    For me:

    Dallas 2012

Southfork is filled inside and out as people show up to remember Miss Ellie. The entire family is there, all but JR. Gary and Lucy walk into the living room as everyone else is leaving. Bobby and Christoper are next. Then John Ross and Sue Ellen.

Miss Ellie’s lawyer speaks. “Thank you for staying behind so we can handle Miss Ellie’s wishes. I know it seems fairly simple, but it’s not. She’d been preparing this for almost a year. I know you helped her with South Fork,Bobby, but there’s a lot more to it.

First the easy part. She leaves all of her personal belongings to her granddaughter Lucy to divide among all her grandchildren, including Charlie, Maggie and Lucas Krebs, as you she’s fit. Miss Ellie added a codicil two months ago, which specifically leaves her pearls to Sue Ellen.

As you all know Miss Ellie gave the South Fork Ranch to Bobby some time ago and he’s taken very good care of it. But she’s since bought three other ranches and she’s taken them all apart, including the parts of South Fork she never gave to Bobby, having just given the cattle business to him. The land and mineral rights of each ranch, including South Fork she leaves to the Ewing Farlow Foundation, to protect and preserve. The one stipulation is no drilling or mining on South Fork land can ever occur. The land is then rented to each cattle business for one dollar a year. South Fork already being Bobby’s. The West Fork Ranch in California she leaves to Gary. The Wade Ranch here in Texas to Bobby and the McKay Ranch next door to JR.

In addition Miss Ellie leaves the three houses and the land immediately surrounding each on West Fork to Gary’s three children. She leaves the house on the Wade Ranch to Lucas Krebs. She leaves the cottage here on South Fork to Christopher. And this house at South Fork to John Ross with the stipulation JR, Bobby and john Ross’s siblings always have a bedroom here.

In the last month Miss Ellie was finally able to buy the Southern Cross and leaves it to Dusty Farlow in a similar set up as the others.

The rest of her estate, cash and investments, mostly in West Star, which is now the Trident Corporation, she leaves to the Ewing Farlow Foundation.

She also put together a small trust fund of annuities for Cliff Barnes, in the last month. After Katherine Wentworth won her court case, stripping Cliff and Pam’s estate of their inheritance from Rebecca Wentworth, Miss Ellie said to me she wanted to help out Digger’s son and hope you all will understand.

Miss Ellie related to me she wants no fighting. She wants everyone to get along and have what they always wanted. She hopes this will sees to that.”

Bobby is the first to thank him. He then begins to pass out letters from Miss Ellie.

Sue Ellen walks into JR’s room. His back to the door looking out the window. She says, “Miss Ellie left you the McKay Ranch and this house to John Ross.”

“I’m glad for John Ross. I made a promise to him. At least he’ll get the house.”

“The land, the mineral rights, her’s and Clayton’s money, she left to the foundation. Of course South Fork can’t be drilled on.”

“Why would my momma leave me the McKay Ranch?”

Sue Ellen shrugs and hands him a letter.

He opens it and reads it aloud in a quiet, worn out voice. “My Dearest JR, my first born, my rock. You have no idea how much you have meant to me and that’s my fault. All the good in you and all the bad belongs to me and your father. We should have kept our promises to you. I hope you feel that by leaving the house at South Fork to John Ross you see how much I recognized your place as my oldest son.

I didn’t leave you the cattle business because you never seemed to care about it. I did leave you the McKay Ranch. I suggest you turn over running it to Bobby. The reason I gave it to you is so you can drill on it and get at South Fork’s oil through slant drilling. It’s all yours. You’ll have to share it with the foundation, but it’s yours.

I love you JR. I’ve loved you longer than anyone. And I pray you never forget that. Your loving mother.”

JR begins to ball. Sue Ellen holds him. “This will give you what you need, right? I run the foundation, so their’s nothing in your way to get at South Fork’s oil. And you can leave a thriving oil company to John Ross, just like you always promised . . . It’s OK JR. we’ll fix everything. We will. It’ll be OK.”

Holding his opened letter, Bobby says to Gary, “Momma wants me to fix things with Lucas.”

    “Is that possible?”

    “I don’t know.”

JR approaches them, “Bob can I see you in private?”

Bobby follows him into the study.

In the closed door room JR says to Bobby, “I’ve got a confession to make.”

    “Let’s here it JR.”

“I was behind Kathryn Wentworth’s suite against Pam and Cliff. Pam abandoned this family and I still hold a grudge against Cliff and always will. I financed her and when she won, I bought it all, on the cheap. I also arranged it so she’d return to the state’s thinking she’d get a pardon but instead got arrested for trying to kill you.”

“What do you want me to say JR? You want me to be angry because you bankrupted Pam and Cliff. I don’t even know what’s happened with Pam. I probably never will. And Cliff, I’m not sure he didn’t have it coming. Kathryn certainly did. Is that all?”

“I was behind Lone Star Investment’s buying Ewing Oil.”

“Of course you were. Don’t think I didn’t know from the begging what you were doing.”

“Momma also gave me a way. to get at South Fork’s oil.”

“I know that too. I told her about slant drilling. I also know about your shares in Trident. And momma’s shares that Sue Ellen controls with the foundation. It should give you a seat back on the board. And you don’t have to worry about competing with it, as it’s all mid and down stream production. You’ve got Ewing Oil as one of the nation’s largest pure play oil and gas companies, with South Fork’s oil added to things. And Ewing Oil is owned by Ewing Industries, which is all yours. It also owns your shares in Trident, Lone Star, Wentworth Tool and Die and about two dozen other companies. Congratulations JR. I sincerely hope you finally feel enough is enough.”

    “And we’re good?”

    “We’re good.”

    The brothers hug.

I know I'm an old romantic and we couldn't predict the future, but I'd have had JR and Sue Ellen get back together early on while we still had that opportunity :(

I'd have begun with 2 funerals.

    1. Miss Ellie's, because I think this would be a very logical jump on point for both old and new viewers. It would also introduce all the main players via a will reading, but I would keep it all very simple. Bobby already owns Southfork so will get a small cash amount in the will, as will JR, but the grandchildren get the bulk of the cash and as Bobby owns Southfork JR gets all her shares in Ewing Energies.

    2. The 2nd funeral is on the other side of Texas and is Pam's funeral. In contrast to the huge gathering at Southfork, Pam's funeral has just a few people in attendance - Cliff, Afton, Pamela,Katherine & her Doctor/Husband. It soon becomes clear though that Katherine is being escorted, having been given a release from prison for the funeral.

As they leave and walk away Katherine and Pamela get to quickly talk..."Just three more months and you'll be out", says Pamela, "Then we can act". Katherine smiles and nods, "Christopher's in too, Bobby & JR have no idea what's coming".

    TITLES...

And that's how I'd start it.

The above idea of mine would be:

John Ross working the ranch with Bobby, wanting to buy it from him someday while JR tries to get him into the oil business, and get him married to a proper girl, all the while he’s in love with Pamela Barnes, who’ll have nothing to do with him.

Chris is just like JR, building the company without anyone in his way. JR telling him, he couldn’t be prouder if he was his own son. Chris even courts Amy Anderson, the girl JR wanted for John Ross, who’s Punk and Mavis’s granddaughter, who’s in love with John Ross.

Ellie is in the middle, a spoiled brat who manipulates and controls men. She treats Chris like a hired hand and John Ross and Bo like princes. She’s the one JR pays the most attention to. Sue Ellen has a difficult relationship with her, though with Mandy having passed away, the two women form a sort of friendship.

Bo, gets the least attention for JR. He works the oil fields. With John Ross’s encouragement and investment, he goes into business on his own. He’s found a way to extract more natural gas from the Earth, but requires leaving the oil in the ground, converting it to gas and sludge, something he believes long term will be a cleaner source of energy. He struggles with being gay in a masculine environment, even though he’s accepted by everyone. Ellie tries to fix him up with the right guy, Brett Leeland.

Lucas and Bobby are at odds with each other. Lucas only sees the bad in Bobby and wants nothing to do with him. John Ross reaches out to Lucas to work with him as they become best of friends. Lucas has a crust on Amy Anderson and is very good friends with Pamela Barnes and Brett Leeland.

Wendell is plotting to destroy the Ewing’s, sabotaging Bo, setting up Chris, building up to a big play where JR sets up his biggest play ever and wrestled control of Trident, pushing Wendell out. The finally of season 1 being JR on top - careful what you wish for.

Then with season two and JR’s death I’d have to quickly adjust. I know his health would have prevented his appearance in much earlier but that would be ok. The above would be more JR behind the seasons and work well with his absences. It would also focus more on relationships and family with business as a side note.

1st I’d state that Bobby knew JR had been dealing with stage 4 cancer. Sue Ellen is upset he didn’t let her say good by, even has they got close again. I’d also state the year is 2010, 3 years earlier then it appeared on tv, making note there is no estate tax that year and leading to the speculation that JR lobbied for the tax change and then hastened his death by a few months to meet its deadline.

By this point Bobby would have turned the Southfork Cattle Company over to John Ross, retired to work part time on the ranch, and John Ross and Lucas would combine it (including McKay’s cattle) and the Wade ranch, running the two 50/50. The one non-contentious business in the family.

John Ross takes his mother into Southfork. After a year of fighting with JR he has to fight to save his mother from grief. All the while, still the lone cowboy.

    The will:

JR splits Ewing Industries equally between John Ross, Ellie, Bo, an unknown son and Christopher, who it’s revealed real is his son with Kristen after all. All shares are in trust and John Ross is the trustee of everting.

It’s also revealed Lucas has a gambling problem and has lost his 1/2 of the Southfork Cattle Company, which JR has bought and leaves to John Ross.

Now John Ross has to fight to keep his family together, including keeping an even more determined Christopher in line and accepting a new family member, all while dealing with the loss of his father.

I like your ideas. Christopher especially sounds interesting. It's going to be challenging to find an actor who can be your "new JR" though, because there aren't a whole lot of actors who can do for that role what Larry Hagman did for JR Ewing.

Just one character doesn't quite fit - Ellie. I don't see JR ever tolerating a "spoiled brat." I'm basing that on original Dallas - not the (non) standards of TNT Dallas.

I would have a procession of multiple funeral cars proceeding to Southfork. As each casket is removed from the funeral car we're witness to name plaques; J.R. Ewing, Sue Ellen Lockwood, John Ross Ewing, Bobby Ewing and Christopher Ewing. All were murdered at Southfork in a fit of rage by Cliff Barnes - now facing the death penalty.

In a bizarre twist of fate Southfork has been left to Randy and Charlie....

That’s why I split JR in two - Ellie and Chris each playing a bit of JR, even Bo as another part of JR. That’s why I need John Ross in the middle - the one to balance them all out, the snob, the deviant, the master manipulator.

I don’t know about JR not tolerating a spoiled brat. He seemed to me to have a very high opinion of his family and that Ewing women shouldn’t work, and how Ewing’s should just get what they want, marry the right people, do nothing but socialize and destroy anyone who opposes them and always be the best looking in the room. Sounds pretty spoiled and bratty to me. I think he’d get a kick out of watching his daughter lean over to Pamela Barnes sit at the Southfork table and say, “Oh sorry, we use utensils here. John Ross really should have helped you out before inviting you to dinner. That one’s the fish knife.” Or when someone proposes she laughs, “If I had a nickel for every time a man proposed to me, I’d be richer than my father.” Or walking into the kitchen to find the rest of the women and the house keeper cooking, Ellie sits, watches and has her chef prepare her meal, she’d say, “I still don’t understand why are we sitting in the kitchen? Who’s idea is this?” Or “Daddy, you know it would be a good idea to put a runway on the property, we gave the room.” Or “I just get a kick out of watching them chase their tails trying to get my attention. It’s like an minnie indoor rodeo.”

Finally. A voice of reason @lbf522 - instead of this ongoing - quite frankly WANK - about him having a daughter with one of those vacant tramps.

My issue with fanfics like these is that they almost always have all these next-generation cousins incredibly involved with each other and the family business. And it just rings false. One of the things that TNT Dallas did do well is not try to bring in every offspring into the series, in a very convoluted way. They focused on the two cousins who were closest. I would have been OK with them bringing in Lucas too.

I get what you’re saying but many of these family businesses would have many cousins involved, though only for the shake of making money not necessarily running the business. That they’d hire people for. Except in TNT Dallas’s case there was no business to be involved with, the cousins created it. The only thing which held the cousins together was the oil under Southfork and sleeping with the same girls. If there had been a family business, which original Dallas was to blame for that mistake, then like the Ford family, or many others, I’d expect many cousins to be involved, if not in the running at least in the making of money and hiring people to run it.

How would I have begun Dallas TNT in 2012? Well, one massive problem is that they decided to do it in 2012. I would not have waited until the original main cast of Dallas was that old.

Supposing it had to be in 2012 though, I certainly wouldn't have hired Cidre as the main person in charge - what did she know about Dallas? She didn't even seem to like Dallas. How about hiring David Paulsen to do the job they gave Cidre? Did they ever consider that?

I've always seen a potential between Patrick and Audrey Landers -- although they had almost zilch scenes together in the original show (where I'd have Bobby marry Tracey McKay and she could be killed in Paris with his latest shrill stalker, April Stephens, shot in the crossfire, freeing him up to fall in love with Afton whom Cliff is neglecting while chasing around Michelle and whomever to get his hands on the latest piece of Ewing Oil).

When nuDALLAS begin in 2012, I'd have Bobby and Afton long-married and living under the Southfork roof --- with Sue Ellen living even closer to the roof as she resides in the upscale attic, peering out from her circular windows (which match nothing on the outside of the house) on all the activity below.

    You're right. You're such a romantic!

    Perchance to dream.
