OMG the horror, I'd almost blanked it out.

The episode with the fake Beatle. His accent!!!!

It bothers me a lot that so many directors think that American viewers (or the rest of the world) won't pick up on a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllly bad accent. The Beatles were from Liverpool, and although I guess that doesn't mean the 'fake Beatle' had to have a Liverpudlian accent - his English one wasn't much better. It's hideous and really puts me off this episode.

That was Terry Kiser, a frequent guest-star on so many shows. He was even on Knots Landing as Teddy, an old flame of Karen's who thought he might be Diana's real father. He was also quite infamous as the title corpse in Weekend at Bernie's. I always forgave the awful accent in the Beatlemania episode because it adds to the cheese factor---Dorothy acting so fan-girly over such a terrible Beatle imitator.

In other news from Richland Avenue, Hulu decided to remove an episode of GG from their streaming service because of a brief sight gag of Blanche and Rose with mud masks on their faces. It's the episode where Michael was set to marry Lorraine, an older woman with whom he was having a baby. Hulu execs (obviously communicating from under their desks) pulled the episode because they likened the mud-masks gag to the ladies doing blackface. Never mind that the episode explored interracial romances/marriages and ended with both families of the couple becoming closer after recognizing and dismissing old prejudices. The world has gone mad.

Hence my cautious approach regarding these current awareness developments. I don't particularly mind the adjustments themselves (if it makes other people feel so much better) it's just that we tend to go from one extreme to the opposite extreme. From "everything goes" to "zero tolerance". And it's not the first time this happened.
Why is it so difficult for people to compromise?

I read that earlier today and was speechless. Mudmask = blackface??? Who in their right mind will confuse the two? That is beyond ridiculous. Should we be afraid to put on a mudmask from now on in case someone sees us and think we am mocking POC?

People seem so scared of crossing the line nowadays that they panic when they can spot the shadow of the line ahead of them with their telescope.

They’ve done it because Rose and Blanche walked out just as Lorraine’s family arrive.

But I do agree it is ridiculous. Blanche even explains it’s a mud mask.

Dorothy absolutely is my favourite, her facial expressions, the way she delivers a joke, the way she berates Rose, she makes me laugh out loud.

Bea Arthur was a master of the withering look/stare. She could even do a 'triple take', not just the standard double take to express her exasperation.

I have to be honest. I’ve watched a LOT of Golden Girls over the past few months and I’ve wanted to say this for a while.

I do not understand why Dorothy is initially so happy that Stan is remarrying after he left her after 38 years. I don’t get it.
