

    ****
When JR got home, he was greeted by Teresa. She told him that Sue Ellen got home about a ½ hour before. He jolted upstairs and knocked on her door.

    CHAPTER 21

When Sue Ellen heard the knock she said, "Whoooo...who is it?" Her speech was slightly slurred.

Oh Lord, JR thought. "It's me, sugar," he said.

Sue Ellen gulped down the last of her drink. "JayArrrr, come in."

JR opened the door to find a sprawled out Sue Ellen on her bed; the empty bottle next to her. He shut the door behind him and sat on the edge.

JR took hold of her hand. "Darlin, you shouldn't," he told her. She looked up at him and said, "What?"

"Drinking. You have to stop. You know you can't…"

Sue Ellen put her hand over his mouth. "Shh, let's make love." She pulled him closer and kissed his lips passionately. JR briefly relished the moment but pulled back and said, "Darlin, this is not the time. I want you, but not when you are like this. You have to try…" She stopped him again.

"No! Why...why can't we have sex? I...I need you," Sue Ellen whispered; her eyelids heavy.

It was no use reasoning with her. JR held her close, stroked her hair, and told her how much he loved her. When she finally passed out in his arms, he laid her head down on the pillow. He kissed her cheek and stared at her. She was so breathtakingly beautiful. JR broke down and briefly sobbed knowing the inner pain she was enduring.

    ****
After dinner, Bobby went over to JR and asked, "What's really wrong with Sue Ellen? It's not really a headache, is it?"

"No, she passed out again, Bobby. She started drinking early, so I couldn't confront her. I'm going to take off tomorrow so I can keep an eye on her. It seems she does her damage at home. Obviously, she has liquor stashed in her room.

"Poor Sue Ellen. Okay, I'll take care of the office tomorrow. Not much going on lately anyway," Bobby said, and patted him on the shoulder.

    ****
    5:30 a.m.

Sue Ellen slowly began to wake up on her own. She sat up and reached for the water bottle she kept on her nightstand. She was so thirsty. The sunlight was just coming through the sheer curtain of her window. She spotted an empty bottle on her dresser. She had no recollection of putting it there. She sat there a few minutes until visions of kissing JR popped in her head. Nervously, she came to realize what happened. Oh shit, he knows.

Sue Ellen got up, went into the bathroom and took a much needed shower. After awakening her senses from the cool water on her face, she decided to go into JR's room. She put on her robe and slowly crept into the hallway. Quietly, she turned his door knob and went in.

"JR. JR," she whispered and touched his arm. He was a bit startled when he opened his eyes. When Sue Ellen's dazzling smile came into clear view, he was somewhat relieved; she was cold sober.

"Hey sugar, what's going on?" JR asked. Of course he knew.

"Err...um...I don't know. You tell me," Sue Ellen said.

JR got straight to the point. "Come on. You definitely know or you wouldn't be here. I hate seeing you destroy yourself. Why did you start drinking again?”

Sue Ellen saw the worry in JR's eyes. Her voice cracking, she said, "Oh JR, I can't cope with Nicholas's death. I just want to forget what happened. I...I have to drink until I fade into a dark oblivion."

"Oh Sue Ellen, you can't do that forever. Please sugar, you have to stop. I'm here for you. I'll get you the help you need," JR assured her. Sue Ellen knew what JR meant, but she didn't want to go to any type of private clinic. She'd do it herself just like she always did.

"The only thing I need is you," Sue Ellen said, seductively. She looked at him with a flaming desire in her eyes then slowly took off her robe.

"Oh darlin, I…" The flawlessness of her naked body left JR tongue tied. She lay down next to him; his hands gently enjoying the silkiness of her skin. He cupped her breasts and brushed his face against them before claiming her sweet mouth. She whispered, "I need you."

JR wanted her so much but asked, "Are you sure you're ready, darlin?"

Sue Ellen ached for his touch, and the sexual satisfaction she desperately needed. She quivered in anticipation and said, "Yes. I want you."

    CHAPTER 22

Sue Ellen and JR stayed in bed until he had to take a shower. She convinced him that she was fine, and to go to work. “I’m going into the office. You know I’d never drink while working.”

“Okay, darlin but please come right home. We’ll spend the night talking or doing whatever you want,” JR said.

“Sounds great. I opt for more of this, my darlin,” Sue Ellen said. She kissed his lips then went to her room to get dressed.

Since she was meeting Walt for lunch, Sue Ellen made sure she looked her absolute best. She fought the desire to go into the closet and take a swig of alcohol. She quickly went downstairs to eat breakfast.

“You look fabulous today, Sue Ellen,” Miss Ellie said.

“Oh thank you Miss Ellie. I have an important meeting with a client today, and wanted to look extra nice,” Sue Ellen told her.

When JR came down to eat, he couldn't resist kissing Sue Ellen quickly on the lips before sitting down. "Hello family! It's been such a pleasurable morning already." Sue Ellen’s face turned red, and she couldn't help but giggle.

Bobby and Pam looked at each other dumbfounded at first, then a revelation hit them. After breakfast Bobby said, "I told you I heard Sue Ellen. I know her moans by now." Pam laughed hysterically.

Bobby didn't tell Pam about Sue Ellen's drinking or that JR originally told him that he was going to take off. I guess Sue Ellen convinced JR to go to work.

    ****
Sue Ellen spent the morning going over advertising for her Cozy Cupid line. It was 12:30 p.m. and Sue Ellen told her secretary she was leaving for the day. She didn't drink any of the vodka she had hidden in her office.

Sue Ellen walked toward the restaurant to meet Walt. When she caught a glimpse of him walking toward her, Sue Ellen waved her hands so he would see her and shouted his name a few times.

"Hello beautiful lady!" Walt exclaimed. He kissed her cheek.

Sue Ellen smiled. She could only manage to say hi. His extreme good looks leaving her tongue tied; exactly like Nicholas.

Walt put his arm out and said, "Shall we?" Sue Ellen wrapped her arm around his and said, "Let's go."

JR waited anxiously to hear back from Frank, the new private investigator he hired. He didn't always rely on the same person. He thought following Sue Ellen would be simple enough. When the phone rang, JR picked up immediately.

"Hello Mr. Ewing, this is Frank. I've been following Sue Ellen since she went into her office."

    "Is she okay?" JR asked.

"Yes, right now she is sitting on a park bench eating a hot dog and drinking a soda."

JR chuckled. "You're kidding me. What possessed her to do that?"

"I'm not sure, Mr. Ewing but maybe the young man she is with can answer that question," Frank said, sarcastically; though not trying to be.

"Young man? Jeez, is he dressed in a suit?" JR asked, hoping it was just someone from her company.

"No, he is in casual clothing. Looks like shorts, and a form fitting shirt. They seem to be having a good time," Frank told him.

"Hm, I bet they are. How old do you think he is?" JR asked. He was jealous.

"I would guess around 35, Mr. Ewing," Frank replied.

"Do you have any photos you can send me? I want to see who the hell this guy is," JR said.

"Yes I will send them to you right now. His name is Walt. She yelled his name when she saw him approach."

"Walt? Where did I...oh the flower guy. I totally forgot about him. Well, I don't know the connection. Keep an eye on Sue Ellen for the rest of the day until she gets home. Text me later. I want a full report," JR told him.

"Of course, Mr. Ewing. Have a good day."

JR scrutinized the photos. On the surface, it looked innocent enough but he knew that flirtatious come-hither look on her face. Hm, is he an escape too, darlin?

    CHAPTER 23

    SOUTHFORK

Frank parked across from Southfork as Sue Ellen turned into the driveway. He waited about 20 minutes before texting JR, in case she decided to go back out.

I sent you a few more photos a minute ago. Sue Ellen said her goodbyes and the only thing that happened was Walt kissing her on the cheek. Nothing more. She went into her building to get her car, and pulled into Southfork at approximately 4:45 p.m. She is sober. Do you want me to stay until you get home?

JR pulled over so he could read Frank’s text. He was glad Sue Ellen was home safe and not drunk. He prayed she wasn’t already in her room, and guzzling down the booze.

Good work. I am only 5 minutes away. You can leave but I want you to follow Sue Ellen every day unless I say otherwise. Keep in touch.

When JR parked his car in the driveway, he looked at the photos of Sue Ellen that Frank sent. It seemed friendly enough but he wasn’t totally convinced. He decided to let it go for the time being. He was more concerned about her drinking. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Sue Ellen pour herself a club soda while talking with Clayton and Miss Ellie.

    “Evening everyone,”JR said.

Sue Ellen smiled and raced over to him. She kissed his lips quickly then said, “Hello my darlin, I missed you. Can I get you a bourbon?”

“Hi sugar, missed you, too. Yes, I certainly could use a drink right about now,” JR said.

JR could see the surprised look on Clayton and Miss Ellie’s face wondering if they were indeed back together yet again. Clayton gave JR a disgusted look which Miss Ellie did not appreciate. She nudged him a bit.

JR just smiled. He put his arm around Sue Ellen after she handed him the drink. “How was your day, JR?”

“Pretty quiet but my mind is busy hatching new ideas for Ewing Enterprises. I hope your day was more exciting than mine,” JR said. Sue Ellen sat on the couch, and took a sip of her club soda.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I was really busy this morning. I was on the phone talking about advertisements for my new line, Cozy Cupid,” Sue Ellen said, excitedly.

“Oh Sue Ellen, I love the name. It’s a perfect complement to Valentine’s. I know it’ll do well for you,” Miss Ellie told her. Sue Ellen replied, “Thank you. I hope so.”

“No need to hope, darlin. It’s a winner! Were you able to get out for lunch? It was such a beautiful day. I was too lazy to go out.” JR waited for her response with great anticipation.

“Well, yes I had lunch in the park today. It was very pleasant. I really should do it more often,” Sue Ellen said.

“Let’s plan on it together, Sue Ellen. I don’t want you sitting on a bench by yourself,” JR told her. He kept a close eye on her facial expressions. Sue Ellen nervously nodded her head then said, I’d love it, JR.”

Teresa walked into the room and interrupted their conversation. “Excuse me, dinner is ready.”

Even though Sue Ellen wasn’t that hungry, she leaped up from her chair to escape anymore of JR’s questions. Underneath her brave exterior, every fiber of her body yelled for a drink, but Sue Ellen knew she’d have to wait until JR was asleep. She also had a sexual yearning for him that she couldn’t ignore.

    ****
JR went out to his car, and reached for a bag. He stopped at the store and picked up two bottles of non-alcoholic red wine. He hoped Sue Ellen would appreciate the gesture. It can’t hurt, can it?

Sue Ellen saw JR coming in with a bag. “Oh no, what did you buy me?” Sue Ellen asked, with a chuckle.

“Wait, I’ll show you, but first let me get something out of the kitchen. Stay here, darlin,” JR told her.

What could that man of mine be up to? When Sue Ellen spied two wine glasses, she was ecstatic. Nice. Wine will certainly do.

“Come on. Let’s go out on my bedroom balcony. We’ll have a drink, and look at the stars.”

“Oh JR, that sounds wonderful,” Sue Ellen said. They were unaware of the rest of the family’s eyes on their every move, especially Clayton.

“I’m telling you, Ellie. If your son hurts Sue Ellen again, I’ll kill him with my bare hands,” Clayton said, angrily.

“Clayton, please. Your act is getting boring,” Miss Ellie said.

“Dammit, she shouldn’t be drinking, Ellie,” Clayton reminded her, though Miss Ellie knew he was right.

Bobby chimed in since JR had told him what he was doing. “It’s non-alcoholic wine, Clayton so don’t worry.”

“Well I still don’t trust him, Ellie,” Clayton continued, “and that’s the last thing I will say.” Miss Ellie was not convinced knowing how deeply he cared about Sue Ellen.

    ****
When JR and Sue Ellen went into his room, JR put down the wine and began to kiss her sweetly. Their tongues intertwined and JR felt the delicious curves of Sue Ellen’s torso. At that moment, her desire for JR took precedence over her need for alcohol. She whispered sexily in JR’s ear, “Ravage me.”
