In loving memory of Ingrid Bergman, who was born and died on Aug 29th (1915-1982)
Gone too soon but what a legacy
My second fav actress and one of the most stunning women in my lifetime
a very down to earth star and a real trail blazer in the 1950s when the scandal hit that she was having a child out of wedlock.
Even in death she had a star quality and a radiance and light that shone through

Great tribute to Ingrid Bergman as usual on her birthday. :)

I really do hope that you'll make it to Stockholm some day. I think you would like it. It's a beautiful city and yes there's Ingrid Bergman sightseeing and also ABBA the Museum for you to enjoy.

Thanks BF. They actually mentioned Ingrid Bergman on the New Year's countdown on TV last night. They said it was 75 years since Casablanca came out and had someone sing the love theme from the movie! :)

I think it's cool how she's left her mark both in Sweden and in Hollywood...

I found this on Hollywood Boulevard:

and this one in the Madame Tussauds wax museum...

We almost didn't go to Madame Tussauds either. But it was included in our hop on hop off bus ticket so we figured why not?
I was pleasantly surprised by the place as they had a huge collection of classic movie star wax dolls and I just loved it. :)

I'm looking forward to when you're coming to Sweden. :hugs:

    yay for over 65s

She is so like her mum

As Isabella Rossellini returns to Lancôme at 65, 'grey advertising' continues to boom

FOR 14 years Italian actress Isabella Rossellini had been the face of Lancôme but in 1996 at the age of just 43 she was fired for being too old. And there her story might have ended, yet another celebrated beauty brought low by the march of time.

Remarkably, however, she was lured back to the company by new general manager Françoise Lehmann and this week the French skincare and cosmetics brand unveiled a campaign featuring its 65-year-old comeback girl.

"I was just so surprised!" recalls Rossellini of the phone call she never expected to receive.

"I said, 'I haven't got any younger.' " But as soon as Lehmann, 53, pulled up to their initial meeting on a motorbike, shook her hand and admitted that her former colleagues had "made a mistake" the daughter of film star Ingrid Bergman knew that things had changed.

"I thought, 'My God, this is a revolution!' Before I used to deal with 60-year-old men who were paternalistic and condescending.

"I asked her, 'Why me? You are digging up an old story.' But Françoise said, 'We made a mistake. I want that story to be rewritten.' "

In fact the reinstatement of Rossellini is rather more than the correction of an oversight. Her return represents nothing less than a renaissance in the fortunes of older women that is symptomatic of a wider change that is transforming the advertising industry.

For Rossellini's campaign is only one of many that signal a breakthrough in attitudes towards ageing.

In 2014 69-year-old actress Charlotte Rampling became the face of Nars Lipstick. At about the same time French cosmetics giant L'Oreal hired Jane Fonda, then 75.

Three years later it added 69-year-old Dame Helen Mirren to its stable.

And the beauty business is not the only sector to have been converted to the benefits of grey power. Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo hired Thelma And Louise star Susan Sarandon at the age of 64 as long ago as 2011.

Meanwhile supermodel Christie Brinkley, 64, has made a second career from so-called "grey advertising" and was modelling bikinis for Sports Illustrated as recently as last September.

So what is going on? "Until now, the marketing world has been very slow to adapt to reality, which is the fact that society is getting older and rapidly so," says Kevin Lavary, director of Owl Marketing.

"This short-sightedness meant that advertising was still being focused on the 18 to 35-year-olds even though there are fewer of them and they have less disposable income."

Infact it is the wealthy post-war baby-boomer generation who have most to spend as well as being the larger demographic.

"The bottom line is that 46 to 64-year-olds buy more cars, more beauty products and they go on more top-end holidays," says Lavary, author of The Definitive Guide To Grey Marketing.

"It's taken the Mirrens and the Fondas of this world to show that actually older people in advertising is a reflection of reality."

For decades advertising has been aimed at the coveted 18 to 49 demographic. But today 35 per cent of the population is aged over 50 and in a few years 30 per cent will be aged over 65

Mark Beasley, chairman of the Mature Marketing Association, says that women over 50 already account for more than 50 per cent of money spent on buying cosmetics.

"What it means to be an 'older woman' has changed," says Beasley. "We are all staying active and healthy longer."

Until recently just five per cent of worldwide advertising budgets were geared towards consumers over the age of 40 due to the advertising industry's obsession with youth. But PR expert Mark Borkowski says this approach has backfired badly for beauty and fashion brands.

"A lot of the brands including big hitters like Unilever recently started following the 'power influencers' - the 20something bloggers and Instagramers," he says.

"But the campaigns these have spawned have often been an outright failure. These flashin-the-pans promote lifestyles without leading to sales."

And now advertisers are realising the error of their ways. "Advertisers are following the money as well as the political tide," says Borkowski. "Women of a certain age have been ignored before but that is no longer the case. Increasingly people are looking to the baby-boomer icons and feeling their influence."

Mark Beasley says Dove "wrote the book" on this subject more than 10 years ago with its groundbreaking Campaign For Natural Beauty, which used women of all sizes and ages.

Since then a campaign for French fashion house Céline has used 80-year-old author Joan Didion, Yves Saint-Laurent signed up 71-year-old singer Joni Mitchell and there have been numerous campaigns for products from cars to jewellery featuring 93-year-old style legend Iris Apfel.

Beasley concludes: "The youth-obsessed world of fashion and beauty are accepting - even embracing - women of a certain age... as long as they continue to be beautiful of course."

After standing as one of Lancôme's longtime leading ladies, Isabella Rossellini is here to reclaim her spot—and this time with a purpose. As one of the most iconic faces behind the beauty brand, the Italian beauty is returning to her coveted ambassador position at the age of 65, proving once again that beauty is ageless.

Rossellini first signed with the brand in 1982 at the age of 30, which at the time made her the world's highest paid model, only to end her tenure at 43, explaining to The Cut that, “They told me they needed somebody younger. The advertising was aspirational, and even though they have clients of many ages, the desire was for youth."

But a decade later, the actress resigned her contract in 2015, at the age of 63, with limited campaign exposure, saying, "Things change. They tell me my name comes up in their market research still. And now I’m new again! There are very few 64-year-olds — I turn 64 in June — representing a cosmetic company.” Now, two years later, Rossellini is officially back in full campaign mode, taking to Instagram earlier today to share her upcoming, untouched campaigns images shot by the legendary Peter Lindbergh for brand's Rénergie Multi-Glow collection, sharing that, "I am glad that after 25 years I am featuring in a @lancomeofficial campaign again—shot by the one and only @therealpeterlindbergh".

With the new campaign, Rossellini joins the ranks of other over 50-years-old women currently dominating beauty industry including Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren and Maye Musk, who all proudly display their age with grace in their own beauty campaigns.

Yep the baby boomers got the money. So I can see why the advertising industry has finally woken up.

Still I like the fact that older women are suddenly being valued. Women and men should be valued equally regardless of their age.
