What were your favorite albums in 2017?
The first two are easily my most played albums of 2017.
Steps - Tears On The Dancefloor (Crying At the Disco Edition)
Hurts - Desire
The Killers - Wonderful, Wonderful
Niall Horan - Flicker
Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All
Mm, I guess most of the artists mentioned in the 2017 songs thread.
In addition to those:
There was a lot of retro-New Wave and retro-Italo Disco this year (not much nu-Disco I'm afraid. Hopefully next year!)
My three favourites in order of enjoyment...
Synthesis - Evanescence
Stunning! Powerful, moving, rich, intimate, fragile and beautiful. It was only released last month and it's already my most-played Evanescence album since 2003's Fallen. This is THE album of the year for me.
Wonder Woman: Original Soundtrack From The Warner Bros. Television Series - Charles Fox et al
My most-anticipated 2017 album release, which I'd been excited about since it was announced in autumn 2016. The idea of a WW soundtrack has been a dream of mine since childhood. But I never thought it would become a reality. And it was definitely worth the wait. As a bonus, I was able to get a copy signed by two of the legendary composers involved: Charles Fox and Johnny Harris. Like the Evanescence album it's been played a lot.
Tears On The Dancefloor - Steps
The 2017 release I had the most discussion about. In fact it's the Steps album we've been hoping for since their 2011 reunion was announced.
I think it's really only all about this for me...
I haven't only been wanting this since the 2011 reunion. I have been wanting it since Boxing Day 2001. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better album from them.
In no particular order:
Lust For Life - Lana Del Rey
Reverseries - Jennie Abrahamson
Masseduction - St. Vincent (new discovery this week)
När alla vägar leder hem - Lisa Ekdahl
In Winter - Katie Melua
Ride - Loreen
St. Mojo - Sweet Spirit
Melodrama - Lorde
The Halcyon Soundtrack (2017 TV series)
Blue Lips - Tove Lo
So Good - Zara Larsson
Den långa vägen hem - Magnus Carlson
Ease My Mind - Shout Out Louds
1. Wonderful Wonderful – The Killers
2. Forced Witness – Alex Cameron
3. World Be Gone – Erasure
4. Desire - Hurts
5. ÷ - Ed Sheeran
6. Harry Styles – Harry Styles
7. Rule the World – Tears for Fears
8. Evolve – Imagine Dragons
9. Dream Machine - Tokio Hotel
10. Freedom Child – The Script
11. Melodrama - Lorde
12. Little Fictions – Elbow
13. Human – Rag ‘n’ Bone Man
14. Wonderland – Take That
I listened to this one a lot when it first came out and then went off it for some reason.
I forgot these two. They both could have been on my list.
I need to check this album out. I keep forgetting to. I love Rain.
Have you listened to anything from Maroon 5's album that came out this year? It's another one I keep forgetting to check out.
Definitely this one for me:
Melodrama - Lorde
Jump on Board - Texas
Everyday Is Christmas - Sia
Kaleidoscope (EP) - Coldplay
The Architect - Paloma Faith
Pollinator - Blondie
Silver Eye - Goldfrapp
÷ - Ed Sheeran
Spirit - Depeche Mode
Scream Above the Sounds - Stereophonics
I've heard some tracks (Wifey has it), but nothing has grabbed me. I wasn't too impressed with their previous one, it never pulled me in like Overexposed.
I bought this and couldn't get into it. Then seeing your post here and playing "Where's the Revolution" (which I love), I went back and listened again to the album. It still didn't work for me.
Did you get the OMD album?
I never caught it when it came out and say your nomination in the 2017 thread. I'm unsure whether to buy it or not.
I can see why as its not their best album and apart from 'Wheres The Revolution' I've only played the other tracks a couple of times.
Yes and I wasn't so sure at first, but its suddenly growing on me. I'm enjoying 'The Punishment of Luxury' and these two so far...
What Have We Done
I wasn't impressed with their "History of Modern" album and I never bought the follow-up.
But having listened to the two tracks you posted, I fell in love with them and eventually bought the album the other day. It really feels like OMD have gone back to their roots with this one and I can hear snippets of their earlier album "Dazzle Ships" which I loved.
I'm very fond of the title track "The Punishment of Luxury" and even to a point where I can hear the melody of "If You Leave"
for getting me into this album
Now, where did I hear this before?
Oh that's fun!
The music is different of course, Alcazar was more about sample's and mash-up versions, but I thought it was funny that they had used a similar title (albeit unintentional, I'm sure of that).
Pity the album only has the 7th Heaven radio version of "Story Of A Heart", not the full mix. But maybe there will be a definitive ultimate collector's edition featuring the full length remixes
