Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo on "Desperate Housewives", Oscar nominated for "Transamerica") has been taken into custody by the F.B.I. as part of a crackdown on parents who have used bribes to help their children gain admission to prestigious universities. Huffman faces several charges including conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Lori Loughlin (of "Full House") has also been charged but I have not read any reports of her being taken into custody. Loughlin's husband has also been charged; Huffman's husband, William H. Macy ("Shameless", Oscar nominated for "Fargo") has not been charged.

Huffman allegedly paid a consultant $15,000.00 to enable her daughter to cheat on her SATs, the indictment states Huffman discussed the scheme on a recorded phone call with a cooperating witness. One news site states Huffman had her daughter designated as "learning disabled" so she would be allowed additional time to take her SATs.

Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli (founder of the fashion brand "Mossimo") allegedly paid $500,000.00 in bribes to falsify athletic credentials for their two daughters.

Yikes! I had not expected that. I mean those celebrities seems so nice. :(

I can get that parents wants the best for their children but to bribe and cheat for their child to get ahead is not ok.

In the interview of Felicity Huffman on emmytvlegends.org, I couldn´t help noticing that the woman (who I thought was the BEST in the female cast of DH) seemed to be hiding something...I mean, that she didn´t transpire as the same kind of person her character was (if we are allowed to compare both, and we shouldn´t!), and seemed to be colder and a bit strained (maybe she was already scheming behind the scenes...).

Then I watched her in the first two seasons of "American Crime", and her characters were annoying, hypocrite and resentful. Oh and in the second one, she played the principal of a high school who often used "donations" to deal with people when problems arose...Though I must say that, behind that face that used to be so expressive, she managed to give a couple of superb acting lessons.

I can't for the life of me understand why you would want to put your child into an academic institution where they might be way over their heads, just for the sake of saying you went there.

As a fan of Felicity Huffman I am of two minds: on the one hand I am very disappointed that she did this; on the other hand I think she's very smart - she got her daughter into a prestigious college for $15,000.00 while Lori Loughlin spent $250,000.00 per child.

Anyone else hoping for a documentary or TV movie about this - narrated by Brenda Strong?

Loughlin's daughter, Olivia Jade, has lost some lucrative sponsorship deals due to this: she's no longer the face of Sephora or TRESemme' but she is however the face of entitlement.

Seemingly Felicity was "inspired" by one of her own "DH" subplots to get entangled in the school bribe scandal! Reality is bigger than fiction, but sometimes ends with a sadder ending...Now, we have enough evidence that, of all the DH´s, Felicity was the one whose personality is closer to Susan!!

Life really has a way of imitating art for Felicity Huffman.

Authorities have accused Huffman, 56, of conspiring to pay $15,000 to an organization that facilitated cheating on her older daughter’s SATs by having a proctor correct her answers in hopes of getting her into a better college. The actress was arrested and charged with fraud, and was released on a $250,000 bond later on Tuesday.

The situation is eerily similar to one Huffman played out in 2004 in season one of her hit show Desperate Housewives. In the fifth episode of the first season, Huffman’s Lynette Scavo and her husband Tom (Doug Savant) realize they’re going to have to pitch in a little extra to get their twins into a private school.

While the spouses discuss their options, Lynette brings up one way to give their twin boys the edge over other applicants.

“A generous donation will ensure our kids beat ’em out,” Lynette tells Tom.

    “How much?” Tom asks.

“$15,000,” Lynette answers — the exact same amount Huffman is accused of paying to help her own daughter get into college in real life.

According to an indictment obtained by PEOPLE from the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, Huffman has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

The affidavit alleges that Huffman and “her spouse” made the $15,000 donation to KWF. Although she is married to actor William H. Macy, he is not indicted in the case.

Prosecutors allege that dozens of parents — including Huffman and fellow actress Lori Loughlin — paid sums to admissions consultant William Singer and his nonprofit organization, Key Worldwide Foundation (“KWF”). Then, prosecutors allege, the KWF would bribe coaches and administrators to accept the donors’ kids into prestigious college programs.

“Huffman and her spouse made a purported charitable contribution of $15,000 to KWF to participate in the college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of her oldest daughter,” the criminal complaint affidavit reads. “Huffman later made arrangements to pursue the scheme a second time, for her younger daughter, before deciding not to do so.”

Federal court records unsealed Tuesday in Boston name Huffman as one of 50 people who have been indicted as part of the alleged nationwide scheme, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts.
