Finally, that guest appearance on Falcon Crest paid off!
Well deserved indeed!
Francesca is returning to Italy. Before she returns to the roots of Falcon Crest there is the very important matter of the auction, which will see a new part owner, buy her 1/3 birthright of the company, (a scene from season 4, 1984 – ‘85):
Francesca appears from the upstairs of the Falcon Crest mansion, with Chao-Li carrying her suitcases. The door bell rings.
Francesca: “Chao-Li put everything in the car please. I’ll be leaving as soon as we finish here.”
Chao-Li: “Yes Miss Gioberti!”
Chao-Li opens the door, to find his neighbour Jean Louis De Bercy (cartel boss Gustav Riebmann) standing there.
Chao-Li: “Good afternoon Mr. De Bercy!”
Jean Louis: “Is Francesca here?”
Jean Louis kisses her on both cheeks, as they hold hands.
Francesca: “Oh Jean Louis! I was afraid you weren’t going to make it.”
Jean Louis: “It’s an opportunity I wouldn’t have missed.”
They walk into the living room, as Francesca says, “Please sit down!”
Lance points to the ruthless De Bercy and says, “Ah Francesca what’s he doing here?”
Francesca: “He wanted to make a bid, on my property.”
Chase: “How many others have you invited to this auction?”
Francesca: “Several people send their regrets.”
Angela: “Can we get on with this?”
Auctioneer: “Absolutely! I’ll take your bids now.”
All the interested parties submit their bids.
Francesca: “If you don’t mind I would like to use your study, for a few minutes.”
Lance: “Oh no no….please feel free. Our house is your house.”
Richard says to Pamela: “I wonder whos’ house it’s going to be next?”
Lance looks at Melissa and remarks, “you know Melissa it surprises me that you’re not bidding on this.”
She smiles at Lance and replies, “let’s just say I’m here as an interested observer.”
He returns the smile. Greg glances at Melissa. Angela looks over to Chase, with Maggie looking on.
The camera moves to the study. Francesca and the auctioneer weigh up the bids. Francesca is astonished.
Francesca: “I had no idea that property was worth this much money. Angela tried to buy it from me, for pennies, when I first arrived. The lowest bid here is for $24 million dollars.”
Auctioneer: “And the highest is 31”
Francesca: “That’s only for 1/3 of the estate. My American cousins have done very well.”
Auctioneer: “It looks like Mr De Bercy is going to be the new part owner of Falcon Crest.”
Francesca looks at the bid.
Cole: “How much longer are they gonna sit in there?”
Emma: “Maybe they snuck out the back and took all the cheques with them.”
Jean Louis: “Perhaps there are duplicate bids. They may try to push the price even higher.”
Richard: “Mr. De Bercy I was wondering how you managed to wrangle an invitation, to this little party?”
Jean Louis: “I have made no pretence about my desire to acquire Falcon Crest. My own property is far too limited.”
Angela looks sternly at Richard saying: “What I’d like to know is where did you find the money? The whole world knows you’re borrowed up to your earlobes.”
Richard: “And we all know who the whole world’s source of information is, don’t we Angela?”
Francesca and the auctioneer appear from the study and join everybody in the living room.
Francesca: “I have examined all your bids. They were very generous. Thank you!”
Angela sitting very smugly announces, “I’ll top any offer you’ve received.”
Francesca: “You’re very kind, now Angela.”
Jean Louis: “However it defeats the whole point of asking for sealed bids.”
Francesca walks around to the fireplace, where Chase and Angela are sitting, “anyway I have already made my decision.”
She stands between her nephew and half sister declaring, “I have given this much thought. Chase and Angela are members of my own family. If I sell to Chase then I destroy Angela. If I sell to Angela then I destroy Chase and I do not want to hurt anybody.”
Maggie holds Chase’s hand, as his aunt moves towards their French (really German) neighbour and remarks, with a smile, “Jean Louis you are a stranger to Falcon Crest. I’m sorry I cannot sell it to you.”
Richard looks toward Francesca, as she tells him want he wants to hear, “Richard. It’s all yours!” They embrace.
Melissa looks over at them, with a shocked look.
Angela: “That is outrageous and I won’t stand for it!”
Francesca: “You have no choice sister!”
Richard leads the former owner of the wine business into the hallway and says, “thank you!”
Chase puts his denounced bid in his inside coat pocket and stands with Angela looking on. The two of them not best pleased about their new business partner.
Fade to black, the theme music and the credits.
I don't think her guest appearance on Falcon Crest had anything to do with it!
But good for her.
I'm surprised it's taken this long to recognise her in this way. Falcon Crest was probably her last significant high profile role and that was 30 years ago so it's taken them a while to get around to giving her a star.
She's in good company.
Congratulations to Gina!
That’s a nice bit of immortal recognition, kudos. Gina was one of my fav guest stars, even though the others probably did more episodes.
Better late than never, I suppose. Long overdue is an understatement.
