J.R. didn’t deserve a happy ending. And J.R. and Sue Ellen are a terrible couple that brings out the worst in each other - I don’t get how people conflate that into a great romance.

I would have had Pam return, and reunite with Bobby. Tired of J.R.’s antics and the dysfunctional family, they decide to start a new life elsewhere and drive off Southfork in a new red Mercedes, in a nice bookend to the opening scenes of the first episode. And J.R. is left all alone at Southfork, having driven everyone off with his wheeling and dealings.

@Chris2 - JR and Sue Ellen are a terrible couple but you’d like Bobby to reunite with a woman who abandoned him because she didn’t like how she looked (or had cancer depending on what you believe) and left her young son behind.. added to how Bobby didn’t seem to give a damn about her in the end....? What do you equate THAT to?

    Hmmm.

Awwww, com'n --- JR and Sue Ellen were a deliciously terrible couple. That was kind of the point.

    I dunno
Exactly! That's why the whole fantasies of them running away in the sunset together never made sense to me - they basically lived to make each other miserable. If this had any sense of realism you'd want them as far away from each other as possible.

People like them because of Larry Hagman and Linda Gray - not because of the actual characters.

I’ll take Bobby and Pam over Sue Ellen and J.R. any day, even with the ridiculous plot of burned Pam running away.

You are right about one thing. JR did eventually drive everybody away.

I like your vision but probably would go one step further. As the family gather at Southfork (outside) I would have the camera focus on John Ross (age 12), Christopher (10), Lucas (4) and Margaret (4). We've possible seen enough of the past but what does the future hold for the Ewing family....
