To really go ballistic on the cul-de-sac. Smack Karen around, maybe even take everyone hostage at gunpoint. That would have been awesome!!!!

I wanted the same from Lucy after Mickey died and Peter rejected her -- I envisioned her at the end of a darkened Southfork kitchen with a butcher knife watching Sue Ellen whom she blamed for everything. Imagine my surprise as few months later, when Lady Jessica played out the exact same moment with Miss Ellie.

But I digress.... yes, Diana becoming unhinged might have been fun, but that would have trivialized KNOTS' realistic 'Mom-and-daughter-screaming-in-the-living-room' dynamic which few if any shows had ever done before, but was happening in many living rooms across the land.

Combine both. Diana and Lucy fight to the death right there on the Cul-de-sac.

Yeah, but Diana has the potential for absolutely going unhinged. Her wild-eyed frothing at the mouth Season 04 and 05 attitude was awesome. She hated everyone, especially Karen and that made her a star in my book.

    Totally defiant....

That just makes her a normal teenager.

No, there was more to her anger than “normal.” She had the potential for bonkers.....

After she is bundled off to the loony bin for a while, she comes back and becomes involved in a front-burner romance story that appears so sweet...so redemptive. Karen is no longer looked at around town as the woman who drove her eldest child to attempt murder. She goes around bragging about how her daughter has met "Mr. Right" at long last. It makes you think Diana's life is finally on track, that she will be paired off with her Prince Charming and live happily ever after. Yes...with her past now behind her, life as Mrs. Joshua Rush would be her dream come true.

I agree. There was no shortage of unhinged characters in 80s SoapLand, but there was only one Diana Fairgate.
    Richard already did that.

I would have loved to have seen Diana slap the sh-t out of Karen!

Oh, yeah. We used to mock Karen ("Diiiiiiiii-aaaaaaaaa-nnnnnnnnaaaaaa!") and wanted Diana to kick her mama in the cooter.

God, I hated Karen in that scene!!!!!!!! The melodramatic running from Val’s house to her own screaming for Diana and making those hideous mime faces!!!!!!

Diana and Joshua had only one fleeting scene together as Diana was leaving KL. Who knows what could have been.....

I know what you mean, but it also fits the Knots "realism" in a way. People look and act "cringy" in dramatic moments, such as running from a house in high heels, if I recall correctly. And yes, Karen had her cringy facial expressions, but that's Karen. It's similar to Gary's drunken, "We're ruining liiiiiiives!" Drunks are cringy and embarrassing. That's why God, in his infinite mercy, invented drunken blackouts. We can't all be slickly, melodramatic drunks like Valene's sister-in-law.
The most cringy moment on the show comes from the least likely source, imho, Abby. When Jeff calls her and tells her he's taken Olivia and Brian, and her wobbly, moaning,"Noooooooooo, " oh my.

In "Rise and Fall," a crowd would have gathered at the base of that downtown building, chanting "Jump! Jump!"

I would have been working the crowd, selling T-shirts.
