Very good point, as usual, by Seaviewer.
Howard Keel playing Clayton Farlow was a great casting coup at the time.
I doubt there was much intention to pair Clayton off with Ellie whilst Jim Davis was still playing Jock.
It was only after Jim Davis's unfortunate death that the Producers considered such an idea. I still believe that getting Howard Keel on the programme was one of the best casting decisions the Producers of Dallas ever did.
Howard Keel was already on the show, in a minor role, just when Barbara Bel Geddes needed a new leading man. So it worked out. After all, who else were they going to pair her with? Harv Smithfield? Peter Richards? Raoul?
Jordan Lee would've been quite the choice. A potential merger of Lee & Ewing Ohhhhhhl. Plus, he'd be the only stud in Dallas to bed both Kristin and Miss Ellie.
I would have paired her up with Cliff. Imagine J.R.'s face.
I would have her hook up with Dusty. Maybe the real cause of Dusty's impotence was that he could only get it up for older women, especially Miss Ellie. Could you imagine Sue Ellen and JR's reaction if Dusty dumped Sue Ellen in order to date Miss Ellie?
