Last week I watched "Wall Street" for the very first time, and I found out, not that "Falcon Crest" ripped it off in its last season (which I already knew), but that Andrea Thompson (alias Genele Ericson) appears in one scene in the first half hour. She plays a "pro" sent by Douglas´ character in his limo to C. Sheen´s character (I think he probably ended up being very happy with her...). :cool1

In Season 8, Ben's girlfriend was one of the two wholesome girls from high school who hung out with Gabriel and him. A blonde, we only knew her as Andrea ....until her daddy came into the picture several episodes later and we learnt their family name.

I see now that the Season 8 casting folk had a twisted sense of humour, given that actress Andrea Thompson had played a hooker in one of the biggest blockbusters of 1987.

I'm now thinking that the Season 9 casting folk must have had a more warped sense of humour, casting AT herself!

According to imdb, on AT's first day of work as a CNN newsreader after leaving acting, she introduced herself on Headline News by saying: "I'm Andrea Thompson, and unless you've been living in a cave, you probably already know that."

Actually, never having watched Wall Street, I never knew AT had been in that movie until now. I just know her from FC.

When I first saw her on FC, I thought her Genele a vamped up Terry, still up to salacious tricks (such as aiming for her sister's husband) but now emotionally damaged.

She looks like she could be the Cheshire Cat in a very dark version of Alice's Wonderland. Wonder if Genele digs cat food.

Michael is a bit angry isn’t he ?

LOL! Charley has the decorators in, he’s changing the look :floor:

It’s getting closer and closer between Richard & Lauren, I guess Richard has to just avoid another target on his back, I’m sure he’s had more hitmen than J.R. Ewing.

Now what do we have? Sal reappears and helps Richard and then goes to Sharpe offering to snitch on Richard. Now why would Sharpe want his help if he has a hitman on Richard and could Sal be secretly working for Richard?

“My mind is made up Amigo, you die”

I’m getting a little bored with all this stalking Richard, Richard has to die, I want to see what else Charley is screwing up at Falcon Crest.

Richard is turning down an offer from Genele to visit Kevin, yeah and no doubt his future lover Lauren. Sal is hiding behind the curtain if anyone is interested.

What should happen is Richard leaves Genele in his bedroom and Sal then shoots her multiple times, then chop off her hands & feet and lay her on Richard’s bed. His return and finding her should really put the spooks up him.

He’s still hiding behind the curtain, here’s another shot just in case you’d forgotten

I’m loving this dark twisted relationship between Ian & Sydney

“You’re not to talk to Emma anymore and if I find out you have, I shall be very angry”

Bloody brilliant, not only does Charley get the sex-tape of Pilar, he’s sent it to Lance with love from Pilar.

What a coincidence, Emma takes Sydney out shopping and they bump into Chris, that other teen who would be more suited to her. Now all we need is another coincidence where Ian just happens to be driving by…

Sal couldn’t do the dirty deed, so now it’s looking like he could be double bluffing Sharpey boy

"If Michael Sharpe wants war, why don’t you give it to him?”

Too late, Sharpe found the wire…

Oh man, death-by-car for Sal that was wicked!

    S9E08 Luck Wave

Caught in a place she just can’t handle, Emma asks Richard to help run Falcon Crest with her, but he has a much better solution – Sell Falcon Crest to him… I’m not sure what I would want right now.

What a twist with Jace, he’s working with Sharpe:eck::eck::eck:

“He thinks I’m his best buddy”

Walker has lost his job, he doesn’t know how they will afford to raise two boys – why doesn’t he get Lauren to ask Richard for money?

That whole ‘Luck Wave’ was kinda bizarre.

    Oh goody, goody

    “I can’t do it”

    She never signed it over….

These brothers have been quite busy over the years and now they’re about to kill off Emma..

“I’m really gonna miss her Ian”

Walker is starting to do my head in, he needs to go.

Lance is calling Chao-Li, I thought he’d left the show.

Charlie is about to set up Emma for a suicide, wanna know how I know? Because he took the gun out of his pocket, not to look at it, but more about showing the viewer, ya know, just in case we forgot that part of the story from 15 minutes ago.

“Is that a pistol in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?”

Emma is saved by the pregnancy.

    Or is she kidding….?

Ome, if you just knew what "kind" of relationship these two had on the first draft of the script, before Ms. Wyman read it and almost went into a (real) coma!! If you just knew... :eck: :tv1:

Which two, Richard & Lauren or Sydney & Ian?

Can you tell me, or will it spoil the plot ahead?

No I don´t think so...The new writers were clearly high on something when they created some of the new storylines and characters. Ian was initially going to be masochistic and Syd the one who spanked him. Really. :eck:o_O

Oh, dear. I wasn't referring to any Season 9 scene. :confuse:When you mentioned AT was in Wall Street, I looked up her part. It said hooker on imdb. I just thought the casters had a wicked sense of humour: Young Judith Jones in S8 playing a WHOLESOME blonde high school girl called Andrea, with last name Thompson added later vs the S9 casting of a mature actress who was really called AT, but had played a hooker in a movie. ....And, what's more, we've already seen in S9 a blonde high school cheerleader who was underage and a hooker. :) Just observations.

'70s movie Superbitch had a similar scene; more sickening, committed by a gang of sicko bros, one of whom was focused on playing a guitar and singing while it happened, totally unmoved.

I do think the movie, which was mostly an Italian production, supplied several ideas for FC's S9. An overview:

In Superbitch, the guy killed was in the inner circle of an aging drug supplier who was caught in the middle of a war between drug distributors. The distributors were turning on each other & trying to poach each other's suppliers because the cops were disrupting their networks and blocking supply routes.

The major suppliers were scared because rules were, they only supplied to one distributor-paymaster. Now, new distributors were terrorising them into supplying for them. The problem: if they did, then their pre-existing distributor would punish them directly or indirectly in some gruesome way. If they didn't, then they faced the same treatment from the spurned distributor.

The cops didn't quite care about the internal drug fights that resulted from the traps they set.

The aging drug supplier, whose guns had long gone silent, was still in the game because he had been too long in it to get out. But he wanted his people/young staff to have legit jobs and go straight. So he ran a legit, respectable escort agency -- the type that sends young people to take gran shopping or pick up unaccompanied minors from airports and take them to their destinations, etc -- while carrying on illegal backroom operations with the help of a close inner-circle of 3.

One of the 3 was the guy who was murdered. The other 2 were a young woman and her boyfriend.
The young woman was played in Superbitch by Stephanie Beacham.

[Aside: I can see that even though Sable had no dealings with Spiros in Season 1, the Sable-Zack-Spiros storyline in The Colbys has story elements taken from the storyline of the young woman and her boss (the aging escort agency owner/drug supplier) and her boyfriend. ...Which is why I'd have loved to have had more of the Spiros storyline in a TC S3 had there been one.]

At one point in Superbitch, the young woman is kidnapped by the psycho bros for their Mad Mama to put the screws to the aging drug supplier.

The chained up young woman stays awake all night as the mad, guitar-playing son keeps singing the same beautiful and chillingly haunting melody over and over again. It has this line: "I will never let you go." [Zack says the same thing to Sable on The Colbys.]

I feel that TC and FC behaved more like a mutual admiration society over some years. TC borrowed heavily from FC -- dialogue, scene ideas -- and FC would return the compliment. In fact, I just heard a line in FC S9 that comes intact from TC. ....So, because Stephanie Beacham was in the cast of TC, there may have been interest from FC in SB's past work, such as Superbitch.

The ideas FC borrowed from the movie weren't just psychopathic brothers & a death brought about by having dispassionate killers cold-bloodedly murder someone by repeatedly running over them with a vehicle, though.

There was also Ned Vogel's sex-and-business proposition to Pilar. It's similar to the proposition a Johnny-Come-Lately drug distributor makes to the young woman in Superbitch.

[Aside: the back office meeting between the aging drug supplier and the young, contemptuous Johnny-Come-Lately drug distributor have some similarities with the scene between Sable and casino owner Aly Samarkian in Dynasty, S9. Aly also has Zack's line from TC: "Mi casa est su casa." Used in DS9, it's a joke, because in Superbitch, SB's character is the Helen of Troy who unwittingly let the Trojan Horse into the house when the boss was away.]

Then, there was Charley's suicide-by-gun plan. In Superbitch, the aging drug supplier has a handgun with a distinctive design, which he keeps in a drawer. [Zack had a distinctively similar one in his yacht drawer on TC. Like Charley, Zack puts the gun in his pocket before it's used.] On Superbitch, the gun gets taken and put in a pocket too, but it has a longer story of its own. From Superbitch, you can guess how Charlie's gun storyline ends.

And there's FC's descriptive bit about Frank: "What a good husband you are." While that line has a place in the Frank Visits Angela in Hospital 'story' (reflecting dark humour, given what was revealed about Frank to audiences earlier), I didn't think it was something that a hospital worker would actually say to a visitor. ....But, perhaps, it was said because the final revelation in Superbitch is actually an unspoken one. (Revealed on paper before the final credits roll.)

My guess is that Charley is that Johnny-Come-Lately in Superbitch; and casting Mark Chapman -- who shares the same first and last name as the man who killed John Lennon -- was an inspired move by producers who saw comedy in that. :D

    S9E09 Merry Christmas Charley

Sydney’s story on how her father sold her to pay a gambling debt is pretty heart-breaking.

Shame Emma is now too clouded to believe Sydney when she tells her about Ian killing Daniel.

Now Chris is asking Sydney where the gun is, the one Ian threw into the desert…. Really?:confuse:

    “Where you going buddy?”

“Oh Frank, I’m just running out to the desert just outside Vegas, I won’t be long”

    Lance is back:dance:

“I had to get away, I was afraid I was going to kill someone”

“Do you still feel that way?”

“I don't know what I feel, though I did have a luck wave”

The Daniels Christmas party is going down in the right direction for a cosy set up with Richard & Lauren and Walker is doing all the work.

As silly as the two brothers are, I’m really enjoying this story and the build up to where they intend to kill both Emma & Sydney.

Fan-bloody-tasic!!!! Frank dives in through the window and kicks Ian’s face in.

Then Sydney sticks a knife in Ian’s back. I’m so excited, if only Angela was here to see this.

Dear Lord, she does it twice!

Oh my giddy aunt fanny! If one death isn’t enough

    “Merry Christmas Charley”

This has been one of my favourite stories all season.

    S9E10 Danny

Sydney really reminds me of Dorothy Gale in this outfit, which is weird because I don’t recall Dorothy dressed anything like this.

Or am I thinking of someone else…?

Genele has found out about the bad wine

    “You’re in trouble Michael”

“This is the best piece of news I’ve heard in a month”

    Do tell me more Michael

Ah – I get ya now.

Michael has a son, Danny and he looks like he’s here to cause more trouble.

So – I realised the Charley/Ian story couldn’t continue, it was getting too ridiculous, however I’m really impressed by how the fight to own Falcon Crest is still topping the bill.

“The fact is, Falcon Crest belongs to me”:box:

I get why Sydney thinks going out with Danny might help in Emma’s troubles, but why has she stopped asking about Chris?

Oh, come on Sydney! Don’t bring Danny into the house and then leave him alone to go rummaging through the bloody documents.

    Oh, she has remembered Chris.

    Here it comes...

“When we danced the other night, I felt very close to you”

    Oops…

“But it can’t go any further”

She’s playing ‘hard to get’ :spinning:

While the ‘happy go lucky’ inside of me would have wanted Emma to win the case over Falcon Crest, I’m rather excited at what lies ahead. I’m also loving the feisty Sydney so much more now she’s rid of that Ian cretin.

“I’ll get you and I’ll send you straight to hell”

Emma has left – again. I hope it’s only temporary, we’ve lost too many of the originals.

Ome, I guess you remembered Syd later of "Wayward Pines" (among a lot of other stuff)...Carla Gugino. Oh and what do you think of the fact that Lance has slowly been reworked into a better version of Cole...who would have said that?

Ome how do you feel season 9 as a revamped show (IMHO a good part not for the better) fits in with the rest of the series, from the episodes you reviewed so far? Do you think it was better than the 1987-’88 and 1988-’89 years or disjointed, more like a spin off but with the mansion still featuring?

Lauren and Walker Daniels have fostered Richard’s children, after Maggie’s demise. Walker is behaving erratically, (a scene from season 9, 1989 – ‘90):

Richard speaks to the on the edge Walker: “If you are gonna shoot me, shoot but don’t talk me to death.”

    S9E11 Time Bomb

Genele has made it to the opening credits.

I love the idea of Danny running the winery.

Richard looking at pictures of Maggie had me thinking how strange it is that no Gioberti is left, I never would have guessed this is how it all might end.

Richard has now said he needs Lauren and I think Walker is permanently drunk these days.

Now it’s really looking rosy for Lauren, that idiot Walker is off to Oregon on his own.

Is it the end for Lance & Pilar too?

    “Do you want a divorce?”

    Nah, I don’t think so….

Pilar gave a great speech to Lance about how much she loves him, he’d be a fool to let this one go now.

“I love you, I love you, can’t you see that I love you?”

Oh, he’s acting like a dick now.

Now then…. Walker is still here, watching his wife get it on with Richard.

Have we another crazy stalker on our hands?

Who is this idiot playing chess and shouting at Pilar?

Oh FFS!!!! I can’t believe Pilar has gone and slept with him. :2B:

What? He even has a chess board set up in his bedroom

Ah touché, Lance has gone and done the dirty too.

Oh goody goody, Walker has been buying guns and ammunition

“Are you my mother, or just nosy?”

It didn’t take Richard long to realise Jace has been playing him.

Ha ha! Walker is shooting at Richard and Lauren, then he’s telling him to freeze, what a golden opportunity from the effects guy to use his ‘freeze frame’ function…

He’s certainly got them hostage now, I wonder where the boys are.

“Mr Millionaire, I do believe you’re scared”

Of course he’s scared, there’s a nutter with a rifle pointed at him

This is getting even better, Michael & Genele are here and Walker has a bomb strapped to him. How considerate of him giving them 30 minutes before blowing it all up. I’m more or less expecting Richard to save the day, but will it come at a cost…?

I’m confused why Richard, Lauren & Michael would stand so close to Walker when the bomb was about to explode, that was until it went off and all it really caused was a loud bang and a big light.

That said, they really are packing everything into this final season.

    S9E12 Madness Descending

Genele wants somewhere to live because Frank is returning, I’m simply wondering if Chris will be with him.

Golly gosh wow…. They found Chris

    “It appears he was murdered”

Ha! The chess player has come to give Pilar flowers, while she is having dinner with Lance – so much for that Luck Wave now Lancey boy!

    He’s great!

“There’s very little that frightens me”

Why isn’t Frank telling anyone about Chris?

I wish Lauren would snap out of this crazy mood.

    “But I’m scared”

Yeah even the kiddies are fed up with Lauren too.

Frank has just handed a bag of bones to the cops.

    “I’m sure you’ll find it’s my wife”

Whatever Frank was planning, it sure didn’t go his way and just to add a little spice to the mix, Genele happens to be walking out of the station just as they are preparing to keep Frank there under lock & key.

Michael is telling Genele that Lauren has just left the hospital. Lauren said to Michael that she was ready to go, I think she was talking suicide and not just leaving the hospital.

Oh wow, I had no idea.
Do you mean like he's becoming a background character?
If someone had said to me that Angela, Maggie and now Emma don't feature much in the final season (if at all) I would have thought it would be crazy, suicidal even. However I'm having such a great time with this season that I haven't noticed their absences like I thought I would. The show does feel somewhat like a spin-off that's based around the mansion, but the characters they've introduced have been really compelling.

Michael, his company along with Genele and now Danny have been a fantastic additions to the show, even Charley & Ian are great villains, though camp at times Charley worked well alongside Emma.

I never felt connected to Eric, Dan, Nick, Ben and Cesar of the previous two seasons.

There's some dodgy soundtrack and a guy who loves playing around with the 'freeze-frame' feature, but it all adds up to a very exciting season.

How is the final season regarded with long term fans of the show?

Falcon Crest never took itself too seriously. There were minor tweaks here and there over the years. In the ninth and final season the show was barley recognisbale, apart from Angela and Maggie at the start, mid way through Emma was gone leaving only Richard, Lance and Chao-Li as the originals but the narrative had altered so much. Even with all this Sharpe was probably my favourite character and Lauren my least favourite, nobody could replace Maggie. Charley was just bonkers!

Rejunvenating a long running show can alienate the fanbase and over the years there as been much discussion about season 9. Season 8 was named the most ruined programme by the Soap Opera Digest and although it was a bit of a yawn I preferred this year, over the final season. There were plans for a 10th but the 9th was apparently going to be cancelled mid way through the episode arc I'm glad this didn't happen. A show like FC which ran for almost 9 years needs a suitable conclusion and I believe we got in style. However the closure in May 1990 probably wasn't to everyone's taste, as reagrds putting a cork in the saga.

Oh forgive me for being so far behind, but I just watched the episode where Maggie learns she has a brain tumor (inoperable!!) and that was soooo good. Meanwhile, Julia made escaping from a high security mental asylum like a piece of cake and was soon slithering around in the mud. This is going to be good.

I loved Michael's line: "You're either a pathological liar or I'm a pathological fool." Why not both? And what a crazy combo that makes!

    S9E13 Four Women

I can’t decide who is more messed up, Lauren or Genele.

Now it seems both women are fine and back on their feet again. :confuse:

LOL, Danny thought he was in with a shout with Genele. :D

Sometimes a character comes into a show and I find myself not only missing the point, but often finding myself distracted with other things. I’ve been watching Jovan work his way around a couple of characters, but have no idea what is happening.

Sydney is giving Danny a little talk

“I’m directly responsible for killing the only person I ever loved”

Does she mean Ian, I mean she did kill him, or does she mean Chris, as in she led him to his death. Either one, I didn’t think she was actually in love with them.

This is great where they are making it look like Lauren gave Michael the information on Richard.

Bloody hell, Chao-Li just answered the door….:eck:

Michael & Genele really are controlling Richard

    “I think you’d better leave”

At least Lance & Pilar are back on track.

    S9E14 Brotherly Love

The way Michael spoke to Lauren about how they were meant to be together and then kissing her on the cheek from behind was kinda “oh no they are not going there are they?” :cool1 I mean after all the title of the episode is Brotherly Love.

I don’t know what Sydney is doing, whether she likes Danny as a boyfriend or is using him in a way to get at Michael. The dinner gathering looks really awkward for her.

Oh, here she goes, talking about the winery that Michael owns

    “Because you stole it”

Richard has figured out Jovan probably leaked the information and Pilar is now bringing Genele into the conversation and it didn’t take long for Richard to find Genele

“You introduced him to Sharpe didn’t you?”

Bloody hell, Michael is going into his sister’s room and getting close on the bed…

“I worry that you’re going to hurt and alienate everyone”

    Now they are getting closer….

Michael is really losing it and I’m loving it.:jump3:

    S9E15 Finding Lauren

Lauren has attracted some real creep. Good job she helped delivery that baby, one good turn deserves another and all that.

Ah - Richard is behind the creepy dude.

    Is Richard growing his hair?

“Lauren, you just can’t run away from your life”

Bloody hell, I rolled my eyes when I saw Lauren go into the tarot reading cards shop and then

“Two children who have lost their mother”

No way… Is Richard behind this too?:eek::eek::eek:

Lauren is back, that was quick. :cool1

Sydney overhears Lance & Pilar discussing that Michael wants rid of her and like every other soapy story, she only hears a portion of the tale before running off. :re:

Now Lauren is reading more into a comment from Richard about shortening her hair and getting a lighter shade.:hello:

I’m super impressed how quickly Lance got a tattoo that looks like it’s been there for quite some time. Aren’t they usually all red and sore looking, or even covered up to begin with?

    S9E16 Walking Money

At first I wasn’t keen on Danny, he was just a chip of the old man and I did like how he went against him with Sydney. Now I’m really liking the character and how he’s fitting in with Lance & Pilar in the interest of the business.

“I love you and I want you”

Come on Sydney, believe in him, I do.

Michael is doing a fantastic job in creating more enemies, now I’m wondering, hoping if Genele will swap sides and join forces with Lance & co.

“It really is war, then let it begin”

Genele’s plan to steal the million dollar bond is costing more and more as she’s having to pay off anyone who knows about it. She needs to get in with Lance & Co.

Okay, the next best thing is to go to Richard

“Are you so in love with her that you can’t stand the thought of hurting her bother?

Richard will sell the bond, but Genele is telling him he has to set up someone because Michael won’t rest until he finds out who betrayed him.

    But who…?

Holy crap, I think Michael is setting up Danny as the fall guy, at least that’s how it came across.

Richard’s cut from the money is 100% LOL :lolo:

“Lady, you’ve got a short memory, it wasn’t that long ago when you and that slime Sharpe tried to ruin my life”

I’m really, really very upset for Genele right now, what a tragic lifestyle she has had.

Michael confronting Danny, but not mentioning the money gave a nice twist that was until Danny replied

“I feel like a million bucks”

Michael is paying someone to spook Sydney, only seeing as this is a soap Danny borrows her car. If something really bad happens, this will screw up Michael even more.

No sooner am I thinking all this and Michael gets that message

Your son has been in an accident.
