    Soap Chat has spoken.
The results are in for Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)

Six of us selected our favourite versions, coming up with thirty six unique versions by thirty five artists. And we have a very definite winner.

    Here's how we voted...

    1. Kate Bush - 50
    2. Placebo - 29
    3. Kate Bush [Louis La Roche Remix] - 20
    4. Gregorian / Jørn - 16
    5. The Feud - 14
    6. Tori Amos - 13
    7. Elestic Band / Faith And The Muse - 12
    8. Baroni ft. JB - 11
    9. Jade Bird - 10
    10. Avec Sans / Bo Bruce / Re-Touch / Within Temptation - 9
    11. Hollow Hum & Molly Parden / Starlab vs. Sonatron ft. Belle Erskine - 7
    12. Icon And The Black Roses / Levy 9 / Modified / William Control - 6
    13. Blue Pearl / Cartouche / Dave Rummans / Mirela Nita & After School Video Club / Sharm - 5
    14. Blinker The Star / Jem / Moon’s Chameleon / Will Young - 4
    15. Track And Field / Wye Oak - 3
    16. Andy Bopp / Chromatics / Kiki & Herb / Tiffany - 1

With a whopping fifty points, Kate's original version wins, taking the crown back from the covers after just one round. It's worth noting that Kate also came in third place with the Louis La Roche Remix earning her a further twenty points.

I've just broken the news, and she's rather pleased.

Our first Seasonal Standard of 2017 is...
    Winter Wonderland

"Winter Wonderland" is a winter song written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith. Smith, a native of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was reportedly inspired to write the song after seeing Honesdale's Central Park covered in snow. Smith had written the lyrics while in the West Mountain Sanitarium, being treated for tuberculosis.

The first recording was by Richard Himber and his Hotel Ritz-Carlton Orchestra in 1934. The biggest chart hit at the time of introduction was Guy Lombardo's orchestra, a top ten hit. Singer-songwriter Johnny Mercer took the song to #4 in Billboard's airplay chart in 1946. The same season, Perry Como hit the retail top ten. Como would record a new version for his 1959 Christmas album.

Due to its seasonal theme, "Winter Wonderland" is popularly regarded as a Christmas song in the Northern Hemisphere. There is a mention of "sleigh-bells" several times, implying that this song refers to the Christmas period.

Through the decades it has been recorded by over 200 different artists. You can find a list of many recordings here, and hundreds of further recordings here. Have a peek, then come back and list your favourites below.

As always, single song entries won't be counted. Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of three choices. You're very welcome to list more than ten, but only the first ten will be counted, with the maximum ten points going to your #1 choice.

Everyone is very welcome to join in. If we could have our choices in by Tuesday night that would be super. But there are a lot to sift through, so just say if you'd like more time. Have fun!!

This is proving to be an exciting round. There are no replications so far.

Three people with ten votes each have added up to thirty completely unique artists. Could this round end up with the highest number of versions chosen, I wonder?

Scores are in... are you listening?

Six of us voted on Winter Wonderland. Together we came up with an impressive forty three versions. Together with Time After Time, this ties it in first place as the song with the highest number of versions voted on, making this another historic round.

All those unique versions mean this was fairly low scoring round. And it was a close one. One less point for our winner and we would have had a three way tie. Nonetheless, we have a winner. Here's how SoapChat voted for this Seasonal Standard...

    Next up...
    Santa Baby

Suggested by @Ome for Christmas, "Santa Baby" is a 1953 Christmas song written by Joan Javits (the niece of Senator Jacob K. Javits) and Philip Springer. The song is a tongue-in-cheek look at a Christmas list addressed to Santa Claus by a woman who wants extravagant gifts such as furs, yachts and decorations from Tiffany's.

"Santa Baby" was originally recorded by Eartha Kitt with Henri René and his orchestra in New York City during July 1953. It was released by RCA Victor Records and EMI. The song was a huge hit for Kitt and she later said that it was one of her favourite songs to record. In 1954, Kitt recorded a new version of the song with new lyrics titled "This Year's Santa Baby" to no commercial success. Writers listed did not change. Kitt recorded "Santa Baby" again in 1963, using a more uptempo arrangement.

The many cover versions of "Santa Baby" include: Mae West (1966); Madonna (1987); Ru Paul (1997); Kylie Minogue (2000); Sheila E. (2000); Jane Krakowski (2001); Lynn Anderson (2002); Macy Gray (2003); LeAnn Rimes (2004); The Pussycat Dolls (2005); Taylor Swift (2007) Kate Ceberano (2009); The Puppini Sisters (2010); MIchael Bublé (2011); Only Men Aloud (2011) and Gwen Stefani (2017).

You can find over 160 versions here.

If we could have our choices in by Sunday night that would be super. Have fun!!

I think I will skip this round. I always get an unpleasant image in my head when I hear this. Let's just say that it's a perverse image of a young woman in lingerie trying to seduce an old fat man with beard. This image has completely ruined the song for me.

I don't think anyone comes close to matching the charm and tongue in cheek humour in the Eartha Kitt version but I managed to find 9 more versions that aren't too bad.

    1. Earth Kitt

    2. Ariana Grande

    3. Bessie Turner
