Do we have a catchy intro theme for this spin-off?
Perhaps Lucy, played by Bell, is J.R. and first wife Valene's daughter. J.R neglected her, and she found comfort in his brother Gary. He had both banished and took infant Lucy. She could view Sue Ellen as the wicked stepmother and taunts her about not giving her daddy heirs.
How about the "Who's the Boss" theme? That way, they could tie both shows together. Judith raised Harris's younger half brother with her male house keeper while poor Harris was locked in an asylum with JR Ewing. We know Judith is the power behind Harris, and then we come to find out that Mama's Mama Mona is the power behind her! I think it sounds delicious!
I like it, but Cynthia Cidre has such high standards, I think she would prefer something by Hans Zimmer or Lalo Shifrin.
Dallas TNT was so badly done, I don't know if its possible to bring Dallas back. Is it possible to do a show like Dynasty CW? Maybe if you have decent writers and a good cast. True, fans would make comparisons though so it would have an uphill to climb. Or they could do a preequel with Jock, Ellie, Digger when they were ruling things with JR, Gary, Bobby, Cliff and Pam as children and the creation of Ewing Oil.
The problems with Dallas TNT were numerous but the main problem with that they put someone in charge who did not care about the original series and wanted a Mexican drama.
If they want to do a reboot move it from Dallas to another city. While their at it change the names and just use the basic characters as a foundation for a whole new story.
That's an interesting idea. Although I think it's more interesting when people create original shows rather than remaking classic shows. The way I see it is if it's already been a great success why try to remake it?
It's not like it's ever gonna top the original anyway!
I do love the continuations with the same actors reprising their characters though. I was delighted when Dallas came back although disappointed that it was cancelled before it reached it's full potential of what it could be.
Also I love Fuller House. It's basically the same concept as the original but involves the next generation with the oldest generation still showing up for guest spots regularly. It has totally managed to capture the feel of the original show and I love how I can catch up with the characters I grew up with and see how their lives turned out as adults. Which careers they have chosen, how many kids they have etc. etc.
Of course they had the same show runner/creator of both shows which has made all the difference.
How about this ranch in Sugar Land, TX as the new SF? It almost looks like a bigger version of the original and could probably be more believable holding all those people.
Is that real?
Yes, I believe so. It's outside of Houston, though. Do we call the show Houston now lol
David Jacobs did.
IMO, the only way a prequel or a sequel like Dallas could work is if it’s on a major network where the production would be top notch. I would go with a sequel and have Bobby as the patriarch figure, with him and Sue Ellen playing significantly smaller roles.
I'd love to see a shot at the 60s period, with Jock still in his prime and firmly in charge, JR his protege ascendent in the company, meeting and marrying Sue Ellen, and Bobby coming up as the golden boy star athlete. Perhaps a bit earlier as well - the Gary/Valene/Lucy/JR drama.
I'd like to see cinema-level production values and a dramatic tone, more in the direction of the Sopranos than something superficial and trashy. It's hard to know if they could find actors with the presence of a Jim Davis and a Hagman to pull it off, but there were great stories to tell!
It looks like Ray's house, expanded to accommodate all those babies that Jenna and Charlie and Randy populate it with. None of which are actually Ray's:
And today, with all those digital visual tricks available, they could actually do it.
