I suspect this is a security measure introduced by Amazon to prove the parcel/s were delivered. A quick snap by the driver incorporates the date and time of delivery. If anything goes awry the photo proves it was delivered.

Delivered??? It only proves that at one particular time the parcel was there. Heck, even the courier himself could take 'em back.
Without a recipient being able to receive the parcel (not necessarily the addressee) it's not a delivery in the technical sense of the word.
With the exception of parcels that fit through the letterbox, of course.

One of my friends fashioned a version of a "drop box" out of a deck box (typically used to hold pool supplies) on his porch. He leaves an unlocked combination lock on the lid, with a note asking the delivery guy to place the package/s in the deck box, then click the lock on it. The deck box is drilled into the wooden floor, so if someone wants to steal the deck box they will have quite a challenge.

There might very well be a market for clever, young designers who can retro-fit homes with drop boxes or large 'depositories' for packages to keep the Porch Pirates at bay.

Now I'm wondering if I could buy a photo of my front porch on Amazon? I've always wanted one.

Oh, they post it for you, free of charge. Alexa Echo may demand a fee, oddly, but she's a whore.

Amazon photographed mine just moments ago, as I was opening the inner door, so part of my body appeared in the picture they were sending me a photo of. A photo of a 2 foot high box, which contains a pocket wallet pressie for someone. I arranged for my family to be away, so I could have 1kg of stuffed goose by myself.

How funny! Last month I found the Google Earth van (with antennas, cameras and all) parked in my street too, not far away from my "mansion". Miss Piggy came out to pose as soon as I told her...

This is all likely to cause a backlash, since lots of folks must complaining about their porches winding up on the World Wide Web. Of course, I also keep waiting for a class action suit to force Photobucket to behave honorably.

I saw the Google Maps van (with the disco ball on top) winding through my neighborhood back in May. They must have been driving around pretty slowly, because there are images of my car parked outside my apartment AND parked outside where I work. Unless the cellar-dwellers at Google are actually stalking me for some reason....:hide:

Maybe it´s a CIA plot to get rid of all the "Dallas" fans around the world. Because, remember, we caused so much havoc when TNT Dallas was cancelled...
